Another season?
It’s been two seasons, and no one has really seen Gholston develop into the player he was hoped to be. I don’t know what his contractual picture is, and maybe there are no better options right now.
But I can’t feel overly optimistic given his last two seasons. I didn’t expect him to fully mature right away, but by now you’d like to see some glimmer of hope beyond initial potential.
You gotta respect Rex in terms of player development in a player like Gholston, and the Jets have agreed to give him another year. But I think all of us would agree that Tannenbaum should keep his eyes on any available talent at that position in the event season three is a bust.
Look for talent anyway
If Ryan thinks Gholston is worth that money, let him prove it against some competition. If he turns out not to be, new guy or guys win a roster spot.
Personally I would have cut Gholston two months ago.
