Travis LaBoy: Pursue or No?
The Jets had free agent outside linebacker Travis LaBoy in for a visit. The 28 year old spent the first 4 years of his career playing defensive end in Tennessee's 4-3 defense. He moved to outside linebacker in the 3-4 after signing with Arizona in 2008. The Cardinals released him after that season. LaBoy had torn biceps. He needed surgery. He sat out the entire 2009 season.
LaBoy would be purely a pass rusher. He was never strong against the run playing end. He would still be learning some of the finer points of 3-4 outside linebacker, something of a liability in coverage. He has 23.5 sacks in 5 seasons including more than 6 twice. He's got a good burst off the line and an array of moves along with an excellent motor.
This would not be a big impact move. LaBoy is a specialist who would add depth. He'd be a good addition for obvious passing downs getting after the quarterback. It's a quiet move that could pay dividends. This team is going to be restricted in the offseason. LaBoy will come cheap given the injury that cost him a season. I wanted the Jets to go after him 2 years ago. I'd be happy to see him in green and white next year.
I vote pursue.

Gholston never real played that position
Except when Calvin Pace was suspended. Gholston is paid as a top linebacker and sucks too hard to even get on the field.
I don't know how the Jets can afford him.
The Jets have to wait,
I understand LaBoy might wait for us.
The Jets have to sign someone of equal or lesser value of another teammate signed by another team.
I don’t see Izzo getting more money than LaBoy or any other of the Jets UFAs…
A trade could bring him to NY, and then a re-sign, but,
maybe that’s happening now, since, he did have a workout.
Hmm.
The Jets have to sign someone of equal or lesser value of another teammate signed by another team.
No, they don’t. LaBoy was released by Arizona, which means the final eight restrictions do not apply.

Thanks for clarification.
Oh that’s awesome.
Then fully pursue!
Thank you,
I didn’t know he was released. :D
If nothing is stopping him, and Rex likes him,
Go Get him.
Combine this with trading the draft for Asomugha
aaaaaand we’re set for next year ;)
I see no reason not to take a chance on LaBoy, he has shown his ability in pass rush situations, and he was being highly touted a few years ago. Bring him in for a physical, check his health, but I would say it makes perfect sense to bring him in

Yes sir.
I like it.
He looks situational.
However, Ryan does dial up situational calls. He calls to the players.
If his injury didn’t take a hit on his physical ability.
I’m waiting for the report.
