Joe McKnight Is Getting Reps at Cornerback
Rex Ryan says Joe McKnight is seeing time in practice at a new position.
I think Joe McKnight (will be fifth on the depth chart at cornerback). He’s been working that way. It probably won’t be very multiple with him out there in coverage, but we’ve taught him a couple zones and I think we even taught him some man-coverage. He’ll be alright. He’s been out there. He’s a great athlete.
..…
(He’ll play) at running back, at receiver, corner. He’s going to play some for us. I don’t expect him to play defense. I hope. That means we had some injuries. If that’s what it takes, we’ll put him out there. He’s from SC (University of Southern California), so he and Dennis (Thurman) speak the same language.
My first thought is obviously Troy Brown. It's good to teach guys new tricks in case of an emergency. McKnight's biggest future contributions will be carrying the ball, but any new tricks that add to his versatility also add to his value.

Seems like theyre just bumping up everybody due to Wilson’s concussion, and McKnight will be the emergency DB.
I remember
The article in the nytimes mag a few months ago about Rex Ryan stating that he has a unique ability to find positions for athletes. That he converted Scott from a safety to an lb and leonhard from a special teamer to a “second coach” on the field.
If he sees potential for McKnight at cb, let him work his magic. I’m excited.

I can see him being very effective as a cornerback
Imagine how tough it would be for a wideout to concentrate on catching the ball if a defensive back vomits on you during the play.
