Minnesota or New York for LT?
Don Banks has some great points here about where LT should go, and give the advantage to the Jets!

Good article, shows exactly what we have planned for LT while he is visiting, and liked this quote:
“We want this guy, and when we want a player, we typically go get the player,’’ the Jets source said.

Not to be that guy.. but..
LT was a Linebacker for the Giants. He earned the nickname first. Tomlinson also deserves a nickname, but his own.
I guess He would be an alright backup for Greene. I really wish Washington could somehow prove he is good to play, because i would rather have Greene and Leon than Greene and Tomlinson.
He is a guarantee: Tomlinson WILL have better number than last year if he ends up on the Jets. The reason won’t necessarily be in the fact that he is playing better, it is just the the Jets Offensive line can make anyone look good

Lol LT is not really a nickname.
It is just initials. It isn’t as if it involved some team of experts creating a nickname. I have a bunch of friends who get called “AB”, or “JR”, it is just his initials. If it was a more creative nickname, it would be one thing, but what did we expect, to have the initials LT retired from the world forever? Nobody with a last name starting with “T” can name their kid anything starting with “L”? It isn’t really initials, just a nick name, and it is much easier then spelling out Ladanian Tomlinson everytime.

yeah, and it’s not like he’s a hack player. The guy is a Hall of Famer, just like Lawrence Taylor is. There’s no insult to Taylor when you refer to LaDanian as LT as well.
Dumped Edgar Renteria and adopted Buster Posey. Biggest upgrade since George Jefferson moved up to a deluxe apartment on the east side!
I hear you but when you’re talking about HOF football players the list really shrinks. So in this specific circumstance LD should back off before he gets Theimanded. ; )
I agree with you but where does this hatred for LD come from?
by chrebetsthebet on Mar 12, 2010 3:58 PM EST up reply actions
I never liked him. Always thought he was an over-rated compiler benefitting from feasting on a weak division. But right now i just think he’s worthless. There’s at least 5 backs in the draft that i prefer by a large margin. If Leon leaves, then im not opposed. But i loathe the idea of going with Greene, LD and Leon as our tandem for the season. I don’t trust any of them to be healthy.
nitpick much lol
I know that is his initials and it isn’t like I am writing my congressman to let him know of this travesty. All I am saying is I don’t refer to him as LT and when someone mentions LT I first think of Taylor.
If they shell out more money to LD than they offered to TJ im gonna have my first WTF moment of the off-season. If we roll with Greene, LD and Leon as our backfield I will be truely baffled. Greene and LD can’t stay healthy, and Leon can’t get healthy. Its like their designing the running game to fail. This move doesn’t help the team win.
For once I disagree with you. San Diego’s line was not anywhere near as good as the Jets. Secondly as far as Jones go, he didn’t seem to ever read blocks all that well and he could never really make anyone miss in the open field. Tomlinson can still do that and he thrived in Schotty’s offense. I don’t mean to beat a dead horse here but he is one of the best RB receivers in the game right now. We didn’t see too many screens last year because 1.) Sanchez was a rookie but also 2.) Greene and Jones weren’t great pass catching running backs. Tomlinson brings all of that to table. The guy is just as good a leader and character guy as TJ was. I think bringing LD on board might be a move that, when we look back on the year, we can point to as putting us over the hump.
by chrebetsthebet on Mar 12, 2010 3:24 PM EST up reply actions
Your dead wrong about Jones’ ability to read blocks. Thats how a guy who lacks speed and can’t break tackles is able to produce. We didnt see too many screens 1) yes TJ and SG have brick hands; and 2) Leon was out. If healthy, Leon is every bit as good a receiver as LD. I dont mind acquiring him so much if we get a 2nd round pick for Leon. But if we keep Leon, LD makes no sense.
We will see but would you rather have LD or draft a RB?

I got to be honest, I’m on the LT bandwagon, I want to see the man in a Jets uniform, I think he can do a job. Hoping we get this sorted.

