Why Howard Green Was Cut
Manish Metha tells us via Twitter:
DL Howard Green was 360lbs. But was cut by #Jets after he came back from bye wk 14-15lbs heavier (per Tony Siragusa).Wow. #nfl #nyj #packers
I'm sure Green had some sort of punishment coming. I can't help thinking that getting rid of him was a bit too far, though. He was a good reserve lineman, and the Jets don't really have anybody better on the roster. Green found a new team so it didn't do him that much harm.

Except it's a good indication of his motivation
Which is to say, none. If he can’t stay in relatively good shape during ONE week off, why should Rex want him around? It’s just an indication that he must not have been all that devoted to the team and what they’re trying to accomplish if he won’t even take care of himself.

He was given a chance...
The Jets said they were unhappy with his weight. He was given a chance to lose weight, but all he did was get fatter. He played no part in us losing to Green Bay; we just sucked.
I’m more amazed that he was able to gain 15 pounds in 1 week. This dude was already 360 pounds – its not like he was starving himself to make weight. Seriously what do you have to eat in 1 week to gain 15 pounds?
I had a knee injury in August that required crutches and ultimately surgery and then crutches again. I gained 7 pounds in about 2 months – but I went from working out to not being able to walk for over a month (ie. zero physical activity). In 1 weeks time – to gain double that when you are still able to walk around……that is impressive.
Maybe the next Reality TV show should be Thanksgiving with the Green’s….
I remember there being this article in Maxim (okay, not the best source, but still) about how much the average person eats in comparison to models and Football Lineman. The amount of food Lineman ate was phenomenal, and if he had the week off and didn’t do any workouts it’s easy to picture how he could have gained that much.
Even Thomas Pock can't believe someone thinks he's an NHL talent.
