Sal Alosi Suspended for Rest of Season Without Pay

[Edit by John B, 12/13/10 8:14 PM EST ] Alosi has also been fined $25,000.

Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi has been suspended for the remainder of the season and postseason without pay Jay Glazer just reported on FOX's pregame show. The team and the league came to an agreement according to Glazer.

I don't think this goes far enough. I am disgusted that this clown (and that's what he is) will continue to represent the Jets in any way. I hope a quiet dismissal takes place after the year. I'm tired of all the bad press this organization is getting. It's time to make an example out of somebody. Who better than a guy with a job for which there are thousands of qualified replacements? If this guy doesn't value what he has by embarrassing the team this way, let him work in some hole in the wall gym, and get someone who values the position and will represent the team with dignity.

Discuss below.

He should have just quit and saved the $25,000.The Jets will quietly let him go

at the end of the season when this dies down. What he did is even worse than if a fan ran on the field and tackled somebody at the knee with the chance of seriously injuring a player.Unforgiveable and something that will never be forgotten in Jet lore.

What he did was awful but he still is a human being

People make mistakes, at least he was man enough to own up to it. Everybody deserves a second chance. I dont think the guy has a history of doing bad things on the job.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Just my opinion but to me

there is making a mistake, and there is trying to injure somebody (or showing complete disregard for a player’s health). If this guy can’t appreciate that he has his dream job and needs to represent his organization and his fans the right way, I have a tough time generating sympathy. He can go on with his life and do something else, but I think there’s a distinction between an honest accidental mistake and malicious behavior.

Do you really belive he was trying to injure the guy?

I think he was trying to take him down but not trying to injure him. The guy has been punished, he called up the Fins and the player and apologized, what more can he do? Charity work? Community service? Offensive Coordinator?

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

First of all, the offensive coordinator comment might be the funniest thing I’ve ever read on this blog. I literally almost spit my tea onto my screen, so good work.

He was either trying to injure him or he didn’t care he was going to injure Carroll, which is just as bad in my book. Nolan Carroll might not have gotten a second chance because of this guy.

There are thousands of guys out there the Jets can hire who won’t embarrass the team like this. If Alosi can’t appreciate what he has, the team can make a more deserving guy’s dream come true.

Na I don’t think so. It was a shit thing to do no doubt however if you are saying while he was sticking his knee out he was saying in his head “I am trying to end this players career or really hurt him” I find that extremely hard to believe. Heat of the moment thing.

For the record, I am on the “fire him” side, but I don’t think the intent was to injure. To trip and get him out of the play yes, but not injure. Sure it was dumb and dangerous but lets put it in his perspective at the time.

Not sticking up for him but whats done is done

They shouldn’t have waited for the league to take the matter up. It looks like they didn’t want to do anything but their hand is being forced. The guy shouldve been swiftly dismissed immediately.

by Crackback on Dec 13, 2010 7:39 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I don't know...

I think the Jets were right to work in coordination with the league on the punishment. It’s a situation where it is kinda hard for the Jets to come out looking good, but leaving the decision to the league was probably best.

Personally, I’m not sure the punishment goes far enough. But he admitted to what he did, apologized, and seemed sincerely remorseful. Also, it seems he has no previous history of doing this kind of thing, and had even won a sportsmanship award while at Hofstra. And suspension without pay is more than just a slap on the wrist.

by rebop on Dec 13, 2010 9:04 PM EST up reply actions

Suspension without pay is essentially the same as a firing (if the time period is indefinite). Its a weak approach to the issue.

This is more than this singular issue. This is another mishap in a long list of mishaps this season, dating back to rex’s bird flip in miami. The jets have an image issue. Remember initially with the braylon dui, they were gonna leave it up to the league. By waiting for the league, you imply that you tacitly condone the behavior. Bc if it were up to you, you wouldn’t punish the act. Also, there’s rumors flying around that rex ordered his guys to stand their ground in the out of bounds area, and that the action was ordered. Unfortunately, this is not implausible. So instead taking the opportunity to show a strong hand and disassociate with an expendable, you leave it to the league, which let’s the haters run wild with the “he was acting under rex’s orders” speculation.

The failure to take swift action is also a missed opportunity to show strength to ur team, who desparately are need of discipline. Fire this schmuck, fire schotty, and then tell ur team that they’re next.

and he is still in the NFL (he made a tackle on special teams for Baltimore last night). Leonard Little has multiple DUI’s and he’s played a long time in the NFL. I’m not defending this guy because what he did is inexcusable…especially considering he used to play football. I heard somebody suggest that the punishment should be to make him suit up and play special teams against Miami next time they play. I’m not sure I’d take it that far, but it made me laugh.

