Pathetic

I'm not really sure what else there is to say about this game. The Jets went out and embarrassed themselves on national television tonight. New England now leads the AFC East with just a quarter of the season to play. This team looked like it was coached by Rich Kotite.

One game. The Jets are still 9-3 with a chance to win the division. They're in the driver's seat for a Playoff spot. Let's not go overboard.

Vent below but keep it relatively clean. The official recap will be up later.

This is all that is needed in the recap.

we sucked on o, on D, and didn’t play good special teams
need safety help, review on the NFL rules and not burn challenges in the first quarter, and also never go on hard knocks again ever, as entertaining as it was.

Ah who am I kidding we just got beat by the best QB in the NFL. Tip my hat to Brady but I still dislike the Patriots

I went on Yahoo! and used their Playoff Simulator

We are practically a shoo-in for the playoffs as long as we don’t lose to the Bills in the finale.
However, we would most likely get the number 3 seed – face the Chiefs at Arrowhead, and IF WE WIN – face the Patriots again.

But he is probably the LEAST important factor in our losing tonight.

Agreed, unless he missed 15 more field goal attempts then I saw.

We might as well just go for field goals in the red zone on third downs with the way we’ve been playing. Give Folk 2 chances down there.

he wasn't an important factor at all.

I think the close games were great for us.

I think you gain much more experience than in blowouts. There’s no BCS here, blowouts don’t count… except in your soul… it hurts.

by elyankee on Dec 6, 2010 11:43 PM EST up reply actions

Explain to me how...

if we won those games, anything about them hurt us? Sanchez has late game swagger now. I’d take those 5 games over the Pats soulless blowouts any day of the week. Sans this one, of course

by elyankee on Dec 6, 2010 11:45 PM EST up reply actions

if we won those games, anything about them hurt us?

How????

By developing bad in game habits which against GOOD teams produce lopsided losses. How did Sanchez’s swagger go today? His head was out of the game by the second series. He couldn’t even complete a 5 yard pass.

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:48 PM EST up reply actions

I dont' think our run of games

had anything to do with this loss. Maybe I’m alone here, but I think Belichick would have dialed up this beat down either way. tight games build confidence, they don’t lead to what we saw out there.

by elyankee on Dec 6, 2010 11:50 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, the Jets have been playing great for the last month!

How they have been playing against average teams has nothing to do with how they played a against a very good team. Right.

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

My point is...

That playing 4 close games that Sanchez won will help more long term than a 20 point blowout would have. The only thing that would have contributed to was higher standings in Michael King’s Power Rankings, which I don’t care about.

I would not have traded the OT games for more secure wins.

Your comment on “Bad habits” was the most cogent point you made. I think it’s a valid point, but I’d value late game experience more, and bad habits did not cause the result we saw tonight. They maybe added 10 points to the deficit

by elyankee on Dec 6, 2010 11:56 PM EST up reply actions

I agree.

I don’t mind the close games in the sense that it helped Sanchez more than anyone. We’re fine.

I would have loved to win this game more than anyone but you have a young QB and a head coach that still lacks experience as a head coach. His biggest asset, his trust and confidence in his men, also hurts him sometimes.

I’m certainly not gonna cry that the sky is falling.

by cult hero on Dec 6, 2010 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

I'm trying to imagine

the way that “How” with four question marks sounded coming out of your mouth.

by elyankee on Dec 6, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

No, playoff teams win by controling games and eliminating variables.

Average teams win by spur of the moment miracles plays when they should have never been in those situations in the first place.

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:43 PM EST up reply actions

There is no team that controls every game

Even the 07 Pats went 18-1.

The good teams find ways to win.

by Branta on Dec 6, 2010 11:44 PM EST up reply actions

72 Dolphins had

A 4th quarter comeback vs the Vikings who finished 7-7
A tight game against the Bills who were 2-3 going in and finished 4-9-1
Their 2nd game vs the Jets was also back and forth, and the Jets were 7-7

Its only a few games, but they weren’t always dominant. They found ways to win, too.

by Branta on Dec 6, 2010 11:53 PM EST up reply actions

Who says "control every game", the very good teams

control the most number of variables in the most number of situations in the most number of games. Playing close games against bad teams is the sign of an average to bad team.

