Sal Alosi Ordered Players to Make Wall; Suspended Indefinitely

Sal Alosi was suspended indefinitely today as the tripping story apparently went deeper.

The New York Jetshave suspended Sal Alosi indefinitely after the team got "new information" that the strength and conditioning coach ordered five players to stand in a wall before he tripped a Dolphins player on Sunday.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum announced the punishment after Alosi was suspended for the rest of the season and fined $25,000 on Monday.

Well I hope nobody is swayed by his crocodile tears now.

Why the hell would this guy take it upon himself to do such a thing? And why would the players listen to him? This doesn’t smell right.

Hate to say it, but I actually think it goes higher. If it does, I want them out. Even if its Rex. And I have a bad feelin it just might be him that actually ordered it. It sems just like the rash, over-emotionally driven type of move he would make.

Nope this is sacrifice and its bullshit.

In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.

This is garbage. I got no problem with putting guys there I don’t understand why they were not honest. This came from higher up than Alosi imo and no this is way shady now.

taking the fall

I dont think there is any doubt he is taking the fall for a higher up, but dont be surprised if he is not fired as the Jets dont want the real story to come out

by JW49 on Dec 15, 2010 3:27 PM EST reply actions

I don't see the problem.

There is a designated player no-go area and other than his knee, nobody was in it. Totally legal. For the 54th time, I think the guy should be gone…but not because of this.

by EVT on Dec 15, 2010 3:29 PM EST reply actions

You sir need to read rules

There is a second boundary behind the solid white line to the bench area.
Only certain personnel are allowed where Alosi was. It is possible that Alosi himself may have been allowed there, since he may be considered an assistant coach. But the rest of the non suited up players were not.

6/10/2010 - Tra Thomas signs with the Chargers
8/21/2010 - Tra Thomas retires.

That was fast.

Ask Tasker said, I don’t think making the wall is a big deal at all…the player was not only off the field, he was even past out of bounds…and there have been a few players coming out saying this happens all the time (the wall)…but the tripping was total BS and he should be fired…if he was told to start a wall, I’m fine with that…if he was told to trip, he AND whoever gave the order should be fired…and I hate to say it, even Rex…

He will get fired and the jets will "take care" of him down the road.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

He was pretty adamant about not firing this guy from day 1, it being the holidays and all....

My thoughts on the matter was if the Jets fired Alosi on Monday, this story would not have grown any legs at. Now it’s got a bunch of legs and EVERYONE is talking about it….even those bitches on The View are talking about it.

by DesertJetFan on Dec 15, 2010 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

I smelled something wrong on this and I addressed it on the first Alosi post last night

Westhoff mentioning the Pats was really weak too and makes it look 100 times worse.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

by YankeesJets on Dec 15, 2010 5:58 PM EST up reply actions

Most absurd thing...

…is how he says, “I really don’t know, because to tell you the truth before this happened I never really looked at anybody’s sideline in all my years,” and then he also says, “Well, if you watch [the Patriots], their defense when the opponents’ punt team is out there…” That doesn’t make any sense. He’s never paid any attention in his career, yet he is so quick to point out the Patriots? Dude’s clutching at straws.

so does this change your feeling about it at all?

No, not at all

The team put him that position. I dont condone what he did and now you know why he wasnt fired.

my take

Patriots fan here. I figured there might be a good discussion of this on your blog so I figured I’d swing by and see.

Here’s my thoughts on way the Jets decided to fire (“indefinitely suspend”) Alosi when word emerged about him ordering the wall to be formed: it’s not that forming such a wall is, in itself, against the rules…as far as I can tell, as long as they are within a legal part of the sideline for players to stand, they could all be standing on their heads, spinning in circles, dancing the Safety Dance (* 80’s flashback warning *) or whatever. Standing all in a row would seem to be a perfectly legitimate option.

