Jets Reach Agreement With Brodney Pool

Adam Schefter confirmed moments ago:

Not just LT news in NY: Jets reached agreement on a one-year, $1.3 million deal with former Browns S Brodney Pool.

One year deal, low risk, very high reward. You all know that I really wanted this guy, and now we have him. Absolutely delighted with this.

I still think we draft a safety, but it shouldn't be early. Brodney is a physical guy who can cover as well, there are certainly concerns with his health, but overall I think this is a very good signing by Mike T and Jets fans who are speaking against him now will soon come to love him.

Nice. Can’t beat $1.3M. Im pretty psyched about this myself. I don’t know about you guys, but it smells like something good is cookin. Startin to smell like a Superbowl to me.

Amen my man.

One year deal was a perfect one, no long term commitment due to injuries, but we have a very solid player here for $1.3 million. Your not getting a better bargain than that IMO.

Lol.

My stomach just dropped as i told myself, “Wow we have no holes to fill, except for running back.” I realized that LD was coming in tomorrow. : (

lol I just quickly saw someone say that Mort tweeted that LD wasn’t taking his visit with the Jets, but everyone else seems to be suggesting he will.

Sweet. Lol i was actually trying to rationalize his signing with us, and i’d be ok with it if Leon got picked up by another team and we added another bruiser. I just can’t see our backfield being Greene, Leon, LD.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

How about Greene/Gerhart and LD ;-)

Im totally fine fine with that. Lol. Thats a pretty damn nice backfield there. Then draft Hughes with the first pick. LD could mentor a rookie back and a rookie from his alma mater, and play big brother to Cro. I would actually be all for that.

We’d just take him in the 2nd with the Leon compensation pick. Im catching a whiff of that really good scent again.

Excellent news. Cheaper than dirt (by football standards). Hopefully we get him one of those extra cushioned helmets and he keeps his head away from those hits.

by random122 on Mar 11, 2010 8:38 PM EST reply actions

I wonder if we will look into those helmets. Sure we will do everything we can, he was passed fit February after his end of season concussion incident.

New Helmet rules are comin soon. I hear teams will incure fines from the league if players are still wearin the old Riddels. After a grace period of a few seasons to let teams update fully. The ones with the round earhole are at least 3-4 years old, out-dated and not safe. If the Semi-Pro league I play in has tuffer rules on helmets then the NFL. You know theres a problem.

by colinyoung on Mar 11, 2010 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

I’m sure we will give him the helmet with the most secure protection. 16/15/11 that’s the amount of games he has played the last three years. I’m not as concerned as some are with his concussion problem.

This guys interception production has increased every year

the last 4 years, from 1, to 2, to 3, to 4. He is learning his craft, and he has come to Rex to master it. Unlike Kerry, who was regressing when Rex got here, and fought Rex every step of the way, because he somehow thought he was above it all.

I think Brodney will really flourish here, especially as everything I have read indicates that he has a good commitment/work ethic. End of the day it’s extremely low risk to get him on a one year contract.

For a few days i thought Mr.T lost it and traded away a solid saftey for next to nothing…then i saw just how smart of a move that was, there was an adequate number of good guys that were not tendered to step in and take kerry’s role. All Mr.T did was get us another pick this draft, dish out a disgruntled player and get pool who’s numbers look to be pretty good and has potential to thrive in this system.

by flixenuz on Mar 11, 2010 8:44 PM EST reply actions

Had exactly the same reaction, at first was not liking the move, but then when Kerry gave that interview, could see why it was made. Picked up a draft pick in a deep draft, and now gotten a safety who has a lot of upside for $1.3. Shame on me for losing faith in Mike.

If we have a good draft, pick up a couple more decent depth players. He’s in consideration.

They listed Mike T as on the rise on ESPN earlier today.

Sweet.

I keep forgetting that Rex’s brother runs the Browns D. No way he would’ve been signed if they were concerned about his play. I feel even more confident now.

Side Note: LaGarrette Blount blew off his pro day.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

I’m sure they talked a fair bit the old brothers. I know a few Browns fans who were a little annoyed that they didn’t tender him anything. Good fit for us.

Revis/Pool/Leonard/Cromartie

I like that idea. Myron Rolle would make sense. Give him some time to get his sea legs back. Would like it even more if Chad Jones slipped to the 4th.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

Rolle

Not sure on this one.. was he really good a couple years ago in college but decided not to enter the draft, he went to school instead? was he a potential 1st rounder back then? if so i think getting him in the 4th would be a good pick, i guess you cant lose all of your talent by misssing a year of football.

by TheSanchize6 on Mar 11, 2010 10:28 PM EST up reply actions

Yep. Same guy. He was a Rhodes Scholar and studied in Oxford for a year. I think he has aspirations of being a brain surgeon. The knock on him is that some doubt his commitment to football, with all of his post-NFL career options he may not take football too seriously.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 10:31 PM EST up reply actions

You would think he would be too clever to not take football seriously ;-) plenty of health risks. I think people are really looking for reasons why he won’t succeed, but he seems genuine for his love for the game. I think it would be a smart pick-up for us, no pun intended.

Rolle is definatly good for a 4th. Not gonna hold my breath on Jones but Darrell Stuckey could fall into our hands. Maybe even go the CB/FS route with Akwasi Owusu-Ansah..

by Thatgnss on Mar 11, 2010 11:21 PM EST up reply actions

Good shout on Ansah…people worry about pedigree coming from II, but similar to Danieal Manning in that regard. Excellent return man as well, think he returned 5 for TD I was reading in 2009.. Where will he go though, I have him in late 3rd….maybe dropping to the 4th.
