Sharper wants to be a Jet.

There is an opening at free safety in New York following the Jets’ decision to trade Kerry Rhodes(notes) to the Cardinals for two draft picks, and free-agent Darren Sharper(notes) said he’s interested in filling the void. Sharper, who became an unrestricted free agent March 5, has yet to visit with any team as he’s recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, but he told PFW correspondent Mike Triplett, who covers the Saints for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, that he knows he would be a good fit with the Jets. The 34-year-old did not say whether the Jets have shown interest in him; he appears to be interested in speaking with any team that he deems a good fit, so the Jets are just one of several potential landing spots for Sharper. New York’s Eric Smith(notes) sits atop the depth chart at free safety for now, but the Jets are expected to bring in competition for him through free agency or the draft.

If you remember he caught that int for a touchdown that helped the Saints beat the Jets. He had an amazing season for the Saints and was considered a locker room leader. He would be a good signing just for the experience and energy he brings to a team. I know that we have Pool and Smith there now but I think that Sharper would be great for a one year contract.

Yeah I wrote a comment about that too Crack.

Mustve forgot to hit enter. We don’t have a vacancy at FS, and while I guess Pool, Leonhard and Sharper all could be utilized, I just don’t see it.

I think this was written prior to the Pool signing, it makes no mention of Pool. Assuming Pool starts, we have plenty of depth. Wouldn’t even consider Sharper unless he wants to play under a 1 yr contract at salary equal/lesser than Pool’s.

Sharper will pretty much open it to most teams because that’s the best bargaining chip you can have, to be in play for numbers organizations. Why would we sign Sharper, We have Pool now, to go with Leonhard, Smith and Digs. Add to that we probably draft a new safety, and Lowery could do a job there. We have 5 safeties going in already and 6 if you think we will draft one which I think we will. No to Sharper, would be a pointless waste of using one of the only UFA slots we will be able to use this season.

NO! we already signed Pool who is a good safety, no reason to pay Sharper lots of cash when there is no need for him.

Pretty sure we cant sign any free agents, and we did sign Brodney Pool, but he could be used in Nickel/Dime packages
