LaDanian Tomlinson

LT is visiting witht he Jets tomorrow if no deal gets done today in Minny (according to Schefter). I would say bring in Tomlinson. Maybe he can do better with the best O-line in the NFL. Thomas Jones had a ridiculous year in 2009, I think mostly because of the holes opened up by the O-line. Lets see if Jones does that agian with KC's line. We also do not know if Greene can take a full workload nor can he catch out of the backfield. Leon may get snatched away from us and his leg is a question mark. Tomlinson has already said he would accept the role as a 3rd down back. He says he can catch, run routes, and block, so i guess he would make for a great 3rd down RB. Tomlinson's legs would also be fresher not taking as many snaps and rushes.

i would love him signing with us. such a great person, on and off the field

Honestly, who cares if he’s a good person if he can’t play? My neighbor’s a nice guy too, but i don’t think that that would make him a good RB. LD is shot. When was the last time he broke a tackle?

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

personally i think he has a lot of play left in him. the poor chargers o-line didnt give him much of a chance as well as the new pass-happy chargers pass offense. I would take him any day to supplement leon and shonne

Nothing imminent, he left Minnesota and told SI that he is taking his visit with the Jets.

All of you guys are trying to convince yourselves that it was the bad O-line out in San Diego that made him look bad. That if he runs behind our o-line some kind of magic is going to happen and the LD of 2006 will re-emerge. Just not going to happen. He’s lost 2 steps and he could never stay healthy. He’s soft, weak, and slow. Stop hoping that what you saw from the guy the last 2 years isn’t true. That he will somehow be rejuvinated here in NY. NY is the home of the real LT. LD has no place here. We generally don’t take to softies.

LD is dead. Let him rest in peace.

didnt mean to come off saying he will be himself of 2006. i think he would be a good compliment to greene and maybe leon.

I was just ranting Sanchize. Sorry bout that. Wasnt directed at you, but just a sentiment ive been picking up on that i wanted to respond to.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

I gotta agree with Crack. From a team standpoint im not sure LD’s worth the price of admission. His legs are shot and he’s an injury risk. I would rather a draft pick to fill the 3rd spot.
However. I can see how tempting LD can be from an owners standpoint. Just having the guy on the team could earn the business major dividends. That new stadium has a lot of seats in it.
If I were a coach I would say pass. If I were an owner. I would take the chance on him being productive and sell the guys jersey by the MILLIONS.

Generally don't take softies?

Cromartie is the definition of soft.
Yes, LT lost his twitch. He can’t go from zero to sixty in a flash anymore. But he can still catch and block and he managed to score 12 TDs last year. He’d be a very capable 3rd down back. What most people don’t know about LT is that he only missed 2 games in 9 years. The guy always played hurt. He just happened to get hurt for two playoff games in two years and that’s where his rep comes from. You can’t be an effective NFL running back with a badly sprained MCL or with a detached groin muscle. He deferred to Michael Turner and Darren Sproles, knowing they were very capable (and healthy) options. If that isn’t being a team player, I don’t know what is. But yes, he’s lost a step. That’s obvious. But put him in the game on goal line situations or on third down and you’ll get some decent production.

A healthy Leon is quicker, faster and has better hands. And for goal line I much prefer our 230 wrecking ball. LD always seems to have some excuse for this or that. In crunch time, he seems to be a no show. Would seems to be a running theme in San Diego: play soft and choke when it counts the most. If LD was so capable he’s still be a Charger.

As for Cro, he’s a corner. Comparing CBs and RBs is apples to oranges. See, here in NY rather than get on Cro for pulling up on a 230 pd monster in the hole, we’d be much more upset about our DLs and LBs getting blown five yards off the ball, and our safety getting steam-rolled. Corners are for covering.

by Crackback on Mar 12, 2010 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

Weddle had a shot and got rocked...

