Jets work out PK Kris Brown

Looks like Nick Folk's time in New York might be done soon. The Jets have worked out former Chargers kicker Kris Brown. The downside of the Jets search on the open market for a new kicker? The kickers on the market are unemployed for a reason.

Maybe this motivates him to work harder and be more accurate in order to save his job.

ugh Brown isn't a better option
Even chocked for the changers when he replaced an injured Nate Kaeding couple of games back.
Why even bother.

Didn't Kris Brown FG Kick a ball into Preston Lacy's face in Jackass 3D?
At any rate, I don’t like this idea very much. Changing kickers mid-season has not had good results for a lot of teams in the past – when the Cowboys cut Folk last year it didn’t end well for them, the Redskins also struggled to replace Shaun Suisham – I can’t stand Folk, but I hate the idea of bad luck even more.
I don't know what to think
He’d probably be my choice of what’s available. He’s not as bad as people are making him out to be.
I was really against signing Folk. Then I was one of the people vehemently defending him. Now I’m running out of reasons to do so, and similarities to his tenure in Dallas are starting to show through.
Keep Folk and risk more blown chances and bad kickoffs? Sign Kris Brown and hope he’s better thank Folk overall? Or clog the roster with kickers so we have a kickoff guy and a field goal specialist?
I don’t see any easy solution. I was kind of hoping New Orleans would release John Carney by now but no dice I guess.

Totally agree. First I hated the move, then loved it, now don’t know what to think…
Sometimes it’s nice to not have to make these decisions!

Funny
Thought his short kickoffs were intentional. Not funny is making 5 of last 10 and nearly missing a PAT

Wasn't Chris Brown a Texan?
He was in a battle with Rackers for the spot in the pre-season. The other “highly toughted” kicker battles were Shayne Graham and Billy Cundiff on the Ravens, and Mike Rayner and Dave Nugent on the Bengals. Of the losers (Graham, Rayner and Rackers) Graham is employed by the Pats and the Lions got Rayner. Brown had a shot in the beginning of the year but got beat, got picked up by the Chargers who already had a kicker (he was hurt for a couple of games I believe), but now he’s back on the open market. He isn’t just some guy who can’t kick. He might be the last shot at a decent replacement. Granted, he did lose his spot to competition in other places, but the guy is a 77% field goal kicker. If you want a change at kicker, he is a little more proven. This isn’t a terrible move, but it would probably be a net zero gain and a change for the sake of change. The Bengals are looking at him too. Once he’s off the market though, It’s probably going to Folk, ’till the end of the season do you part.
