Is Santonio Holmes our best off-season acquisition?
This off-season was absolutely packed with blockbuster moves by the New York Jets. Names such as LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie, and Brodney Pool all joined the organization. But none might be as important and clutch as Santonio Holmes.
The last 3 weeks, we owe our victories in big part to Mr. Holmes. After setting up the game winning Nick Folk field goal
in Detroit on a slant, breaking the over-time tie in Cleveland and catching the shocking game winner against the Texans, can we pronounce Santonio the Jets best off-season pickup?
Let's let you readers decide. Who is our best off-season acquisition? Is it LaDainian Tomlinson, who has provided a receiving threat out of the backfield in extremely clutch situations? Antonio Cromartie who has arguably replaced Revis as the best CB on the Jets? Brodney Pool who has filled in admirably for the always stylish (but physically lacking) Kerry Rhodes? Or the late game hero, Santonio Holmes?

Hes basically won the last 4 games.
Well late in the games hes got it done. Of course he didn’t do it alone.

Only if you're judging on stats.
Let’s not forget Revis had a bum hammy.
Revis is on his own planet. I like Cro, but 1 catch, 10 yards for Megatron? Holy S**tballs.

And whose fault is it that Revis had a bad hammy?
It’s his own for holding out Camp.

Well, it’s not like he’s a worse corner because of it. Injuries happen.

Well, the fact that Revis has had so many fewer opportunities (I know he’s played fewer games), means he’s being avoided more often than Cro. If you’re better, they’ll keep from throwing at you more.

I would say Cromartie has made a bigger contribution this year, but Revis is definitely the better player.

I think you are missunderstanding...
I think he is saying that if the CB is that good then the WR/RB/TE doesn’t even catch the ball so there would be no need to tackle.

These last few weeks just illustrate everything I’ve been preaching to friends (and probably on this site too) ever since we acquired Santonio. He is the real deal, and the Jets need to lock him up long term once free agency starts.

Sorry JJM, but Cro replaceing Revis? 1 catch, 10 yards for Megatron. Andre Johnson was non existient today. I catch (a spectacular one) against him in the Browns game. He’s still the best in the biz.

I guess the real question is… next game, who sticks Ocho and who sticks T.O. ?
by SioneBAAOOOHA on Nov 21, 2010 9:36 PM EST up reply actions
Cro Matches up better for TO than Ocho – He’s more vertical and has similiar height dimensions.
Revis is just too physcial for a finesse reciever like Ochocinco, but I imagine they mix it up a lot.

LaDainian Tomlinson
He’s been making big plays since game 1 (including the final drive today)
BUT …………………Holmes is coming on strong

Revis and Cromartie
To clarify, I said Cromartie has “ARGUABLY” replaced Revis as the best..
You could argue it either way.. I personally DO NOT think Cromartie is a better overall corner. But he has been playing well.

I know what you said, its just theres Revis, then everyone else.
I do think Cromartie is really playing great though. Imagine our pass D without him, as inconsistient as it is.

best aqui
Cromartie by a hair over LT…
Imagine Kyle Wilson covering everyone with Revis out those weeks?
LT has been great however a good cover corner is like the a referee… you only hear about them when they make mistake…
quietly doing his job every game
Holmes is great too but the Jets were still winning while he was suspended.
I love Cro...
Watching him eat Moss against the Pats and the Vikes was a thing of beauty. The guy is solid.
Holmes is awesome too, but I hope we don’t forget Edwards in this Holmes lovefest. Holmes may have punched in the TD today, but Edwards cleared half the field the play before. His improvement with the drops is fantastic.
I’m just generally happy with this team as a whole. (We need something else with our RBs though.)
yup it bothered me how the Steelers kind of sandbagged the Jets by saying “o we were going to release him if the Jets didn’t take him anyway” (not a quote but pretty,much the jist of it), kind of like lets call the dumbass Jets they will give up a pick for him. But there is a flip side to that, a 5th rounder let us have holmes for a year without having to bid on him as a FA.;
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
Keep in Mind
the Steelers let Plaxico Burress go too, and he’s in jail. Holmes could be there in a couple a weeks too.

