I hate to say it, but Rex Ryan has been the sole reason for all of these interesting games...
We all know Rex is a supporter of 2 things: Defense, and Ground and Pound. But it seems like each and every week, we are pulling wins out of no where against teams who are mediocre. So my advice to Rex: Go for the JUGULAR!
This week we played the Houston Texans, a team which is horrible against the pass. Our run offense had been quite pathetic, compounded by the loss of Damien Woody. What dumbfounded me is that once we were up 23-7, we stayed with a relatively conservative game calling - offensively and defensively.
Offensively: We started to run. But it seems like we were not running to the right as we usually do. We were trying to go up the gut, or to the left - which with Wayne Hunter in at RT, who can blame us. But here is where we should have gone with some high percentage quick throws, more slants, and expose this horrible Houston secondary. If Sanchez sees single coverage, sure take some shots. This guy is not a rookie anymore. And it is imperative a youngster learns how to play with a lead instead of giving him a "red light"
Defensively: How many times is Rex going conserative. Its like we play some off - zone coverage instead of pressing and keeping the QB under some pressure. The Texans got way too many easy completions, most going for significant distances. Stick to the plan. Get them off the field. And for the love of god, limit Drew Colemans reps.
And finally: Hat off to Vernon Gholston for a QB Hurry!
