Nick Folk's Job Not in Jeopardy

Manish Mehta tweets as much:

Tough crowd. Folk isn't going anywhere RT @MidtownMetsFan list of kickers the #jets are bringing in this wk

Nor should he. One rough week doesn't make a year.  A single bad game shouldn't erase half a season of quality kicking.

Good, I would hope we would not see a knee jerk reaction.

Robbie Gould missed a FG today also, so it does happen.

Good

Folk’s been good all season and the same people have been singing his praise all along. Tough Weather and a Tough Crowd can make anyone miss.

One bad game shouldn’t cost him his job. Do it again next week though, and all bets are off. I would think a coach like Rex, who believes in ground and pound and tough defense, would have little to no patience for a place kicker who misses chip shots after his team has been bashing people for sixty minutes.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees because he wants to win the World Series. Wait, what???

are there really that many upgrades out there? The Jets got lucky as is that Folk’s problem was more mental then any actual talent. A lot of the FA kickers out there have limited range, and Folk has kicked some boomers so far this year.

I really dont think there is an upgrade out there

Like some of the others have said, let this go down as a bad game. If next week is more of the same, might be time to at least look at a few others.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Agreed

On the plus side today, he made probably his best kickoff of the season and pinned Josh Cribbs in the back of the end zone in the first half. Everyone has bad days. Really the only one I had a problem with was the chip shot on the long drive in the 3rd, it was criminal to come away from that drive with no points

Actually, Folk’s issues being mental is what scares me the most! A physical problem can be corrected, but if a kicker’s head isn’t straight, you’ve got problems.

As far as FA kickers go, I agree that there doesn’t seem to be many with Folk’s physical skills. Although, I’d take consistency over power any day. Shayne Graham is currently with the Pats, but will probably be available once Gostkowski comes off the DL. May be worth keeping an eye on how he does. That being said, I think we give Folk a bit more time to get it together. He hasn’t lost us a game, but he has won us one. So that’s got to count for something.

The life of a kicker is so crazy. Hero one week, goat the next. Very strange way to live.

I was as pissed as the next guy, but it does happen and I would rather it happen in November than later on. Hes been pretty good this season and kickoffs he has been better than Feely which I loved very much, so lets just hope he gets it together sooner rather than later. Maybe we should score some more TD’s instead of having to try all these damn FG’s. 7-2 aint bad at all..

Bingo!

No changes at this point

Folk’s had one bad game that fortunately we were able to win. Bringing in the cavalcade of kickers can make him try harder without improving his game and the effect can be quite the opposite. I think we’ve seen the group from other teams being brought in due to injuries and I don’t think one team kept the replacement once their starter recovered form his injury.

So at this point we’re all in on Folk, and one subpar game should not send him to the gallows. It’s sometimes a mental thing as much or more so than physical.
