Cincinnati Bengals at New York Jets Simulation on What If Sports

I'm a huge fan of the website What If Sports. It takes the attributes of sports teams across history and allows you to simulate games of teams across eras. I'm going to try to use their site to simulate upcoming games. We'll start with Thursday's game against the Bengals.

True to form, the Jets let an inferior team hang around and come out with a miracle last second victory. Mark Sanchez hits Braylon Edwards on a 65 yard Hail Mary with 4 seconds left on the clock, and Nick Folk adds the extra point for a 24-23 win. That's not a joke. That's what the simulation came up with.

It caps an otherwise rough 9 for 20 day for Sanchez.

The Jets overcome what at one point was a 20-7 Bengals lead.

Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie shut down Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens. Johnson finishes the game with 3 catches for 41 yards. Owens is held to 4 catches for 40 yards. Jordan Shipley leads the Bengals with 56 receiving yards on 3 catches.

The Bengals bottle up LaDainian Tomlinson, who has only 29 yards on 11 carries, but Shonn Greene has a big game with 59 yards and 1 touchdown on 8 carries.

Most likely.

I’m not sure. Do you remember the channel it was on for the Giants last year?

If it was on 5 then its probably on CBS. Or My9?

Check one of those. I’m sure we’ll find it before kick off. No worries.

This is sooo accurate, Jenkins even gets a tackle, what a miracle!!!

It also says Cummings will have an INT off our practice squad

I guess it isn’t exactly up to date. The 65 yard hail Mary sounds about right though

They also have Mike Nugent kicking field goals, and he’s on injured reserve rofl. Great site.

Funny. I’m expecting a sophmore game from sanchez as well. He hasn’t had a game with a couple bad picks that I can think of. Wouldn’t mind if he got it out of his system this week. Bc we can be pretty sure that palmer will give us a couple too.

NFL Network

I live in the ATL. I have NFL network, but will be at the in laws :( and they have charter crappy cable who is in a big fight with the NFL.
Has anyone had any luck streaming the game form NFL network to a pc or iphone? Just figured I would ask.

Not sure about these type scenarios....

I think if a team has played pretty consistently it might be a harbinger of things to come, but Cincy is tanking pretty quickly this season. No way they would’ve lost to Buffalo last year. The team that lost last weekend was not the same team the Jets played twice at the end of last season. That’s not to say it can’t happen, especially after the last few weeks, but these simulations are only as accurate as the information stored in them.

But I have to agree with crackback that if Sanchez is due for an off game, this might be a good time. Maybe we see the D take over. They’re due as well.

All of you guys are giving the Bengals way too much credit

I am a die hard Bengals fan on life support. This game will be over in the first 10 minutes when your opening drive is a TD, Carson throws a pick six to your nose tackle, Benson coughs up the rock giving you a short field for another quick TD and then just give up altogether. Hell, I am not sure I will even risk vomiting up a good turkey dinner by watching it.This could be the worst Bengal team of all time. For the Jets starters it will be like a preseason game. They will only play one quarter and let the scrubs mop it up. If you lose this game your entire team should just go out and shoot themselves. I predict 37-7 Jets with our only points coming off of a blown snap fumble recovery by a Bengal Dlineman who accidently stumbles into the endzone.

What if truly isnt

The NY Post runs a What if Sports scenario every Friday. I think that on the season its running 30 games under .500 so I can’t really put any stock in its prediction.

I just ran it using the weather forcast for thursday (remember there is a weather option) and got a decisively different result

As in 38-20 Jets over the Bengals

http://whatifsports.com/NFL/boxscore.asp?GameID=4433425&teamfee=-1&theme=-1

1st Quarter
NEW 7:20 TD Santonio Holmes 2 yd. pass from Sanchez (Folk kick) 0-7
CIN 2:54 TD Cedric Benson 7 yd. run (Nugent kick) 7-7
2nd Quarter
NEW 10:05 TD John Conner 1 yd. pass from Sanchez (Folk kick) 7-14
NEW 6:02 TD Dustin Keller 8 yd. pass from Sanchez (Folk kick) 7-21
NEW 1:51 TD Santonio Holmes 30 yd. pass from Sanchez (Folk kick) 7-28
CIN 0:58 TD Terrell Owens 6 yd. pass from Palmer (Nugent kick) 14-28
3rd Quarter
CIN 5:41 FG Mike Nugent 29 yds. 17-28
4th Quarter
CIN 14:16 FG Mike Nugent 34 yds. 20-28
NEW 9:50 TD LaDainian Tomlinson 27 yd. pass from Sanchez (Folk kick) 20-35
NEW 0:00 FG Nick Folk 44 yds. 20-38

Notice however that the date they use has the Jets at 6-2 and the Bengals 2-5 so it is not up to date
