Jets Player Awards Announced
As Rex Ryan just announced on his conference call this afternoon, the Jets have determined the winners for their three awards: MVP, the Ed Block Courage Award, and the Dennis Byrd Most Inspirational Player award. This is determined by a players vote. Here are the winners:
Ed Block Courage Award: Sean Ellis
Dennis Byrd Most Inspirational Player: LaDainian Tomlinson
MVP: David Harris
Its tough to argue with these selections. Ellis is a vet who plays through a lot, Tomlinson is just a class act that speaks for itself, and David Harris is among the best ILBs in the game. Revis would have probably would have won it if he never held out and got injured for the first third of the season. Holmes is also a candidate, but he did miss 4 games. I personally would have voted the following:
Ed Block Courage Award: Jerricho Cotchery
Dennis Byrd Most Inspirational Player: LaDainian Tomlinson
MVP: David Harris
Who is your selection?

Isn’t the MVP award now named after Curtis Martin?

If it isn't, it should be....
And the courage award should be named after Wayne Chrebet (just my opinion).
And is a an average to below average pass rusher at ILB...
Harris is one of our most over rated players.
I hope
you arent giving cotch the “Ed block” award for that catch alone? ellis has been a true works horse this season and truly deserves alot of kudos with pouha and devito for our great run defense.. now the pass d is another story
Other: Steve Weatherford for Jets MVP
Okay, I’m only partially joking but the field position he’s been giving teams has been absurd. Otherwise, I’d probably vote LT… he’s provided(at times) the emotional spark and veteran leadership this team has needed through these tough couple of losses.
Theres a lacrosse blog? I had no idea! Sweet

I agree with you Marisa
Thanks for the support on PSA awards too, lol.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
well I nominated myself

While I don't much like the "MVP" idea...
Since football is a team sport, I picked Sanchez. I think given the amount of total experience the kid has, he’s continued to impress me. I’m really looking forward to year 4. I think that’s gonna be THE year for him.
Mangold and Brick though, love those guys.
How about we pick one of the "Big 4" that already has a contract? lol
Seriously though while Harris is very good, I don’t really think he’s been nearly as good this year as he was the last two. Maybe seeing him get beat by RBs the past two weeks has colored my perception on that, but still… even so, I would have gone Nick Mangold or maybe even D’Brickashaw Ferguson. He’s truly stepped up into the elite class of LTs this year—shut down virtually every pass rusher he’s seen and has become a force as a run blocker. Probably split it between the two of them really.
I agree
Brick has made the biggest improvement, and that is big considering how solid he was last year. Nick doesnt seem as over powering this year as last. I think Harris needs to step up as a leader back there especially with Leonard out. I’m picking hairs though, all of them are outstanding and I wouldnt have had a problem with any of them getting it.
David Harris is great, but...
How can anyone possibly argue that he deserves it over Sanchez? The one point that EVERYONE has driven home this entire season is that the team can only go as far as Sanchez will carry them. Keller himself said this the other day, as have we, on this website, more times than I can count. Our defense has done well, no doubt, but we would not have the 10-5 record and be in the playoffs without Sanchez. Period.

I find it interesting
That the votes are so evenly spread throughout.

There doesn't seem to have really been one dominant player in part because of such inconsistency
The best player on the strongest side of the team – Darrelle Revis – was hurt early on, had an iffy game or two, and has been targeted so rarely that he hasn’t had any interceptions this year (which maybe shouldn’t matter, but I think does). Probably the next most talented player on defense- Cromartie – has been too inconsistent to really win this award. There’s nobody on the DL who’s truly excellent, meaning that the only options would be Harris or Scott, whose main strength is being consistently good. On offense, both the RBs and WRs have been inconsistent – LT and Greene have switched off being the most effective backs across the season, and Santonio Holmes and Dustin Keller have both had some astounding highs and some horrific lows. (Both basically lost games with dropped passes, though they certainly won others with some fantastic plays). Similarly, Sanchez

i'm surprised Revis didn't get more votes
he is the best player on the team, and without him i don’t think we make the playoffs this year or last
proud member of the fire Brian Schottenheimer club
"Grunt and Punt offense"
He really hasn't had an amazing year, and was basically a non factor in the first 5 games...
I’m surprised anyone voted for him.
How about Sione Pouha? He was my vote almost 60 total tackles (among the leaders for DTs) and is great every game.
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
I really don't think Harris deserved this...
just a huge liability on passing downs.
Would rank him behind Mangold, Holmes, Sanchez, and Weatherford on the difference he made for us this year.
Don't think Harris had such a great year
He had a few big hits that set the tone for the d, but other than that not many impact plays. Especially by the standards he’s set, I feel it was a down year. Also, as mentioned, he’s becoming more and more of a liability in pass coverage.
Brick and Nick would have gotten co-mvp votes from me. They both stepped up their game from what was already pro bowl level.
Good to see LDT get the Dennis Byrd inspirational player award. Although it seems like he’s lost some of his greatness, he leaves everything he has on the field. The guy has incredible heart.
