Talking Point Announcers Will Beat Into the Ground Sunday
We are starting a new feature today on GGN. We're going to preview the talking points you will hear nonstop by the announcers in the booth Sunday. Let's talk Jets-Lions.
You know, Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez were the top two quarterbacks off the board in the 2009 NFL Draft.

That will be one of the biggest pluses of attending the game.....no dumb ass announcers.
This is your Main Stream Media at its best. Every team sport is always about the superstar individuals. They cannot handle an actual team, and the importance of the sacrifice and close cooperation required to be successful.
I think they view that as too socialistic sounding and unpatriotic. I’m sure their sponsors would not like to hear that.
Not sure why you would say this now. Its still pretty early to say IMO.
I never got why people equated a Super Bowl victory with validation of a QB’s worth.
Jeff Hostetler won a Super Bowl. Does that make him better than Jim Kelly? Same with Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer to name a couple.
As above it takes a team to win a Super Bowl, not just a superstar QB.
I’m a Lions fan. I’m glad we chose Stafford. I’m impressed that you guys made the big move forward to grab your guy. I hope they both turn into superstars in this league. Some people seem to think that Lions fans want to see Sanchez fail, and Jets fans want to see Stafford fail. If that makes you feel better about your guy, well good luck to you.
Seeing as how the Lions are my 3rd favorite team (thanks to watching Barry Sanders as a young impressionable kid), I would love nothing more than for both QBs to succeed to the highest degree. I don’t think that JetOrange meant anything bad by what he said. In fact, although I agree that it’s too early, I also agree that Stafford is a better QB and until now there’s nothing that has shown anybody that Sanchez will ever be better than him.
Since Stafford and Sanchez aren't on the field at the same time
I think the better matchup will be Jets O-Line vs Detroit D-Line. As Jim Schwartz pointed out our D-Line is leading a team with 22 sacks, hell the D-Line had 6 last week. But the Jets O-Line could easily be the best in the league, Sanchez always seems to have all the time in the world to sit in the pocket
Definitely
Your d-line is looking like the last Jim Schwartz-led Titans d-line this year. Suh is a monster, Vanden-Bosch has been doing his thing, Cliff Avril got that strip-sack on Sexy Rexy last Sunday to ice the game, etc. Our o-line, on the other hand, had probably one of its worst games this past weekend. It will be interesting as hell to see how Suh does against Mangold and/or Moore. I anticipate we’re gonna try to run the ball a lot because that seems to be the default reaction to Sanchez having a bad game, and maybe that works out well for us!
Suh is a total nightmare for OLs
If you single team him you’re screwed, if you double team him he can often still beat you while simultaneously providing holes for the rest of the line. I think the best route opposing teams can go is outside running routes and short passes to tight ends and especially running backs coming out of the backfield. It always seems like we give up huge passing gains to opposing RBs
I agree. Those will be the game deciding match ups.
I am including the opposite match up as well, the Lions O Line vs Jets D Line/Rush LBs.
Our O Line has been outstanding in pass protection, but not very good in run blocking. We need them to keep Stafford upright and also to make some holes for our RBs. Our run game is not good, but we still run enough to keep the other team honest. If we rushed for 100 yards, like we did against Washington, I would be very happy.
There
are actually some really good matchups.
Revis vs. CJ
Jets O-line vs. Lions D-Line
Lions TE’s vs. Jets LB’s
and of course Staffrd vs. Sanchez
I'm interested to see how Best does against our line and LB's.
