Being a Jets fan in New England at 17 years old.
Well, that was upsetting huh?
Hi, I'm Spencer. I'm a 17 year old senior in high school.. in Rhode Island, just 45 minutes outside of Foxborough. I grew up in New York.. lived there until I was about 13. I grew up a Jets and Mets fan. I consider myself a diehard. I wore my Jets jersey today to school and got picked on, like every other time I show my colors. This performance was especially heartbreaking.. every year the Jets get our hopes up and then break our hearts. However, this year I feel something different.. I feel like this was just a roadblock and we are going to overcome it. Maybe not this year, but soon. The Jets time is now. I don't care how much I get picked on, or how many fights I get into.. every day this week I will be wearing a different article of Jet gear to school and all of those Patriot fans can suck it. I don't boast, I don't brag.. but I will never sacrifice my pride because of a loss. I will wear my Jets jersey tomorrow, the next day, the next day, and the next day.. and I will wear it with pride, more pride than I have ever felt being a Jets fan than ever before. Tonight was heartbreaking, but take it from a New England Jets fan, there are no fans like us. ANYWHERE.
Thank you.

Thank you for this thread
and being such a great fan.
Unfortunately you need that kind of determination and patience to be a Jets fan.

That's awesome
Keep the faith, kid. And take heart – when I was 17, the Jets coach was Bruce Coslet and the Jets were on their way to an 8-8 season. You’re in much better shape at 17 than I was!

You Rule!
I am Mets fan too living in in hostile territory in ATL. Actually the Braves fans here are very lame. Keep the faith. My 10 year old son wanted one of the new sideline hoodies for his b-day, $85 bucks-damn!
He wears it everywhere….I had to talk him down this morning before school. He was on the verge of tears…damn me for bringing him into this thing.
Worse off my 1 year old is named Jett…at least he is still too young to take the abuse!
Keep repping the Jets with class —providence needs it.
Hand it to you for sticking with your team
Being a Lions fan even in the state of Michigan isn’t easy anymore. Just hope your coach would stop boasting about his subpar team
The beginning of the end of the misery
Subpar?
If the Jets are subpar then somewhat needs to tell me what par is? It seems like 9-3 is a bit better than average?
9-3 against mediocre to bad teams (ye that includes the Lions)
Is a subpar team to me. Teams like ATL and the Patriots have proven that they are good teams that can win against anyone…not just the bad ones
The beginning of the end of the misery
Win against anyone, huh? NE’s 2 losses were to the Jets and CLEVELAND. Jets beat Cleveland and their 3 losses have been to NE, Baltimore (by 1), and Green Bay (but held them to without a TD), the latter both 8-4. combined record of their losses, 26-10 (.722 – not a whole lot away from their own .750). NE’s combined record: 14-10, .583, quite a bit less than their own .833.
One bad game does not a season kill, nor the corollary, one great game does not a season make.

No, but 3 or 4 either way can define a season.
Jets struggled to get over Denver, Cleveland and Detroit. Lost badly to NE, GB, Baltimore and Miami in very poor showings. Patriots demolished Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit, the Jets and Chicago, and struggled to beat Indy and Baltimore, and lost poorly to Cleveland. Inferences can be drawn from these results – Sanchez plays well, Jets win. Brady plays well – Patriots kill the opposition. The difference in QB means when Brady is mediocre, it’s still comparable to Sanchez’ good.

I’ll give you the lost badly to NE. GB was 9-0, didn’t give up a TD. That’s not losing badly. Baltimore was 10-9. That the BEST you can lose, by one point, hardly losing badly. 10-6 isn’t losing badly either. It makes a difference when you get way down in the tiebreakers, but by and large, it’s how many you lose, not how you lose them.

"bad" losses arent only measured by the score
but also by how it looked on the field. The two “close” losses, the Jets looked pretty bad, almost like polar oppsites to when you guys win. I find it really sad that “Sanchize” can’t succeed in an offense that has a superbowl MVP as his wideout, a league MVP and a great young back as his RBs, a pretty talented TE in Keller, and of course a very good Jets oline.
Personally, I don’t get why all the success of the offense for the Jets completely relies on “sanchize”. We haven’t had a running game in Detroit for most of the season (our RB is averaging 3 yards a carry), but we still put up points (with our 3rd string QB now). Why don’t the Jets just do what the 2000 Ravens did. Pound the ball with LT and Shonne Greene, play clock control, and let that defense win games?

