Fire Brian Schottenheimer

The time for positivity is long gone. The Jets need to fire Brian Schottenheimer immediately. The predictable play calls are an absolute joke. And to those Jets fans out there who say we need the continuity for Sanchez, I have something for you. We haven't scored a TD in 3 weeks. Our offense can't get any worse! There is no continuity other then continually failing to put points on the board.

Fire Shottenheimer now!!! Sign the petition created by a Jets fan while you're at it. I did.

He has no confidence

in Sanchez. It may be justified but …… this is a no win situation. Either they bring in Brunell or Clemens and open things up a bit (probably not a good solution at this point) or …… you’ve got to open things up some. It is a dilemma, though, because Sanchez has not shown any consistency. He gets some credit for his last minute heroics earlier in the year but …… let’s face it, none of those teams were good. Sanchez is showing his true colors now against decent teams.

He should AT LEAST

have play-calling duties stripped from him. I think he just points randomly to a sheet and picks a play, rather than calling to fit a situation.

by umohan21 on Dec 12, 2010 7:36 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know about that, it seems predictable to me. On first down for 2 series call a run play right up the gut. On every 3rd 1st down call a play action pass that never works (remember the days when Boomer was so good on the Play Action the Camera would follow the RB, not so much anymore). If the play action doesn’t work (which it never does) call a Run on 2nd and 10 which absolutely gets stuffed and forces a throw on third down. Make sure the primary receiver on 3rd and long is going to be in front of the poles too.

The run on first gets 3 yards, call another run that is blatantly obvious. Get stuffed and now your in another 3rd and long situation. So now it’s time for another bad 3rd down passing play.

Never call a screen, never try to get a run to the outside. Don’t bring in an RB as an extra blocking back because your replacement tackle is getting beat all day. Oh and make sure you call deep passing plays at the worst possible time, like when it’s a 2nd and 6.

That’s about 90% of Schotty’s MO

But he won’t get fired, Woody Johnson loves him. And an Online Petition will never ever work. 10 million people could sign it and no one will ever care. At the end of the season just hope that Lil Schotty gets hired somewhere as a head coach.

Permission?

He only needs permission while we are still in the playoffs. You can’t keep a coordinator from interviewing for a higher position and accepting it.

Your QB was 5/18 and took the same number of sacks. Sanchez may not be a good QB but he certainly aint a Jamarcus Russel, Ryan Leaf, or Chad Henne. We have a superbowl team thats just hampered by an anemic offense lead by a awful OC. When you see Rex Ryan hoist the Lombardi trophy this February then we can talk alright

Focus Focus Focus

While perhaps the comments by Goon305Boy10 were a little strong, few of us could deny the message. The situation is about who we have as OC and then our QB. Comparisons to other QBs have no place in this discussion. It’s all about what would work for the Green, not other teams’ players. So for those of you mentioning other players, you’re missing the point.

For the record, my opinion is that Schotty should be cleaning out his locker at year-end, we give Sanchez another full year to progress and replace our back up QB Brunell. He’s not mentoring well and anyone who thinks he can step in hasn’t seen his play in the last few years.

It makes sense but when you break it down they both have led their teams nowhere.

I mean we have Callahan, you guys have to have a better coach on your team to run the show. Fire the both of them so they can go coach in the UFL together.

by Timmaht on Dec 12, 2010 10:53 PM EST up reply actions

Complete Agreement

I will only say that I agree as I just vented on the previous thread. We lead the league in first down rushes. Every team knows it and they call their defense respectively. Stop the run on the first down, stop the run on the second down through the first three quarters and rush Sanchez up the middle on third down. Hey Rex – the offense is letting your D down and dragging the team back to same ol Jets. Fire Schotty. There is nothing creative going on offensively. If you’re going to line up Smith behind center then throw the ball or flip it outside to Green or McKnight or even Holmes. Embarrasing offensive football with the amount of talent. Callahan!!

Tonight...

Though the line totally collapsed on the left side, and the kid couldn’t find the side of a parked jet plane, the Jets’ offense is just too predictable. Why this kid is throwing as much as he did tonight is beyond me, but 64% run on first down rate (highest in the league), the Jets’ running back have no chance to to explode behind an out matched o-line and the QB is being played by the Pats and Fishes defending 7 on 7 drills. This is too much pressure on the QB and the defense.

Henne stinks, and Sanchez is even worse, especially when it gets below 50 or 40 degrees, and that is bad news if you are going to play your career in the Meadowlands.

