In Making Room for Holmes, Jets Release Clowney
Jets are 3-1, and WR Santonio Holmes has not even taken the field yet. He will, however, this week.
As a result, some roster moves had to be made in order to make room for Holmes. As a result, WR David Clowney and WR Patrick Turner were released.
As of Monday afternoon, Holmes was not officially added to Jets' 53-man roster yet, but the move should be made soon. Jets also re-signed DT Howard Green.
Holmes was acquired from Pittsburgh Steelers back in April, and was serving a suspension after a violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

This may be about Jeff Cumberland TE and Marcus Dixon DE
There are three guys that are on the roster because of perceived potential, Joe McKnight RB, Jeff Cumberland TE and Marcus Dixon DE. The Jets cut WR David Clowney and WR Patrick Turner leaving the Jets with only four WR’s on the roster.
Since the Jets are carrying 4 TE’s and Cumberland has never been activated, Jeff should have been a logical candidate to be cut. What saves him IMO is that he is the only TE that has the skill set to replace Dustin Keller, and could double as a number 5 wideout ( played the position in college). Cumberland is a size and speed guy, as a WR there is a remote possibilty that the Jets are looking at this guy as a replacement for Edwards next year if he doesn’t sign ( I have taken all my medications).
I was very impressed with Cumberland in Cortland, but I haven’t seen Marcus Dixon play at all. The Jets have a lot of Defensive Lineman over 30 ( Pryce, Ellis, Jenkins , Pouha,Bryan Thomas ,and Jason Taylor) and Gholston may not be with us in 2011.
The Jets seem to holding on to Dixon as part of a DL youth movemant , along with MTV and Jarron Gilbert on the Practice Squad
mulligan
orange, what’s the deal with mulligan. I too was questioning why we have 4 TE’s and thought we should get rid of mulligan. Thinking 3 TE’s was my hoping to keep chauncey as our back up ground and pound RB.
mulligan and cumberland
i’m guessing theyre keeping mulligan for special teams. and cumberland i assume that they think he has a lot of potential and dont wanna leave him open to other teams by putting him on practice squad. this yr is almost like a redshirt yr for him. if they think he can be up to kellers toenails it might be worth it

Couple of things
Mulligan and Hartsock are clones, two Blocking TE’s . Give Hartsock the edge as a blocker, but Mulligan gets the edge ar a receiver. Hartsock is on the wrong side of 30, and makes good money for a blocking TE, this may be his last year in Green and White depending on the CBA. Mulligan plays all the special teams, very good blocker, is cheap, and his receiving skills become more of a factor as Sanchez begins to read his 3rd and 4th receiving option.
Mulligan made this team in OTA’s, winning the “Iron Jet Award” Mulligan and Devito are from that football powerhouse Maine, lift together like crazy and living in the weight room.
Am excited to have him in the offense finally, but maybe he won’t be?
And with all respect to Holmes, Braylon is having one hell of a year so far.
He’s catching balls, he’s getting open, and he’s been EXCELLENT blocking for guys. He’s really coming out to be that “total package” receiver we thought he could be. Good for the deep posts/vertical route TDs, good one short slants in red zone, and good at blocking.
Holmes does add another weapon to our arsenal, and he should be able to put up some great numbers here. He did have two fumbles in the preseason so hopefully he got those out of the way early and it won’t happen again. Sanchez and him seemed to have good chemistry after Jets West.

Thank god
With Holmes and Green on the roster we should be rid of David Clowney once and for all.