What I meant
Was that there was very poor play from the Jets, mostly on the offense, in those losses.

okay thank you
for confirming how smart you are…that makes total sense. Leave Michigan soon—your are experiencing a brain freeze and have lost all ability to HAVE A CLUE.
lol
We’ll see just how your Jets get….the way the AFC is looking. It might be a struggle to make the wild card

You ARE kidding, right? Only if you’re 6-6 or 7-5 right now. Making the wild card will likely be as easy as beating Buffalo. Enough of the other contenders are playing each other that any help the Jets MIGHT need if that is their only win will happen. Beating Buffalo doesn’t seem to be too much of a struggle this year (unless you’re Detroit or Cincinnati). Wait, Buffalo lost to Miami by 5, Baltimore, KC, Chicago and Pittsburgh by 3. 5 of their 9 losses have been by less than a TD. Heh, maybe it IS a struggle to beat Buffalo (sic). Oh, wait once more, the Jets beat them by 24. You’re going to say “but that was at home” well the Pats beat the Bills by only 8 at home.

Lololol
Well I wore my jets sweatpants, slippers, hat, hoodie, and J-Co Jersey today and the looks on those patriot fan faces were priceless. None of them would ever dare wear a Brady jersey after a loss like that. But we’re resilient. We’re New Yorkers. We’re JETS!

great read
Spencer, keep that great attitude up and don’t let the Pats fans get you down. I’m living in Boston now for school and I wore my JETS gear last night to packed bar at Davis Square, among 3 other fans in green, and I’m still alive, still breathing, and still proud. Taking that from Pats fans only builds character and self-confidence. At least the New Englanders don’t spit on my Jets gear like they do my Yankee gear, but that’s another story.
I was at the game yesterday.
I filmed some of the choice comments that pats fans had to say to my group. It was kind of upsetting at the time, but I watched them this morn and have to admit, they made me laugh. The language is nsfw, but I’m going to try and edit and post it today or tomorrow.
Way to be a true fan!
Not only do I love the Jets but the Mets as well. My entire school is flooded with Giants fans and Yankees fans. They are SO arrogant. But me and my fellow Jet/Met fans have stayed strong through the tough times. One day, one of these teams will win it all and I will be the happiest kid ever!
I went to school up in Boston during their third Super Bowl so I know how you feel. Hang tough, man.

I love Boston..
Just not these front-running Patriots fans up here! I know I’m still young but from what I’ve already gathered.. the second they lose they throw in the towel and don’t follow the Patriots.. I went to the over-time victory at Gilette when Brett Favre was the QB and even though it was only 21-28 Jets in the fourth quarter, 3/4’s of the fans left the stadium.. and thing is Cassel and the Pats sent it into over-time!! I really don’t mind the Patriots themselves. Obviously I don’t “like” them because I am a Jets fan, but it’s their fans that kill me. Not all of them, but a majority of them are front-runners. They always throw the.. how many superbowls have the jets won in your face.. but if I remember correctly the patriots weren’t a dynasty until this decade and had no real fan base until they started winning.. they couldn’t even fill a stadium. At least Jets fans have real HEART.

Hey kid way to rep. Thanks for being a true fan in enemy territory. Trust me I know how hard that is.

Way to be
Im in Connecticut, but being 15 and having your friends piss you off just because they love to see the Jets lose sucks bad. I know how you feel. Im not as hardcore as you though; I only wore a jets sweatshirt.
Totally
I’m a freshman Jet fan growing up in a burb of San Francisco. Not only is it diehard Niners Nation, Tom Brady grew up in San Mateo (which is the next town over) and Trent Edwards went to my high school (yes, former Buffalo Bills starting QB). So there’s a lot of animosity against the Jets around here. I know it’s not exactly enemy territory, but I get what you’re going through. Keep your head up—I admire you for wearing your colors like that. Eventually it’ll pay off—we’ll whip the Patriots in Foxboro and you can supply green + white tissues to all your sobbing friends. GO JETS!!!
I know you're too young for this to be relative
But a measure of reverse revenge for you. I was in a bar, in Boston, around the corner from Fenway, with a couple co-workers, wearing a Mets shirt or cap, I don’t remember which (another wearing the opposite), when the ball went through Buckner’s legs in 1986. Not much was said to us afterward. You can’t imagine how good that felt. If we had been able to get tickets for less than a couple body parts, we would have been IN Fenway.

You my boy, are a pioneer.
You’re like Ponce de Leon or Christopher Columbus. Your bravery cannot be understated. You go plant that Jets flag in the ground and claim Rhode Island as JETS COUNTRY!!!
