Trade Jenkins?
I know what the response to this question is going to be, but please hear me out.
Kris Jenkins has proven to be one of the best nose tackles in the NFL and should have plenty of trade value considering that some defenses (ie: Bills) are turning to the 3-4, he also has missed a lot of games with injuries. I think that trading him in order to get enough value to trade up to get some one like Nebraska's Suh or OU's McCoy would be the best option. Maybe even just trade him to the Raiders for Asomugha.
The defense proved that it can play without him and adding someone that is younger or at least healthier would be better. Not to mention what adding Asomugha would mean for the defense overall. Finding a way to get this team better is a given, trading someone that hardly contributed on the field is the way to go. I know what he can do but I also know what we can do without him. But in order to get that line younger and healthier the jets definetly have to trade him.

In all seriousness
i thought about it to when the whole Asomugha story was blown out of proportion and i was thinking scenarios, but in all reality, Jenkins is perhaps the best nose tackle in the game and has been for the past 5 years. While now i do feel what Pouha had done for us this season and i think he filled in very well, he still was not able to destroy offensive lines like Big Kris can. A constant double team on Kris means being able to either a.) rush the QB better(as we saw with the first game against N.E and Houston) or b.) drop more into coverage and still hurry the QB. That being said it is a invaluable asset to having someone like this on your team.
I say don’t trade him unless he gets injured again this year or shows signs of wear and tear.Hopefully neither!
If we can get a player for equal value, or a 1st plus additional picks, i’m all for trading him. Kris is a great great player but he’s too injury prone to be counted upon for a full season..
That's why I think we should move him to DE this year.
It is a similar position, only he will have less pressure on his knees, and his big body in general. I think he can pretty much stifle the run to whatever side he plays on. He probably will get more pressure too. Kind of like moving a CF to a corner when he is getting a bit older, or moving the SS to 2B.

I’m not sure what the Jets gave up for him. I think it was a 3rd rounder but do you honestly think the Raiders would trade Asomugha straight up for Jenkins? If a crazed Al Davis wouldn’t do that. To move up to the first pick overall to draft Suh would require this year’s first plus next year’s first round pick just to get them to listen. When Jenkins is healthy(which has been very little the past 2 seasons)he is probably the best NT in the game. But what worries not only our GM but other GM’s is his weight. He has always had a problem maintaining his weight and that is why he is so injury prone. So no way you would get anything higher than a 4th rounder for Jenkins.
All over the fan blogs there is a positive ton of discussion about trades. i think people are way too influenced by baseball, and possibly by Madden as well. However, in fact trades are not so easy to pull off, and I think in a lot of cases they’re people’s pipe dreams – managing to pull off some sort of steal, unload expendable players and pick up a sensation. Not so realistic.
As for Kris, he’s coming off practically an entire season of inactivity. Who knows what condition he’ll be in at training camp time. That means a lot of people will see him as an uncertain quantity, which means the likelihood of somebody giving up a top-notch player for him is not so high. The front offices are not as stupid as we fans make them out to be.
I don’t really agree with the thinking that because the Jets’ defense played well without Jenkins, it’s a good idea to trade him. He’s one of the top two players on the unit. With him in there, the defense will be even tougher.

a simple, pocket approach
nmandi is not coming to ny. crazy Al will never let that happen.
end of that discussion.
and did you see what had been happening in the rush to us all year long?
not a horrible D. but to say KJ is expendable is an irresponsible statement.
he is older, and we got him for a steal, and no one will give us what you guys are talking about for him. it has already been mentioned that the New GMs/Czar’s that teams are bringing in are designed to prevent exactly some of the outrageous trades you’re all talking about/have happened in the past several years. I would also recommend and prefer that we have a deep draft this year, with our assigned picks. i am glas we got shonn and mark last year, but we need a 7-9 player draft badly. i would say if anything trade out of the 1st round into the second and 3rd to get some of the amazing talent that is being predicted to fall into those repective brackets. couple that with some responsible use of what should be an interesting free agency, and we’ll have the same amazing team, with an incredible tune-up. the idea of trading to the high first round again, or trading conerstones like KJ, is just ludicrous. there’s nothing about this team that i saw last year that indicates we should make any stride towards wholesale changes. as bad as everyone wants the “pipe dream deal” we need to be intelligible.
Go JETS!!!
You'd have to float a pretty amazing name for me to take that trade
I’d take Jenkins at either Tackle or End over most any day.
I’m not sure the teeth you’d be taking out of the defensive line is anywhere near worth whatever player or compensation you’d get. Although it’s always great to come out ahead before a player gets too old.
We do have the pieces
How about golston? Davis would love him. I think that Jenkins, Golston and Strickland could be enough to land Asomugha. By the way his salary would not be too high, with Golston’s gone we can afford him not to mention that Ellis could possibly be cut and/or renegotiated. There is another possibility coming up and that is if Adalius Thomas comes to the Jets. We could build from there and it would definetly allow us to push Ellis out. The team was great but we need to think about the future also and the the D line is our greatest need right now. We need a line that can push into the pocket to make the blitzes more effective, Ellis, Pouha and company cant do it.

I don't agree with cutting Ellis
The team’s best pass rusher – I think you’re too quick to view individual players as expendable.
Yeah. I don't think Mousie understand the way the 3-4 system works.
All I hear is how we need a 3-4 pass rushing DE. Yeah, those don’t really exist. Seymour and Ngata are two of the best, and they don’t really ever get sacks or pressure. Once in a while they do, but they are they to stop the run and to take up space. That’s it.

What are you talking about?
I never said get a pass rushing end, all I am saying is that we need a line that pushes up so the blitz can be more effective. That is how the 3-4 works the line occupy the O-line and the linebackers attack. I think you dont know what you talk about period. Please keep your comments to yourself if you dont read what you are commenting about.

Yes, so why would you cut Ellis
to bring in Adalius Thomas? Definitely sounds like you understand the 3-4. Cut a solid 3-4 DE to bring in a former OLB/MLB.
Allow us to push Ellis out? Yep. Sounds like you definitely know what you are talking about.
Trade Jenkins for Nnamdi, sign Adalius Thomas and cut Shawn Ellis. Sick plan.

I guess you still think you know something
I guess I said cut the linemen get rid of them all, we dont need no stinking line. I said draft them, I said get rid of one of them, I was proposing scenarios, the speculative talk that happens before free agancy and the draft. But I guess that you live in another planet, where people just talk out of their butts. Who cares what I say? I can say cut all the QB’s and lets just run the ball. But then you’ll probably shoot me or burn a cross in my front lawn.
By the way doing what you just said is not a bad idea, but then again you probably think that cutting a player means we can not replace him. Oh dont cut Ellis there are no other DE’s in the planet left.

Cutting Ellis is retarted
You would easily run the team into the ground if you were GM

It seems that is the consensus
I think that everyone here would. I never said just get rid of him, if you actually read my comment you would see that I said build from there, as in get other players in. Getting rid of one player as good as Ellis without replacement is so idiotic to even think about it. Once again people please read before commenting. Dont just blab whatever.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken
We have the best defense in the nfl with or without Jenkins. Leave the defense the way it is except draft a cornerback to cover a team’s third option or play opposite Revis
Having a Jenkins /Pouha revolving door at DT
Keeps them both fresh and keeps the pressure on the opposing running game even more. Trading him would be stupid IMO. You’re not getting a top 5 draft pick nor the CB from OAK. Keep the dude and have sick line depth.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
