NEW YORK JETS TURKEY DAY FOOTBALL

It has been confirmed. The Jets have accepted the NFL's offer and WILL be hosting a game on Thanksgiving Day.

According to Gary Myers of NY Daily News, the NFL will make the official announcement on Monday at the league meetings in Orlando. They will also name the opponent for that game and the opponent for the MNF opener on Sept. 13.

The game is slated to kickoff at 8:20 PM. That gives us plenty of time to get lubricated, Jets fans! We will avenge that awful '07 showing  in Dallas.

If this is the case, the Pats will be playing the Lions.

Detroit traditionally plays the early game on Thanksgiving at home, and the schedule will require our game with them to be on the road. So we’ll be against someone else.

NE has a Thanksgiving Day game this year also? Didn’t know that.

Good point about Detroit, they always have the 12:30 game.

It has to do with tv. CBS and FOX alternate calling the Cowboys and the Lions Thanksgiving games each year. This year CBS has the Lions. CBS can only do games with an AFC road team, and the Jets and Pats are the only two AFC teams scheduled to play at Detroit this year. If it’s not the Jets, it has to be the Pats.

So we won’t be on NFL network?

Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.

Unfortunately, I think that means we WILL be on NFL Network.

It’s usually Fox… then CBS…. then 8:20 game is on NFL Network.

(although this year looks like it will be CBS then FOX, then NFL Network, but same end result for us)

I really hate the NFL Network. It might as well be PPV for me.

Yeah, I don’t think I want to go to a bar on Thanksgiving just to watch the game but I may have to.

If you live in the New York area, league rules dictate the game must be simulcast over a broadcast channel since a local team is playing.

It is within a certain amount of miles and I am like maybe 10 too far away.

I dont like this.

As fun as it is to watch football on thanksgiving, I would rather it not be my team playing the game. The short week is rough. I know both teams have to deal with the same circumstances, but it might end up hurting us more because we are a physical, grind it out football team. Giving guys like shonn greene, LT, david harris, kris jenkins, and others a few extra days of recovery in a week is huge. I’m hoping we have a bye in the previous week.

agreed and rec'd

there’s good and bad. also depends on the schedule. Hopefully the turkey day game is against a weaker opponent (don’t we play the Browns this year lol) and the following game 10 days later is against a tougher opponent or division rival (Pats/fins).

Actually an advantage in my book. Thanksgiving is a short week for our opponent too.

The next week, the other team won’t have 10 days to prepare like us, though.