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:45 PM EST up reply actions

There is no easy win in the NFL

Ask the Pats that, especially after their loss to the Browns.

The Jets have a great football team and great coaching, it just didn’t happen for them tonight. They won those other games. Playing close games doesn’t make a team bad by any stretch.

by Branta on Dec 6, 2010 11:47 PM EST up reply actions

The Jets have a great football team and great coaching, it just didn’t happen for them tonight.

GREAT????

Given extra time they got SERIOUSLY out coached and out played. In fact the looked worse than the last time they played a very good team, the Ravens.

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:49 PM EST up reply actions

The last time they played a very good team

Was the Packers, actually. And there’s no point even bothering to discuss anything with you because you make nothing but claims, no substance.

by Branta on Dec 6, 2010 11:51 PM EST up reply actions

Very good is subjective

Week 2 vs the Patriots they looked great, the following week they were even better against 2-0 Miami.

This isn’t the BCS. They don’t award style points. The goal is to get to the Super Bowl, and to get to the Super Bowl you have to win, not win pretty, just win.

by Branta on Dec 6, 2010 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

The Pats were KILLING the Jets in week 2

And then decided to stop spreading the ball around due to Revis’ injury.

It isn’t the BCS, but teams develop habits.

Tell me, How did you think the Jets played in the biggest game of the year?

by ________key on Dec 6, 2010 11:56 PM EST up reply actions

Although Brady was still using more dink-and-dunk and creating mismatches than deep passes. He took Troy Polamalu and every other safety out of the game by attacking underneath routes since Moss has been gone. Leonhard would’ve likely not screwed up on the PI penalty, though.

so why the hell was brady throwing to such a washed up piece of garbage constantly

unless he’s got the brain of a pinata. regardless of moss or not he shouldnt throw to a covered receiver. if welker was covered moss open and he constantly threw to welker would you be complaining this endlessly and saying that welker is bad and thats the reason brady threw it. the pats also had better rushing today is that due to moss as well. there defense played better today is that due to moss as well. so why is brady playing better ONLY DUE TO MOSS’ ABSENCE. he just had a much better gm today. it happens

that

doesnt answ why you cant simply say maybe he played better today. sanchez played worse today than in wk 2. are we blaming some weird force for that? the way you make it sound its impossible to have a poor gm unless someone other than the qb or good def is involved. btw, why did brady only decide in the 2nd half of that gm to pass like that. did someone hit him in the head w/ a club at halftime or something. acc to you he shouldve been throwing to moss all gm so why was he mysteriously competent in the 1st hlaf alone. one word: adjustments. tonight the pats adjusted from first gm and guess what? sanchez had a bad gm

so why the hell was brady throwing to such a washed up piece of garbage constantly

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT’S WHY WE TRADED HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!

if welker was covered moss open and he constantly threw to welker would you be complaining this endlessly and saying that welker is bad and thats the reason brady threw it.

I think Welker was open quite a bit in the second half. Ninja would remember better than me. But IF he was covered, and brady kept forcing it to him, and moss was open, then gee, ya, I would be complaining.

Would I say he sucks? Well if he was traded to another team, and gave the same amount of production moss gave with us(more dropped balls then catches, brady keeps throwing it to him, etc.), then yeah, he sucks.

In the same instance, Moss sucks now.

the pats also had better rushing today is that due to moss as well. there defense played better today is that due to moss as well. so why is brady playing better ONLY DUE TO MOSS’ ABSENCE. he just had a much better gm today. it happens

The pats run it more with moss gone, yes.

The defense was younger and more inexperienced before. Has nothing to do with moss.