Holmes
I pointed it out after the week one game that Holmes has insane stats when it comes to yards after the catch and receptions for first downs.
It was obvious that the Suspension really hurt the chemistry between Sanchez and Holmes, but every week Holmes keeps stepping it up, and if the Jets have to choose between Holmes and Edwards, I’d keep Holmes in a heartbeat.
Edwards is good, but Holmes is everything you want in a security blanket for a young QB.
I still think Big Ben is playing like he misses having Holmes out there, no matter how many yards he’s putting up. We’ve seen it the last few weeks what Holmes can bring to the table, and dam does it look good.

The only reason the Steelers let Santonio go is that they believed (and rightly so, I think) in Mike Wallace. They like to talk about the emphasis they put on morality but the truth is, they keep the rapists they feel are not expendable. Not having Tone on the field will hurt them come playoff time. No doubt about it.
We do have a lot to be thankful for for the entire AFC North, really. Think how different this team would look without the ex-steelers, Browns and Ravens, not to mention without that Cleveland pick from last year’s draft…

I would take Kerry Rhodes over Pool any day of the week
This defense is really not getting it done. LDT isn’t the same back he was earlier either. Holmes runs away with best off season acquisition. He isn’t only making our offense better, he is making Sanchez a better and more confident QB. Cromartie has been stellar but I’ll go with Holmes.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
he is def the better player and we need a saftey second to only a pass rusher but if he was that much of a distraction I still think it was the right move.
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
I dont know because our defense hasnt been the same without him
We need a pass rusher so bad its not funny. Everybody is always on Schotty, but I think Pettitte deserves to get killed a bit. Since he took over calling the D, its been all downhill on D. I hope Rex takes it back over soon.

The performance of our defense has nothing to do with Kerry Rhodes being gone. The rest of the league catches up to you eventually, and when you bring that many guys on the blitz any team in the league is vulnerable to efficient, quick passing.

I think our defense hasnt been as effective with Pettine calling the shots
I also think Kerry is a much better player than Pool. I dont think you see Dreessen get that wide open with Kerry out there.

LDT is not the same back because the o-line is not opening up running lanes
You see by his 71 passing yards gained he still a beast in space. The Jets don’t seem to be running him outside no more. LDT is my MVP
I say Holmes over Tomlinson for 2 reasons:
1. A third-round pick for him, and second, he’s the youngest one we picked up and could be the best slot receiver in the NFL.
I thought it was a 5th rounder
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Hands down.
Holmes is winning games for us and LT, while he started great, hasn’t been as good the last few weeks as before.
Is it NFL time yet?
Did you watch todays game? LDT catch and run put that ball at the fifty, putting Sanchez the position to go deep to Braylon
Had similar plays that helped the Jets win the Detroit game. People are looking at Holmes rightfully so, but without LDT catch and runs the Jets lose both games.
Unfortunately...
People only seem to remember the scores and the work done at the last minute. (And it’s even worse as a defender because short of a pick six about the only thing anyone remembers are your mistakes.)
LT remains great, Cro has been an excellent addition and… well… Holmes is killer. (And although he’s not new this year I can’t say enough about Edwards. Holmes and Edwards make a ridiculous combo.)
Cromartie
Up to this point has been the best acquisition. We still had Greene and Edwards, but with Revis holding out and Wilson not ready to start, Cromartie was very important to have on this team.
I suspect Holmes gets open as much as he does because in part of Edwards.

I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to have Braylon on the other side but it’s actually more symbiotic than you think. Braylon has been single covered at points over the last few games because teams are shifting their focus on Santonio. Bray can be a very solid receiver but I have a feeling 4 out of 5 cbs would prefer to guard him over Santonio.