Me to.
I thought this was a good idea as soon as the season ended. I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they see LT play. I also don’t know why so many people keep bringing up money. LT hasn’t signed yet, we don’t know if/when he will sign or how much he will make, and this is an uncapped year, so why do people keep comparing Thomas Jones salary to what LT might make?
They obviously feel like LT, willing to accept a backup role, is better then bringing Jones back to do that same job. I agree, I don’t know why money is an issue here.

I think it’s just because of what Jones was able to do last year and thinking that if we are going to give out $$$‘s it should be to the guy that produced instead of having a 3.3, Not saying that’s what I think, but I think that may be it.
I like the leadership, not only in the backfield but in the clubhouse, a little veteran presence, and hell, he might be able to teach Greene a thing or two about receiving out the backfield.

I agree, and he was a good blocker.
Just such a good player for so long, with so much to prove, coming to a great situation. I think LT will make sure he is in tip top shape, knowing this could be the end and wanting to show people that he indeed wasn’t finished. I always like to grab a great veteran at the end of his career who still wants that championship.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

Dave, don't
you think that if LT and TJ switched situations last year, it would be LT a lot closer to the 1400 and TJ a lot closer to the 800. I really think the Jets offensive line played such a big role in Jones success it really can’t even be put into words. While Jones was good, he probably had the easiest road to 1400 yards that anybody has had in a really, really long time. Our O-Line is just dominant.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."
- CRASH DAVIS
I think it could well be the case, but I just think Jones and our line complimented each other so well, a lot of the production was down to Jones and a lot of it was down to the offensive line. It’s hard to speculate, but in my opinion LT is not as bad as a lot of people make him out to be and I think he will flourish in this system of zone blocking and pass catching out the backfield with good blocking out in front and out wide by the receivers. I also think that TJ is a lot better than a lot of people give him credit for.
I won’t say a bad word about TJ, I love the guy, but he’s gone, and that’s that. LT would just be a good signing IMO

This
TJ would be much more productive with limited carries. If money wasnt the issue, and we’re drafting another back, then they should’ve just paid the man. Guys were already grumbling over losing TJ. Now we would be getting a 3rd down guy when we already have a 3rd down guy.
TJ would be much more productive with limited carries.
I don’t know. How many games did Jones have 26 rushes for 80 yards, only to break a 42 yard TD run late? Jones style this year was nothing, nothing, nothing, big one. With limited carries he may never bust that big one. Honestly, I would prefer LT over TJ in almost any capacity this year. Contrary to last years numbers, I just think he is a better football player, plain and simple. Perhaps not better, but I think he brings more to us right now then Jones.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

Besides crackback are we sure we want LD for the RIGHT reasons. We as Jet fans are pretty spoiled so I wonder if most of us, myself included, want LD just so we can make another splash?
by chrebetsthebet on Mar 12, 2010 4:23 PM EST up reply actions
The Jets decision to offer Tomlinson more money than they offered Jones is indeed a baffling one. I’m guessing they feel that Jones’ great year was because of the offensive line more than Jones’ abilities. They’ve obviously watched a ton of film on both players before coming to this conclusion, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Dumped Edgar Renteria and adopted Buster Posey. Biggest upgrade since George Jefferson moved up to a deluxe apartment on the east side!
Yeah but LD’s propensity to get injured should scare the Jets into giving him a contract that would be similar to Jones, a player that never really got injured.
by chrebetsthebet on Mar 12, 2010 4:24 PM EST up reply actions
I would think they wouldn’t be worried about which player is more likely to get injured, since we’re talking about a backup role here. Durability would be more of a concern if they were considering a starting role with 25 carries a game.
Dumped Edgar Renteria and adopted Buster Posey. Biggest upgrade since George Jefferson moved up to a deluxe apartment on the east side!
Thats true but also consider the propensity for Greene to get hurt, which is high. He got hurt in the preseason and then again in the championship game. That was in a somewhat limited role. Now you have Greene with an expanded role with a backup who is also injury prone and not to mention a RB coming off of a major leg injury. You think a solid commodity like Jones would have been retained.
by chrebetsthebet on Mar 12, 2010 4:54 PM EST up reply actions
Which makes you wonder why they didn’t. The Jets didn’t even offer to match the deal. And thats with this teams locker room voicing it’s displeasure with NOT retaining him. TJ wasn’t an option for this team for a long time. They knew they wouldn’t have him back as soon as they released him. TJ either demanded his release or this team saw something physically in him that made the jets want to dump him.

