I think you have to attribute that to coaching for the most part. You have to have your guys ready. More time, you should be more ready.

Then maybe in some screwed up way this is to our advantage if the goal is to make it to the superbowl. A bye week would stop us early if we ended up with the best record in the AFC.

I'm really dedicated to making the jets game not my week's highlight next year

I’ve been stuck at home, doing translation work for 6 months. If I have to keep doing it I will go mad.

Also it’s fairly mindless since I’m just cutting. All the theoretical heavy lifting is done already

I don’t know much about philosophy programs, and the school I’m at (Brown) doesn’t have a strong theory program in the polysci dept, but if you want somebody to talk to, I’d be glad to help. I know how hellish the application process can be (not to mention the work, at moments.) (I kid – it’s kind of wonderful if you have the right mental illness. Just a question

I’ve asked this before so bare with me. Why does Schotty always run LDT inside and Shonn Greene outside. LDT is capable of making tacklers miss, more then Shonn Greene. Second Shonn Greene is a down hill runner, who needs to go more straight ahead. With this said, the whole team sucks in this first half. That has to be the coaching.

by MachlinT on Dec 6, 2010 10:44 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

I was always worried winning so many close ones against junk teams. It might build character and repotoire…but it really just masks a facade that is going to come out sooner or later….and NOW we see it with our eyes.

by winnebagosun on Dec 6, 2010 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

I argued with my father about that very thing...

He believes it’s good for them to play these close games. I told him I wish they would go out there and blow some teams out and never look back. Right now this shows they need to learn to get out there and put some points on the board. Those quick comebacks are good and all but every team is not going to let us hang close like we are seeing tonight.

by Mac N Cheese on Dec 6, 2010 11:06 PM EST up reply actions

It turns out that they were right

This is the Jets biggest regular season game in years, and they are getting throttled. It speaks volumes about the preparation, coaching, execution, etc. They’re not a championship-caliber team – not yet, at least. The Patriots proved that tonight with how thoroughly they’ve dominated. And that makes me absolutely SICK to admit.

Bad coaching is part of the reason though.

And the reason we’ve almost lost to 4 bad teams this year. We better prove we aren’t pretenders soon for the wild card’s sake.

No, it's not.

Although I’m not sure what the reason is.

by cult hero on Dec 6, 2010 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Not the sole reason...

But putting this squad in the media spotlight the way they have and with the coach doing the same, has hurt these guys alot. They still didn’t prove anything yet to warrant that extra stuff. They got the absolute best from even bad teams and they weren’t able to beat them decisivley. Now their pride is being hurt and they are being embarassed, we don’t know if these guys really have it in them now to come back from this. THey have nothing to fall back on, they can’t say “it was a bad game”…Pats really look like they are a better team.

We are a fraud

I don’t want to hear any of you make any ridiculous excuses. “Great” teams don’t get their brains beaten in like this. They don’t. I don’t want to hear “any given Sunday.” I don’t want to hear “they had an off-night.” No. This team feasted on crap competition, and now that they are facing a well coached opponent that knows how to execute, they are being humiliated. What an absolutely disgraceful performance.

They may come back and win two more games and make the playoffs, but this team isn’t going anywhere. They proved tonight – they lack the heart of a champion, and they showed it all over the field tonight. I love the Jets, I love Rex Ryan, but they are what they are – an overrated team that is not there yet. I think they will get there with the Ryan/Sanchez combination, but this game is a painful reminder that we ARE NOT THERE YET.

Oh and Tom Brady is an asshole.

Anyone who would argue that after watching tonight’s performance is an eternal optimist…I’m not saying they are not a good team. I am not saying that they are not a playoff team. But this is as thorough an ass-whooping as I have ever seen in my life, and I’ve been watching this team for 35 years.

A Super Bowl team

Is he who makes the playoffs then manages to string 2 or 3 wins together against good teams. It can happy to anyone who gets a ticket to the postseason. In 07 the Giants lost to the Packers and the Pats during the season, and just barely squeaked by the Dolphins and the Lions (the LIONS!). People overrate the value of any single in-season performance. Yeah, this was ugly. But it’s just one game.

It simply reveals weaknesses. It reveals that this team lacks a champion’s heart. As I said about a million times, they will still be a wild card team, etc., but they will not win the Super Bowl. Not this year.

If the Jets win out and the Pats lose one, Jets get the tie breaker unless the Pats loss is to Green Bay.

by Evan_S on Dec 6, 2010 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

And if that loss is to GB, the Jets lose on tie-breaker #3. Pats are already 6-0 in common games, Jets 4-1 with Pittsburgh and Chicago to come. If the Pats’ loss is Chicago, then the tie-breaking procedures continue. It actually gets prety confusing. After next week’s games, I believe the picture will be clearer. I remember when I was 10 years old in 1986...

The Jets were 10-1…they were playing a hated division rival on Monday Night. I remember waking up in the morning, asking my dad if the Jets won. He said no. He said the final score was Dolphins 45, Jets 3. I was in shock. Now? We have the exact same score 24 years later, and I’m still in shock. Unfortunately, this time, I’ve actually watched the game.

Not happening. Even if they lose the last 4 games, there are quite a few scenarios that get them in. Even just beating Buffalo and ending up with 10, they will be ahead on most of the tiebreakers because all of the other contenders are 6-6.

The Ravens have the following games left:
at HOU 5-7
NO 9-3
at CLE 4-7
CIN 2-10

There’s no way they’re finishing with less than 11 wins. The Jets are not competing with them for a playoff spot. If the Jets get 11, they’re in. Only 6 AFC teams can possibly get 11 wins right now.

BTW

I can’t get enough of hearing Gruden’s Brady-worship.

I hate him.

I hate him. I hate him. I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate Jon Gruden.

I didn’t think anyone could dethrone Brent Musburger as the worst commentator ever, but Gruden is the undisputed kind of bad commentators. The only way he’d be good is if there was a good guy in the booth that would say what we’re all thinking, “Hey Jon, can you zip up your pants already. This is just embarrassing. You’re a grown man for crying out loud.”

I can’t wait for the Bears to destroy tis team next week while the Jets win at home.

In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.

We'll see...

If this team shows up we aren’t beating Carolina much less Miami.

by cult hero on Dec 6, 2010 11:33 PM EST up reply actions

Only Pittsburgh of AFC playoff contending teams plays Carolina, so not a problem.

I say we go...

3-1 the rest of the way. WHICH by the way, ties the 98 Jets for their most wins EVER. Not bad.

So

Should I watch The Walking Dead season finale or Boardwalk Empire season finale to get over this beating

Dude

You just watched the Walking Dead – the Jets defense.

Can't wait to hear Rex's postgame conference

If I see a smile or hear a laugh I’m gonna flip. There is nothing to salvage from this.

I don't think he will

I think he’s as pissed as we are.

"(BARF)" - Donovan McNabb, during his game winning drive against Virginia Tech in 1998

by kotite4ever on Dec 6, 2010 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

He should be...

Pissed at himself too. The execution was dreadful by the players this game, but the biggest joke on the field tonight was the defense. They were completely unprepared, the match-ups were comically bad and they got shredded.

I love this team and I do love Rex, but like Sanchez they’re both still making “new guy” mistakes.

And can we just fire Shotty, please?

by cult hero on Dec 6, 2010 11:48 PM EST up reply actions

It's not just that...

Watch our games (well, I’m sure you do!) and whenever we get the ball moving, we get to the 30 or 20 and then change it up. It works against us far more than it works FOR us.

Jets fans, at least you have a good shot at the playoffs. Not all of us are so fortuitous….
