Roster News: Emanuel Cook Signed, Laveranues Coles Released
You saw it in Flight Connections, but the Jets signed safety Emanuel Cook today and again released Laveranues Coles.
The 5-foot-10, 224-pound former South Carolina standout played for the Hartford Colonials this season.
He has previous stints with the Jets and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cook signed with the Jets after going undrafted last year.
Two years ago, Cook recorded 97 tackles and one interception for the Gamecocks. He was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection three years ago when he led the team with 92 tackles and intercepted four passes and recorded four sacks.
They had to make a move to add a safety for depth with Jim Leonhard done and James Ihedigbo hurt. Part of me wishes the team kept Coles' locker room presence instead of a guy with limited upside like Patrick Turner? I also think I'd want Coles on the field in an emergency situation.
Am I just being sentimental?

Disagree on Turner
Maybe he’s better suited for the PS but I like having someone that size for Revis and Cromartie to practice on. When they play guys like Megatron or these huge TEs, it can only help.

I like turner over coles.. blah blah blah he’s young (tall), he has a good college pedigree (tall) and he has higher upside than coles (tall).
I believe Coles left us for more money
We wanted him but could not pay him what he wanted. I have no loyalty to him.
I feel bad
Weall know is business and no one knows this more than Coles but damn is this the 4th time we’ve released him? Are we trying to set a record?
I think if he had anything left in the tank
they already would have put him on the field. They’re even chalking up signing him to motivation. When I first heard he could come back to NY this season I lit up, imagining the presence of Holmes, Edwards, Keller and Cotchery causing the aged receiver to be wide open all the time and finish out his career in glory.
Instead something much more common and less spectacular happened. He wasn’t the same clutch receiver Vinny and Chad had relied upon every third down.
It’s too bad, but I’m thinking Turner has more upside, and business is exactly that as usual.

What No one is saying is...
Why in the world do we have 4 tight ends on the roster?
Mathew Mulligan, Jeff Cumberland, Dustin Keller, Ben Hartsock
Technically speaking we also have 5 QBs (Only 3 are on active roster)
Sanchez, Brunell, Clemens, Ainge (reserve/did not report), O’Connell (IR)
Big Tannenbaum…What are you doing?