He’s not the only problem but he’s easily the biggest. Our HC is inexperienced and stubborn and that’s gonna take some time to correct. Our QB is inexperienced but I think a lot of his struggles are because casual observers know what’s coming and that it’s not anything good. He’s a dreadful OC and until our offensive system isn’t the problem we’ll never know how good or bad Sanchez really is. I fear he’s going to be the next Alex Smith though.

Sanchez has spent his whole (short) NFL career under Schotty. Whether or not he’s the whole problem, he certainly is part of it and therefore at least partially dragging down Sanchez’ stats (along with Mark’s inconsistency).

Historically, he's been the primary problem

Schottenheimer has problems in these areas:

No offensive identity
Game planning is shown not to exist
Adjusting to game conditions (AFC Championship 2009)
Way to predictable-(not just this season)
Offensive ball control which exposes the defense too much
Complex pre-snap formations / pedestrian play calling

LaDanian Tomlinson is notorious for it. All the talent in the world, but it disappears right around playoff time. Braylon Edwards is similar, and Santonio Holmes has a horrible ability to disappear for entire games and then crop up for a TD towards the end. It helps, sure, but you wonder where he has been for the other 59 minutes of a game.

Who’d the Jets get rid of last year? Thomas Jones, who always struck me as a leader and cool head on shoulders. He’s the polar opposite of LdT, and it’s times like these when it really shows.

but you have big names who are other people’s cast-offs, so good can they really be??
and I can’t completely disagree….

First off I will say that Holmes is a stud (but so is Brandon Marshall and we can’t get him the ball). However, besides Holmes, you have LT – who looked fresh at the beginning of the year but has obviously worn down, Braylon – trust me, I’m from Ohio, They don’t come much more overrated than Braylon Edwards. Theres a reason their former teams couldnt wait to get rid of them. So although those two put butts in the seats and sell jerseys, just how good are they anymore????

by jjschmid72 on Dec 12, 2010 8:16 PM EST reply actions

Well IMO anyways..

Holmes is a few years removed from the SB in which he won the MVP so I don’t question him.

Braylon could be a number one on a few teams; I’ll admit his talents are sometimes inflated but he is still a deep threat and you have to pay attention to him.

LT was meant to be a 3rd down back and leader but he started strong and took the bulk of the carries. Now he’s getting pounded and not being a cold weather back we expect to see Shonne but it doesnt happen i.e. SCHOTTY.

I mean…jeez there’s no focus.

I'm not sure how he was ever meant to be a leader to replace Thomas Jones

I’ve got all the respect in the world for Jones’s locker-room leadership ability, and none for LaDanian Tomlinson’s. The guy shrinks when the going is rough, especially in playoffs. I lost track of the times he cried and/or spent the entire game on the bench, ‘hurt’, in knockout games against the Pats.

Actually, you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Braylon was traded because of his personal problems, not his performance problems. His only problem on the field has been dropping passes, and he hasn’t been doing that this season. Where would the Jets be without Santonio Holmes this season, and the Steelers couldn’t wait to get rid of him too.

I'm not so sure

Who was that bum that caught like 16 TDs and like over 1200 yds? I think he went to the pro bowl too that year…..then stopped giving a shit, realizing he plays for the Browns being thrown to by Derek Anderson. You and I both know if Braylon had the likes or Tom Brady, Manning, Brees etc. throwing to him, he would repeat his 2007 performance annually.

by jetsbill on Dec 13, 2010 12:11 AM EST up reply actions

You're proving my point

If he could get those stats with Derek Anderson, then why can’t he seem to get them with anyone else? Calvin Johnson has been making bad qbs look good for 3 years.

Like I said, Cleveland got rid of him because of problems both on and off the field. He stopped “giving a shit” like you said and it effected his play on the field. He’s a bum of the worst kind because he has chosen to be. He has the potential and talent to be a top-level WR and yet he’s not. He can’t even get open when he’s receiving single coverage because of Holmes receiving all the attention.

A lot of people think Mark Sanchez has the ability to be a franchise qb. Well, if Braylon Edwards could make Derek anderson look that good, then why isn’t he doing it with Sanchez?? Something’s gotta give, because if both of them were nearly as good as many claim them to be then they would both be doing a lot more.

Get Shotty the fuck outta here. Im sick of this inablitiy to score touchdowns.