Why is brady playing? Well gee, he IS NOT FORCING IT TO ANYBODY THAT IS COVERED, and RESULTING IN INCOMPLETIONS AND INTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you stooping THAT low, as to say “I this due to moss, and is THAT due to moss?”

You are being very pathetic now. I’m sorry. You have no argument at all, and you are re-hashing comments that I already made points on.

well at least this answd my pts i'll give you that

w/ the last pt i was merely pointing out that there are other poss explanations to brady playing better tonight than just moss. it does frustrate me that pats fans wont givean inch of credit for that gm. same as you seemed to be upset w/ me above when you guys thought i was giving no credit to the pats tonight. its a combo of both things. in first gm jets made good adjustments, brady made poor decisions (they were poor decisions even if moss was in fact 07 vintage. if a receiver is covered you dont throw it to him) and sanchez had good 2nd hald and thus jes won

Brady's been almost perfect in the last month

And it just seems to be the post-Moss offence really gelling well.

In the meantime, the two teams who have had Moss since the Pats are 1-7 with Moss.

true

favre/young/collins aint exactly tom brady though. look i’m not trying to say the pats doing better now has nothing to do w/ moss i believe it has a heck of a lot to do w/ him just looking for a tad of respect from the 1st gm. of course jets completely reversed the process tonight

this makes no sense.

Moss was not performing at all with us and our new offense. Brady forced it to him when it was unneeded.

Solution: trade moss.

Result: Better offense, and better production.

Evidence: 6 games since the bye week, the pats have been VERY efficient w/o Moss: Ravens, Chargers, Steelers, Colts, Lions, Jets

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

Brady played better because he doesn’t have moss. It wasn;t just this game. look at detroit, pittsburgh, ravens, chargers. He played better without him, than with him for more than JUST this game. 5 games of evidence.

That’s all I am saying. The pats, and Brady, are better off without him.

It's partly to do with him being not-2007-vintage-Moss

Old Moss would’ve eaten up double- and triple-coverage and still made catches and TDs. 2010-Moss failed, and gave up picks.

by dabu7 on Dec 7, 2010 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

you are right. not from moss, but from brady.

brady threw it to moss, because he is… well randy moss. In that way, moss was the problem.

He was dropping mostly everything, and brady was forcing it to him, when he is well covered. That poses a problem in terms of wins and offensive production.

i'll give example

when jets payed the lions, revis had megatron on his island. meanwhileburleson torched jets b/c drew coleman stunk. had stafford repeatedly thrown to johnson it wouldve been bad even though johnson is a great receiver and i’m sure he wants the ball plenty. lions almost beat the jets due to that. so even w/ the pats offense structured around moss he should still pass to the open guy. moss syndrome didnt seem to bother him too much in 1st half. welker played well and hernandez had 80 yds. and then apparently brady had a mosss epiphany

The Miami game (a 41-14 beatdown, and really the first convincing Patriots win) had Brady only target Moss once – a fake-spike End Zone pass that Moss promptly dropped.

The Pats owned that game, and they did it by not targeting Moss. Moss was furious and yelled at the OC at half-time. Beginning of the end?

Moss doesn’t fit the west coast style offense(which is what we basically run now).

Moss has DROPPED more than CAUGHT in his 3-4 games with us, and ever since we traded him away, he STILL SUCKS!!!

So how the hell would we perform BETTER without him? We have had BETTER offensive production and more CONTROL over the ball EVER SINCE he left us!

You only look at 2007. HE IS NOT MOSS OF 2007!!!!

Have you seen Moss's stats this season?

They’re ugly.

More to the point, Welker/Branch are a mismatch for the Jets CBs. They’re both small and nippy, so they’re hard to cover (just look at Branch’s TD, that’s all quick-cuts and jagging).

Moss has one move – flat-out pace. He just runs and leaps. Cromartie can cover that; Cromartie can’t cover Welker or Branch.

You don’t win super bowls preparing for and playing a game like that.