I tell you what, the more I watch it, the more convinced I am that Westhoff told a bunch of coaches to stand there. Miami kept running out of bounds (they were even flagged for it once).

Now, theres noting illegal with just standing there. After all, if you are knocked out, you shouldnt keep running down the sidelines. But kicking your leg out is another deal.

if that were the case you complain to the refs about it, you don’t take matters into your own hands and trip somebody. (I know you’re not suggesting otherwise). But what you are suggesting (that he did it because the Dolphins had been using the sidelines illegally throughout the game) would make what he did worse to my way of thinking, because it suggests some level of premeditation. give me a break. he should be fired.

First of all, part of this guy’s job is maintaining the health of players, for him to pull a move that could have easily caused the dolphin player serious injury, not only makes him look like a complete waste of flesh, but it also doesnt represent him too well as a strength and conditioning coach either. The Jets need to distance themselves from this guy as far as possible for the good of their oranization. This guy is not a player, and has absolutely no right to intentionally physically involve himself with the game for any reason. For anyoe who thinks “people deserve 2nd chances” I completely agree with you. However, that second chance doesnt have to come from his current employer. There are certain things depending on your job that cannot be tolerated, and this is an example of one of them. Perhaps he’ll get another shot with a team where his position wouldnt give him a chance to interfere with the field of play. Maybe he can be a strength and conditioning coach for some table tennis team somewhere.

Dolphin fan here.

First of all I see most of you guys wanted him fired which is good. That’s respectable by you the fans. This punishment is weak. He needed to be fired. Does he get fired if the player got hurt? Can you kick someone in the knee at work and not get fired? This was a bad move by your front offense. I really think this guy got off to easy. Yea it sucks to fire some near Christmas but to suspend someone without pay is about the same thing. I don’t see how it helps PR. I would be feeling the same way if the roles were reversed. Just a outside perspective.

If the Fins and Carroll accepted the apology, this is a dead issue

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Carroll wouldn't speak out about it.

He would let the people responsible for handling it handle it, and keep his mouth shut. He’s a politically correct kid. Apology’s only go so far.

Depends on the job or the value you have to your employers. Important or well liked people usually will get second chances or not as harsh of a punisment for a mistake. I guess the Jets really like this guy for him to still be here

Miami Fan Here....

We give you guys (Jets Fans as a whole) a whole lot of crap, but I think as a whole you earned a lot more of my respect just reading all of your comments.

Even in your game thread, every single one of you immediately jumped on the offenders case, immediately stating you wanted to see him gone…..

Most of you around here have seen me pop in every so often, and we’ve had some good (and spirited) debates….. Some of you I can agree with, others I don’t.

But every single one of you (with Yankees being the question mark hehe) earned my respect. While I’m sure none of you really care :) I think you all deserve it being brought up by a hated division rival.

Kudos, and I Rec this thread as a rec for all of you.

The question mark? Because I believe in second chances?

I never said what he did was right but he manned up admitted his mistake, apologized and will be suspended without pay. That should be enough. Im sure he learned from his mistake and that is the whole reason that punishments exists in life.

why can't he get his second chance with another team?

what he did was an embarrassment to the Jets organization, and will be a black eye to gang green as long as he’s an employee.

Because they are happy with him and he has a good record before the incident?

Im sure by next year this will not even be thought of.

this is inappropriate behavior for a coach

there’s no way around it. one time is all you need to destroy a good reputation. and if he is allowed to retain his job, this will come up if ever someone brings up the follies of the Jets org., and FO. cut ties with him at the end of the season, and wipe this scar off the organizations name.

Thanks for the complement and I enjoy reading your views.

However, for a New Yorker,I’m having trouble accepting you are somewhat surprise by our views on this. It seems the Jets and New Yorkers in general have a rep as having no class. I don’t get where this came from or how it started, but thats all for lack of a better word outsides harp on, that the Jets have no class.

fired

plain and simple. doesn’t matter the result of the hit. I just don’t understand why alosi didn’t try to trip up the OC and actually done some good for the team

I'm a little disappointed in my team

He needed to be fired. Officially. There is zero room for that in any sporting game. If it were an opposing teams coach I’d want him charged with simple assault.
