The Jets perspective on LT... The real deal
I am so sick and tired of people misinterpreting this move. 1st off Shonn Grenne replaced TJ late last season so it makes no sense to say why would the jets cut TJ just to sign LT, and then compare yardage. LT will not be replacing TJ he will be replacing Grenne as the backup and Grenne will be replacing TJ as the starter.
And the reason the jets did not match Kansas City offer is becuase one or any combo of the following reason(s) they view LT as a more versatile #2 than TJ(catching the ball), They believe TJ needs many touches to be effective, they believe TJ was not producing well towards the end of the season and also TJ might not have been to keen to relinquishing his number 1 job to the rook.
All in all, LT is not replacing TJ, GRENNE is. LT is not get the 300+ carries TJ got during his tenure GRENNE is. LT is replacing GREENE as the #2 and GRENNE is replacing TJ as the #1. Jets like LT more as a backup than TJ and i agree becuase he is more versatile where TJ needs many touches to be effective.

Regardless of who he’s to replace its a major decline in production. If Greene wears down or gets hurt, LD just isnt good enough to carry the load. And why would we use LD on passing downs, when we have a much more dynamic option in Leon.
If they move Leon, then the move makes sense. But if Leon remains, having LD is useless. If we need to run, give to Greene. If we need to pass, toss it to Leon. If Greene gets hurt early and severly, kiss this season good-bye.
there is no guarentee how good leon wil be and TJ is not good without touches his last four games all under 20 touches averages of 2.9 2.3 2.9 and 2.6 all games with under 20 touches he averages no more than 3, he is not as effective without many touches Therefore not suited as #2
Its funny how people dont see this and think that the jets and Mike T are so delusional that they would give up on TJ just to sign someone else to more money.
Be rational and think like an insider we are not the raiders we make good choices find out why this happen and justify the organization decision. The reason is because TJ is not better than greene therefore he would be the number 2 but he is not that effective without touches as evident in our last four games.
We would of pick up that KC contract if Shotty and our Brass thought he could be effective obviously they believe he cant and i agree from what i saw as him as a number 2
Now can you please using numbers suggest why he could be successful as a number two for I have argue why he could not.
Also there is no certainity of how he would feel being the number 2 after his status within the org. LT has stated that role is fine with him
Also you dont bank on a player getting injured so therefore you dont weigh that as heavily
LT with the jets line may not be as good as TJ with the jets line as the STARTER. but that is not a for sure. what yu do know is TJ is not effective with limited carries and that would be his role bearing injury

just a pet peeve of mine
And it’s pretty rampant on this site. It’s “I/we would HAVE” not ‘would of’. Just think about it for a second and you’ll see what I mean.
Go Jets
Go Devils
Seriously? Kind of smallish, don’t you think? It wasn’t really confusing the way he used it. His points are all good. Thats a silly thing to pick at.
Well, you didn't capitalize the 'J' in "just", and you shouldn't start a sentence with "And".
Lol. All I ask for is a little bit of punctuation, periods and commas, and at least some idea of how to spell. I can’t stand reading a whole paragraph in lower case letters (or Caps lock) with no punctuation and a bunch of shit spelled wrong, it literally is hard to read and makes my eyes heard.
Would have/Would of seems silly to me, as long at it is readable/understandable and there is an effort to use punctuation it’s okay with me.

Haha! The irony!

Im no TJ fan. I wanted him gone. But your confusing correlation with causation. TJ, and our running game in general, got stronger as games wore on. For the most part we didn’t get our running game really rolling until the second half of most games. This was due to our o-line wearing down the opposition. TJ didn’t need touches to get going, its just that there were bigger gains to be had in the second half. TJ’s production declined at the end of last year for two reasons: 1) injury; 2) the emergence of Greene. So at the end of the season TJ’s numbers declined because he knicked up his knee and bc Greene began taking over the 2nd halfs of games.
LD has been rapidly declining over the last 4 yrs. Although I was not a proponent for bringing TJ back, I am totally against replacing him (or Greene, however you look at it) with a worse option.
Also, you bank on a player getting injured when in his brief tenure with the team, on limited touches, his season was marred by injury. His style of running further exacerbates the odds of him getting injured. And if you don’t bank on his injury, why acquire LD at all. Shonn is a much better runner and Leon is a much better receiver.
While i don’t know what LD’s production will be. I do know it won’t be good. He hasn’t been good in years.
Saying that he is a better receiver than LT is a little over the top crack. Maybe more explosive but there is no way his hands or route running are better Also in the games where TJ has less than 20 carries his carries are evenly split throughout all quarters and nothing suggest that his 4th Quarter yardage was greater than his production earlier in said games.
Another point is that the games Grenne played in he is equally affected late in the game as he is early on evident by his touchdown scamper vs the bengals in the first quarter to tie the game.
I do not think the running game gets better as the quarters go on, I believe the blocking is just as good. Jones seems to get better during the game while Greene is consistent throughout. Hence Jones needed many touches to be effective.
Releasing Jones then signing LT means one or three things, either management believes jones is done, or they believe he cannot be effective without many touches or that jones refuses to be number 2.

Crackback I will post this for the second time
2008 1,536 yards & 13 TD’S 2007 19,490 yards & 18 TD’S so 2 out of the last 3 years he put up numbers T Jones could never EVER do. Please tell me how he has been bad for years? Also if you are not happy with getting LT fine but back up your reasons with facts.
Those are legit reasons, all in all I believe LT as a backup will be more effective than TJ. We agree to disagree time will tell.

Crackback your always against LT for no reason he well do alot better then everyone thinks and all your doing is down talking him for no reason because he had one bad year last year. He well be perfectly fine with the jets he has something to prove and he wants a ring bad and I think you’re underestimating him completely. With are O-line he well excel and make everyone who doubted him change there opinion very soon you well see.
I have one a very good reason… he sucks. The team has already committed to giving him a lot of touches. He hasn’t been asked to take a lesser roll. He’s going to steal carries from a better runner in Greene, and catches from a better receiver in Leon. He’s shot, and has been steadily declining for years.
O-line has absolutely nothing to do with YAC stats, and his dropped off a cliff last year. Its irrefutable proof that he’s shot. And the Raiders and Chiefs and Broncos aren’t in our division, so there won’t be any weak defenses for him to pad his stats with 2x a year.
There's no way
Leon is a better receiver then LT is. Maybe more explosive after the catch, but in no way is a better route runner or has better hands. I still think Leon is gone anyway.

And while we don't have the Chiefs and Broncos and Raiders,
we do have the Dolphins and Bills, both who have no run defense, and NE’s run defense isn’t really very scary either. Darren Sproles averaged 3.6 yards rushing, and he is the equivalent of Leon, if not better. I’m confident that LT’s bad year, like TJ’s good one, was a product of the offensive line. Also, the O-Line does effect YAC, it’s a lot harder to get YAC when the ‘C’ is coming at the line of scrimmage, from a linebacker or lineman, then it is to get yards after contact with a guy in the secondary, with your momentum going in the right direction.

Got the YAC stat off of Yahoo, where its listed in the “Receiving” column, so I assumed the “C” was for “Catch” which seems to make sense. An avg of 7-9 yards after contact is pretty amazing.
And i think this stat speaks directly to his ability to beat people one-on-one (out-run, out-maneuver, or break tackles). It shows his ability to operate in space. These are catches made in the flat, or on short routes for the most part, so the o-line isn’t in play. If these numbers are rapidly declining it speaks volumes to the type of player we’re getting.
Yeah,
yards after catch you’re right, thought you were talking about contact.