HOWEVER, what it does show is a certain advanced/premeditated intention on the part of that coach to make life as difficult for the gunner as possible. Which makes it a LOT harder—almost impossible—to believe him when he says that when the actual trip happened, he wasn’t thinking at all, it was just a reflex reaction. If he had just been randomly standing on the sideline by himself, then maybe I could buy the argument that it was nothing more than a dumb, split-second reflex reaction with no premeditation. But when this guy has systematically organized players into a formation that is positioned in such a way as to have the greatest likelihood of being able to make contact with an opposing player, then crossing that line into the realm of initiating such contact seems much more likely to be intentional than accidental. That’s my take at least.

And I also agree with many of you here, I would be surprised to the point of being shocked if this wasn’t ordered from someone higher up the food chain.

by JohnPaul on Dec 15, 2010 3:52 PM EST reply actions

I completely agree with you.

by Crackback on Dec 15, 2010 4:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

also, if you look at the actual play

the jets players defending nolan carrol were pushing him ofb at the same spot so they would have the chance!, hm……..

they just did a 5 year deal

I realize that, but the wheels are falling off the wagon pretty fast. You would think that at this point in the season, you should be running on all (or most) cylinders and the Jets are not.

by DesertJetFan on Dec 15, 2010 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

We dont make the playoffs, the entire coaching staff and Tannenbaum should be fired

With the amount of talent this team has and after a 9-2 start, there is no reason they should not be a playoff team. Call me crazy but I dump them and bring in Cowher who will run a tighter ship and be more disciplined. Im hoping this is all a moot discussion and the Jets make the playoffs.

No..

For the first time ever, players want to play for the jets more than anyone else in the league.. I think thats invaluable

by NJNETS29 on Dec 15, 2010 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t be naïve. These guys go to the highest bidder 99% of the time. Especially in football where the contracts are not guaranteed and shorter in duration.

by Crackback on Dec 15, 2010 4:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I was about to say, money has a lot to do with it.

Hell, Revis was willing to hold out until the very end…not even RR’s personal trip to Revis’ home changed his mind. It’s all about the money.

by DesertJetFan on Dec 15, 2010 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

I read that already. 2 out of every 10 players polled is not overwhelming in my book.

Heck, even Tony Dungee got a vote! LOL.

I wonder what the results would be if they polled them now instead when the Jets were on top of the division.

by DesertJetFan on Dec 15, 2010 4:51 PM EST up reply actions

You’re definitely interpreting that wrong.. Each players had 31 coaches to choose from and they chose Rex 21% of the time. That actually is overwhelming cause on average each coach only got 3% of the vote. Another way to put this into perspective for you is that Rex received approximately 200% more votes than the second highest coach and 700% more than the average. Also the top coaches on that list were Ryan and Tomlin, Fisher, Belichick, and Payton. All of those other guys have coached a team to the super bowl and 3 of the 4 have won one.

by NJNETS29 on Dec 15, 2010 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

Which all means didley squat. Doesn’t mean they’d take less money to play here. Maybe u can snag some old vet that’s used to be a star and has already made his money. But those guys are risky as hell and uisually don’t make much of a difference anyway.

by Crackback on Dec 15, 2010 5:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Not saying this is scientific fact or anything, I just think theres a basically no chance of him being replaced after this year.

by NJNETS29 on Dec 15, 2010 5:01 PM EST up reply actions

no chance

there is no chance Rex goes after this season no matter what happens. While I agree he leaves alot to be desired as a HC, he is an exceptional DC and I believe he really wants to do this . If we get blown out the next 3 game he is still here.
What WILL happen is the entire offensive staff will get canned.

by KZL on Dec 15, 2010 6:08 PM EST reply actions

Sorry but this goes to the top

Mangini was the head coach when the Jets collapsed in 08 even though Schotty couldve shared in the blame. Rex is the head coach and has to know there is a problem on offense, if he cant take the reins and do something, he should not be the head coach of any football team.

Dont give me the garbage that he is a defensive guy, defensive guys have to decipher what an offense is doing. If Rex cant take one look at that offense and know he would destroy it, he has to go.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