Do you think it’s gonna happen? I don’t think so. I really think he wants to play for the Vikings. The only reason I see him joining the Jets is a chance to get back at the Chargers for releasing him but that’s it.
As far as players wives go, remember Antoine Winfield had agreed to join the Jets a few years back then he got back home and his wife talked him into joining, none other, than the Vikings. Smells like deja vu!

I think he will be a Jet when all is said and done. Who’s playing QB for the Vikings next year, is it Favre, LT is a big name , he will get the chance to be part of the team that opens the brand new stadium, be back in the big lights of the media circus in NY. I don’t think he signs before he leaves, but I think in the end he will be a Jet.

Dam it, I have a life you know
can’t be checking in on here and espn on a Friday night. Ok I will be back in a few to check up on updates.
Those posts that are painting LT as injury prone are laughable. He has missed PARTS of 3 playoff games and 3 seasons games in 9 years. In 2005 he played with broken ribs. He has tried to play with knee and groin injuries. You don’t become a HOF back and mentioned as one of the al time greats if you are injury prone.

No. Seems like every time i tuned for an important game he was riding a bike. Either you can go or you can’t. And i know it in my bones that at some point during the season Greene is going to miss extended time, and we will have to rely on LD to do the heavy lifting until he gets back. I just don’t trust LD to be up to snuff if needed. Especially in the playoffs.
Alot of things have to happen before we would have to rely solely on LT2. At this moment we still have Leon who is said to be ahead of schedual with rehab. But im not even gonna count him cause of his tender. Greene would have to be seriously injured to miss any major time. And the Coaching staff seems to be really high on Chauncey Washinton as well. Plus im still assuming that one of our draft picks could very well be dedicated to another RB Like Blount in the later rounds. Im sure that the depth at the RB position will be plenty by preseason. Im not worried at all. LT can only help this team. Not hurt it.
by colinyoung on Mar 12, 2010 7:32 PM EST up reply actions
Either you can go or you can’t.
Exactly, and sometimes you just can’t. Would it have been better for him to Brett Favre his team into a loss because he was playing hurt when he should have been? Would that have made him more manly or courageous? A better team player? It was awesome of Favre to play with a bum shoulder, to the point where he singlehandedly cost us a playoff spot, but hey, at least he toughed it out.
I almost always agree with you, but the guy has missed like 1 or 2 games in his whole career. If you don’t want him because you think he is done, fine, then just say you think he is done and you don’t want him. That is a good enough reason. You don’t have to reach for things that aren’t there, start calling one of the best rushers in the history of the NFL an injury prone pussy, just because you don’t want him to sign here. Nobody is going to buy that.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

We can pull the injury in almost any position on the team. If Sanchez goes down, the teams done. We dont have a decent backup for Mangold. If we loose Revis, gooe QBs will pick us apart. Their are alot of positions on this team that are one injury from ending our chances. RB isn’t one of them.

I agree with you most of time, yes. And i respect your opinions as much as anyones. But in this case we definitely don’t see eye-to-eye. Its not personal or anything, i just strongly disagree.
If you suit up and can ride a bike then you can play, or at least give it a go. If you can’t play, then get out of your pads and root for your squad on the side-line.
And I don’t care how many games the guy has actually missed. He’s always dinged up with a hammy or a groin or somethng thats slowing him down. ALWAYS.
No i don’t want him, your 100% right. He is an injury-prone pussy who’s no better than TJ at this point in his career. Neither guy can break tackles or make guys miss anymore. And i could care less about who buys it.

It seems to be a running theme. You don’t usually hear so many big name FA’s speak so highly of the Jets and their Coach. Players really want to play for him. And in a completly different way from the sucess that the Patriots had with FA’s. This team hasn’t won anything and has a rookie QB leading them. But top FA’s are beating down our door to play here. Its good to be a Jet fan these days. I feel like I have finally exercised my Glenn Foley and Jonnie Johnson Demons. lol
