Report: Jets To Ink Laveranues Coles For Short Stint

Welcome back -- WR Laveranues Coles.

My two cents: WR Jerricho Cotchery's groin injury may be nagging him a bit. Remember, the Jets gain a roster spot as SS Jim Leonhard is now on I-R.

Manish Mehta confirms it:

 Manish Mehta
Confirmed that  will sign WR Laveranues Coles on Sunday. I'm hearing he may be with  for a week or two.

Update: Cimini adds some clarification.

 Rich Cimini
signed L. Coles for emotional spark, leadership. Also allows Coles to retire a Jet, which could be real soon, like Tuesday.

Does this have anything to do with Turner being involved in the Leonhard injury?

I hope not but Coles does have good hands and it would be nice to see him come off the couch and help the Jets beat the Pats. It would be great to see Sportscenter lead off with “Coles comes out of nowhere to beat the Pats”.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Very interesting point

Normally I would say “no” but the timing was almost instantaneous after what happened yesterday…. weird.

Truth is, we may never know. Unless we don’t see Cotchery on the field much at all on Monday, and Coles is in 3-WR sets. Then we’ll know it’s due to his injury.

This move is kind of out of nowhere to me

I thought Turner looked alright in the last couple of games. Coles does bring experiance though.

Same here, hadn’t heard ANY Coles talk since like week 1/week 2. Esp after Holmes was activated in week 5, figured it was done with.

I like the move, esp if Cotchery is ailing a bit. Virtually no risk for us here.

Only if he’s wearing 87. He was wearing 19 in preseason. With Clowney gone, maybe he’ll take the number back.

Ugh. Why. I don’t think he can contribute at this level anymore.

by SioneBAAOOOHA on Dec 5, 2010 3:40 AM EST reply actions

That's terriffic

Glad for your input. Now are you an assistant WRs coach or the equipment guy?

From what we saw in the preseason and from HK, I think Coles will be fine. He is not a starter obviously, and he won’t be, he’ll just be a 3rd or 4th option and maybe special teams.

by Branta on Dec 5, 2010 10:13 AM EST up reply actions

It doesn’t take an assistant wr coach to notice how he’s played for the last year plus. Patrick Turner is the better option at this point. You are a better option at this point.

by SioneBAAOOOHA on Dec 5, 2010 10:23 AM EST up reply actions

exactly

Why wait until cotch comes back to sign him? If he was useful he wouldve been here last week. He looked old and slow last year and in camp this year; and he hasn’t played any football in 3 months. Its delusional to think he’s going to make any meaningful contribution on Monday night after being signed on Sunday morning.

This is nothing more than attempt to give the team an emotional boost in the wake of the Leonard injury. Its ceremony and pageantry, but there’s nothing substantive going on here.

I’ve been advocating this move for a while. No complaints here.

Well if its like Baseball than yes...

cause its just team discretion, and usually anyone that was on the roster for any part of the regular season gets one.

I remember back in 2003 there was this guy Lenny Harris who was playing for the Marlins. They played the Cubs in the NLCS. Harris had spent time with the Cubs earlier that year so the announcers kept mentioning how he would get a National League championship ring no matter who won.

how awesome would it be if he catches the gm winning td and retires on tuesday w/ that being the final memory of his career

I’d imagine if he caught the winning TD, the team might forcefully ask him to postpone retirement.
