Just wanna comment on the fake punt...
Since I know every boring sports commentator and writer out there is going to crap on it. Had he made it (and it was really close) people would have called it a brilliant play. The execution was good and it caught the Packers off guard. It was the kind of play that will make teams in the future consider it and have to defend it. And, frankly, it was the kind of gutsy call I’d rather see fail one in a while then see the same boring special teams over and over.
I loved the call. Our D held the Packers to 3 on it. No biggie. Our offense lost that game. In that case the Special Teams was able to trust that the D would carry if they failed. However, the D and SL also depends on the offense to be able to put up more then 6 points (which is all we needed to win, the last 3 came after we failed on 4th down and left the Packers with excellent field position).
I just get sick and tired of all the criticism of crazy plays when they don’t work and the endless praise that comes when they do (Saints onside kick in the Super Bowl). If you only take chances when the circumstances are obvious for it then you’re less likely to succeed because the other team is ready. Had he made that play it would have been the toast of the town and that’s why I hate seeing criticism over it. (Of course, I’m a guy who defends the Patriots going for it on 4th against the Colts last year. It was the right call. The execution failed, but the call was proper.)
Frankly, the biggest mistake of the day, in my mind, was not going for it on forth and one to drive for a touchdown instead of what turned into a missing field goal. Our offense seemed to have rhythm for the first time and short yardage wasn’t really a problem, for Greene in particular. We wussed out when we had a chance to rally our offense and WIN rather than just try to hang around.
I agree
In fact, although I think that Weatherford’s decision might not have been best, it’s not like it cost the game. I don’t care if people say that the field goal was the winning score, because it’s not like the Jets were expecting to suck at offense.
Also, the officiating was a little ridiculous – the more I watch, the more I realize that the NFL has the strangest replay rules. Simultaneous catches are not reviewable? How the hell do you defend that? Why, because it’s a judgment call? You know what else is a judgment call? Spotting the ball on a particular yard line, yet you can challenge the spot of the ball. You can move a ball 6 inches, yet you can’t even take a look at whether or not a catch was simultaneous or not.
And everyone talks about how the rushing game wasn’t doing well, which it wasn’t…but that’s because we never broke a big gain. I felt like we got 3 or more yards on every play, but that we just got too many 3 yard carries, and that caused the ypc to be fairly low. I still think that the Packers didn’t defend against the run particularly well, and LT was SO CLOSE to breaking a couple of huge runs.
This loss is on the receivers. Period. That includes Brad Smith, who also lost a fumble just as the Jets were getting momentum. This team is still championship calibur, but all the penalties, turnovers, and dropped passes are just unsustainable.

Joint possession....
I was certain the NFL rule states that if the receiver and the defender come to the ground, both possessing the ball, that the ruling will be in favor of the receiver as a completed pass.
So how in the heck did the officials twice rule interceptions against the Jets receivers in Sunday’s game against the Packers? They clearly had possession on the ground to complete the pass play.
Can someone explain it to me?