New O.C

We need to get rid of Schotty Josh McDaniels will help develop Mark into a better smarter and confident quarterback. Brian is not doing his job he is suppose to be putting Mark in situations where he can succeed and I do not see that. They have been talking about how careless Mark carries the ball in the pocket and it showed today 4 fumbles only lost one but with us playing two teams that strive on striping the ball from the opponent they will be watching film and try to capitalize that flaw.

yes fire schotty but lets get things straight

mark sanchez was NOT that horrible all i was seeing is balll that should have been caught and dropped if holmes catch that ball that last field goal would of been the game winner what about keller dropping the ball edward dropping the ball cotch dropping the ball dont get me wrong he wasnt great but he wasnt so scary it would cause ppl to rip there hair out ok he made 3-4 horrible throws that i seen and it was pouring out there so dont you crucify sanchez because the real problem is schotty point blank period.

The WR didnt help him out but

Sanchez was horrible today. If Sean Smith could catch he would have had a career day maybe even broke a record or 2

exactly Mark has the potential to be a very good QB in this league but he needs someone who is going to maximize his talent

If it looks, sounds, and swims like a duck...

Enough already. I can tell what plays the Jets are doing to run and I’m not a football lifer or a coach. There is no rhthym, no creativity. It looks like the Chad Pennington dink and dunk era all over again. You cant live by a few nice passing plays a game – dont you all out there hold your breath on a downfield throw? I also think the o line is not as strong as it used to be. Slauson is average and Mangold’s shoulder is worse than anyone is letting on.

What do you mean "maybe"?

"Schotty... You Suck!" - Mark Sanchez

by jetsbill on Dec 13, 2010 12:10 AM EST up reply actions

Schotty's two biggest problems, in my opinion are this:

1) He’s too predictable. We know that every first down will be a run between the tackles, and when that doesn’t work (which is often), he puts a strain on the passing game to have to convert 2nd and 3rd and longs.

2) No feel for the game’s “flow” at all. Whenever Sanchez finally gets clicking (which is rare enough these days), all of a sudden he throws in the Wildcat. The Wildcat hasn’t worked all year, and yet he insists on running the same play out of that formation over and over again – the Brad Smith fake handoff, followed by a run up the middle for two yards. Meanwhile, Sanchez’ rhythm is completely thrown off and invariably the drive stalls.

I think there are other problems with the offense – namely, Sanchez is erratic as hell and needs to get better in a hurry. But it all begins with the guy designing the schemes, calling the plays, and coaching the players. The offense has been COMPLETELY AWFUL against good defenses this year, and I’m sorry, but there is too much talent on that side of the ball to not score a TD in almost three games. I’ve never been a huge fan of Schotty’s, but now I’ve had it.

Fire Brian Schottenheimer.

To add...

I think the WC pisses off Sanchez. I know there was some talk in the preseason about it. He doesn’t like having the reins taken away at all.

I liked using the WC when we’d pass now and then, but I think Brad Smith’s touchdown pass earlier this year was the last time we threw from it.

I really think the lack of consistency falls mostly on the OC. With everything we have on the offense we should be able to weather mediocre to bad play from the QB. We can’t and we don’t.

BS two biggest problems:

  1. he is still in New York
  1. he is still breathing

This is a dupe

I started this same post over a year ago.

I would be curious to know details of what level of autonomy Sanchez is given. That would help me understand a lot..

At this point...

I hope we’re shut out every single game from here on out until he’s no longer our OC. As long as we continue to work around him, he’ll remain our OC. When we finally fall apart, maybe someone who can make the decision will see he’s bad news.

by cult hero on Dec 12, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

spread the blame

Its easy to blame BS and rightfully so, but lets look at sanchez as well. here is the break down.
accurate = yes he is
strong arm = yes he has that too
potential = yes
able to avoid being sacked = he can escape most of the time
field vision = NO
decission making = NO
experience = no
I agree we need to get rid of BS and the sooner the better, but it may be a good idea to look at veteran QB perhaps one in his 5 or 6 year that can not only push sanchez but take over…it is not unreasonable to re do sanchez’s contract to make room to bring in a "young" proven starter..
AND MOST IMPORTANT FIRE BS…fortunatly there are enough HC positions open that he can leave on good terms

Pats are 11-2 and on a 5 game winning streak against good teams.

Jets aren’t.

I agree, Shotty needs to be replaced.

I don’t think he should get axed completely. I just think his role should be made a lot smaller. No more play calling duties.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

Unfathomable!

I believe in Rex—but for the team to fall apart like this is unfathomable. It’s on his shoulders. Yes, the defense did great—but Dolphins offense stinks. On offense, why has the line lost its attitude? No way will Rex fire Schotty. But he can take more control to at least avoid the dumb play calls. That would help a bit—if Rex is capable of that. Of great concern is Greene. If he’s out, we lose the key weapon needed to ground and pound in bad weather. Pitt is similar to Miami—but better. Still, a funky bounce, big catch, and shoeless run going our way can give us victory! Go Jets!