It’s no less ridiculous that you negate a win over the same team than him chalking it up to a bad day.

I don’t negate the first win. It was a good win against a team that opened the door. But the Pats were not anywhere near as good a team then as they are now.

And the Pats showed that. They dominated, that is completely dominated the Jets who get slapped around in every phase o the game. They could even stop 4 down tries inside the 15 in the 4th Q. They were being embarrassed and could do absolutely nothing about it.

When you edge out a team once, and then they completely knock you silly next, you don’t call it even.

by ________key on Dec 7, 2010 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

Quite a different team, yes

They’ve gotten rid of Moss and added Branch; Hernandez, Gronkowksi and Tate have the trust of Brady to some extent now (they didn’t in week 2); BenJarvus Green-Ellis is a starting RB and Danny Woodhead is the #2 RB. Welker is a lot more healthy now – he’s had an extra 3 months to heal his knee.

That’s a significantly different offensive lineup.

Okay, it does.

1. He’s still young. He’s a second year with very little college experience leading up to this that got flustered when he realized his D wasn’t going to help bail them out. So we learned what we already knew: he’s improved tremendously but to no one’s surprise he’s not Tom Brady in his second year.

2. We learned nothing new about Shotty. He’s a terrible OC. He was during this game and he has been basically all year.

3. We already knew that too.

4. We learned they had a bad day. We beat them earlier this year, we beat the Chargers last year and we BARELY lost to the Ravens.

It was a bad day where our KNOWN weaknesses were exposed.

Even if they decide who is the defensive player of the year, you can’t be dead last in yards allowed and near last in points allowed and win a super bowl.

the Jets drove down the field in the 4th quarter. They failed to score, so the D did its job. But by giving up those 60 some yards, the numbers and ranking of the D suffers.

If they lose and we win next week, then this loss means nada. Hopefully we keep playing football and put it on the phins and the steelers going forward.

by Bob_The_Friendly_Baker on Dec 6, 2010 11:56 PM EST reply actions

Will it?

Will this slice of humble pie go along way? We’ll see at home next week against Miami because the last time this happened the Jets backed into the playoffs.

Rex needs to put this behind them; everyone has a stinker and this was it. Hopefully, it won’t translate into anything else.

One thing, everyone talks Brady up. Check out the receivers Yards After Catch, that is not on Brady but rather on the skill of the receivers. Whatevs…Chezmo needs to step up his game on the big stage

Can Rex explain

why he is SOOOOO bad at challenges? That terrible bit of shenanigans was just the latest in poor management. When was the last time they overturned a spot? And it was the sole reason he didn’t challenge the Tate TD. (Which on my third viewing, he looks like he gets a full knee down before the elbow goes out of bounds, rendering the “what part of his arm counts” argument moot)

He'll be okay.

He’ll have a down day or two and then remember that he’s better than this and move forward. He’s a good QB. He’ll bounce back.

The problem with games like this is once things slide out of control it just becomes a nightmare. I think they came out flat and all the little things working against them get it into their minds that the world was against them and they just cracked.

Schotty, what a great head coach he'll be

How can you not expect a great coach like Schotty to become a great head coach.

I mean, when you get the ball within the 10 yard line, and then bunch the offense in, like you’re going to run up the gut, and the you fool the d by calling for a pattern that runs right into the bunched up defense rather than running an out patern to the open field. How brilliant is that. No defense in the league would expect that play. He’s just so smart!!!! If i was an NFL team owner, i would try to get him right now!!!

Connolly was good at pass-pro (he's playing RG now)

But Mankins is clearly the best Patriot O-lineman at pulling. It really showed on one of the rushing TDs today – Mankins looped from LG all the way to the right, outside Vollmer, and moved the pile with Vollmer to get BJGE across.

Sanchez was freaked and spooked by about the second series.

Once the Pats started jumping his check down to LT (just like the Ravens and the Pats did), he lost his security blanket and could throw a 5 yard pass. By the time of his INTs he was fried for the game.