Ever since Cro cracked his hip, he’s been afraid of contact. He started 2008 blasting people (in a self described attempt at being more physical, like Jammer). It was going great until he cracked his hp. Since then, he’s been the corner that you say in the playoffs. When he decides to play physically, it’s impressive. The guy is 6’3". But it seems like he still has the injury in the back of head… or maybe he just doesn’t care.
As for LTs playoff career, it’s not the picture that most people make it out to be. Against New England, LT had 120 yards rushing, 60 yards receiving, and 2 TDs. Against the #1 defense of the Titans, he jumped the pile for a TD to seal the game. Against Indy, he has a 5.0 YPC average and 1 TD playing in just the first quarter with a blown knee. Sure, he’s had a few bad games but what do you expect in the playoffs? Every team from 2001-2008 has tried to take away LT first and foremost. You play good defenses in the playoffs. Sometimes good teams can take away your best offensive player. In 2009, opposing defenses didn’t have take out LT because Norv Turner was committed to doing it for them… Either way, he doesn’t have his quickness anymore. After he separated his groin muscle, he just hasn’t had the same burst but the guy can still block and catch… and maybe even throw a TD or two.

I don't think he's going to end up a Jet

unless it’s for a ridiculously small amount of money.

I would LOVE for him to be here…what I don’t get is why he left Minn. with a jersey in his hand…

Haven't been able to watch the Devils on TV since 2008

Yea im hearing mixed things… heard Schefter say ‘there is nothing going on’ between LT and Minny, but i also saw on PFT that Jim Trotter said LT ‘really liked’ what he heard from Minny.

Don't make a big deal of the jersey.

The Vikings really want him, so they give him a jersey and of course he’s going to take it. After all, they’re negotiating and it would be impolite. It’s not like they give him a jersey so he’ll go off and practice already.

Just heard on Sportsnite on SNY that the reason that the Jets didnt match TJ’s KC offer was so that they could go after LD.

by Crackback on Mar 11, 2010 10:28 PM EST reply actions

guess that means the Jets would rather spend 5mil on LT than TJ. That is if LT is willing to take that kind of money. Maybe he wants more..?

Will leave with this, taken from the AFC East ESPN blog:

So I reached out for Williamson’s take on Tomlinson, who left the Minnesota Vikings complex without a contract Thursday night and is scheduled to meet with the Jets on Friday.

Here is Williamson’s take:

"I am not an L.T. believer. I have been saying now for over a year that I think he is done. Is he a better pass-catching option than Leon Washington? No, and I no longer think it is even close. Is L.T. a better goal-line, short-yardage runner than Shonn Greene? Perhaps, and I do think L.T. still does this very well. But it’s not like Greene isn’t capable of being quite good in this capacity.

“So where does that leave Tomlinson? As a spot player who might get five or so touches per game and doesn’t do a thing to help you on special teams? That isn’t enough for me. Sure, one of the top two running backs could go down, and L.T.’s role would increase, but in that capacity, I still would have much rather had Thomas Jones over Tomlinson.”

No more than anybody else. But when was the last time an old RB was deemed shot, and cut by his team, and then came back to prove everybody wrong? Has that ever happened?

by Crackback on Mar 12, 2010 2:12 AM EST up reply actions

The Colts didnt think Faulk was old and shot. They traded him and grabbed Edge. It wasn’t like Faulk was having years for the Colts like he was for the Rams when they traded him either. Wasn’t a bad move.

by Crackback on Mar 12, 2010 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

I just don't think he is shot.

If you do, that’s your opinion and we will agree to disagree, but I think he has gas left. No, maybe the red light has turned on saying the tank is almost empty, but I think he has enough for one final push, one last surge to try to get where he wants to go. I think LT has at least as much as Jones left, but he will be filling a much smaller role when/if he gets here. He also seemed to fall off a bit when Norv Turner took of for Schotty. Norv is an air it out guy, Marty just gave the rock to LT and focused on moving the ball that way.
