Ok guys I put no because there's no other choice other then yes or no
My reason for no is Rex at times should take charge and overrule Schotty. I can’t believe the Jets threw the ball 44 times. I understand not running at the end of the half because the weather made a hand off very risky, however, there were times I could not believe the Jets were not running the ball more. After Brad Smith kickoff return the Jets had an third and three inside the twenty yard line. Incomplete pass, you have an all time great back and a young punishing back, plus a great offensive line, if you run, you keep the clock running and if you miss by one yard then you have the option to go for it on fourth and one. There are other examples, but this one stick out to me. If they run more they get that defense tired.
On a different note, you have to give Rex credit, he sticks to his guns. He kept coming with the all out blitz even though the blitz let them back in the game with big plays. Ok, I was on life support, but you got to give him credit for not backing down.
I don't agree about the playcalling
I think it was mostly great all game. The reason why Sanchez threw it 44 times is because he’s inaccurate as all hell—most of those passes wouldn’t have been needed if he was completing more and getting first downs instead of getting himself into 3rd-and-more-than-2 with all those incompletions. If you don’t complete on first down then you’re probably running it on 2nd down which puts you in a bad spot on 3rd down where you have to pass it. It’ll pump your pass attempts up in a hurry. But hell I honestly think the reason the run was so successful was because we were passing it so much. We ran a ton of play-fakes so I think the Vikings were sitting on their heels a bit longer than they normally would have on a lot of our runs. And in the end we still completely dominated the clock despite that many incompletions.
If there’s anything I could complain about Schotty’s playcalling it’s that it seemed to me that they kept dialing up the deep pass down the sideline—Sanchez must have attempted like 10 of those and completed none. Then again, most of the time it was the right read as there was single coverage a lot down the sidelines, so once again that goes on Sanchez’s inaccuracy.
The bigger complaint would be exactly on those all-out blitzes—I’m not going to give him any credit for not backing down at all. That was just completely stupid, stubborn playcalling and last year it cost us at the end of games. If you’re gonna blitz on 3rd and a mile, at least disguise the freaking thing instead of putting 7 guys all on one side at the line of scrimmage. That might have been the most easily-read blitz of Favre’s career. We could have pitched a friggin’ shut out if not for the dumb defensive playcalling at times.
I dont know
I remember a LOT of passes that hit santonio, braylon and keller in their chest or in and out of their hands. The ball was where it needed to be a lot more than you are giving sanchez credit for. I think both the dropped passes and the inaccurate throws, not to mention a very solid D from the vikings explains why we scored 5 FGs and no TDs until late in the game.
Also, unrelated, I think if Favre is down by 2 scores and starts chucking the ball up for grabs, he’ll eventally get picked or hit Moss/Harvin for a big play. That is what happened – and once he hit Moss in the endzone, it rejuvinated their O and they started moving the ball again.

I have to disagree with a lot of the offensive criticism. Sanchez was off last night. However, I think one of the main reasons we were able to put up more rushing yards against the Vikings than anyone had in over 50 games was because we were airing it out a lot. They couldn’t stack the box and they had to worry constantly about the deep ball. Sanchez is still a very young and very inexperienced QB. (Yeah, he’s not a rookie, but he had very little college play.) I’m willing to bet Monday Night + “The Favre Game” + the fact that they lost their first Monday Night game was a lot of pressure and it got to him. I happens.
Sanchez often nails one or two of those big passes. It just wasn’t his night. Some of it was our receivers though and I can pretty much guarantee, after watching Sanchez last year and this year, had he made one of them it would have improved his accuracy for the rest of the night. The kid gets hot when he makes a big play.
The blitzes, on the other hand, piss me off sometimes. It’s not that I think we should do something annoying like a “prevent” defense however, there has GOT to be some middle ground. I actually kept hoping for a few yards for the Vikings in the late game so that it’d be like 3rd and 4 or something so they’d try and run. If it was 3rd and 17 I knew they were gonna get a first down. They did almost every time. Our third down D is still weak. Why? We had some idiot CB who decided to hold out at the beginning of the reason instead of prepare to win it all. I think Rex has too much faith in our secondary.
However…
I find it hard to believe that it’s been pure luck that we’ve picked up interceptions TWICE in comeback drives. We did it against the Vikings last night and we did it again the Dolphins. It’s not luck. It’s the pressure. It WILL force a mistake eventually and when it does it will end the game.
I don’t pretend to be some football expert. I figure the coaches know the details better than I do. I also know that when our D had to switch gears against the Pats when Revis went out, we did better. Sometimes we can change it up a bit. We play a balanced offense to keep their defense honest. I think we need to balance out our D a bit more.
Again, I’m not an expert though.
I will add that the one area I thought the coaching BLEW IT was the time management prior to the two-minute warning. That was horrible.
We did win though. We made a lot of stupid mistakes, but so did the Vikings, so it evened out. I hope we tighten things up over the next few weeks. The Pats in Foxborough will be no easy game and the Steelers in Pittsburg… well… I just hope we stop shooting ourselves so much.
I agree with you on the offensive playcalling
I like that they are stretching the field and all, but in the end you can’t get too far away from your bread and butter especially in such poor conditions for passing. I also didn’t like how they often went to an empty backfield which takes away from any threat of our offense running the ball. And all the times they tried to get cute with the tiger formation and the end around reverses is frustrating to watch when we were having success just gashing them through the run.

Exactly! you are right on the money. His stubborness will cost us a game or more if they don’t change up the blitz packages. everybody has seen it and in a max protect mode they are picking it up and throwing right over the top of the blitzers or down the field.
I was less impressed this week than in the past 3 games
I couldn’t believe that we went with blitzes on every single 3rd and long in the 2nd half, even though Favre was carving us up on all of them. They converted something like 5 3rd and long plays in a row on blitz pickups, including 2 of their TDs.
I also didn’t like any of the offensive play-calling inside the red zone.
IMHO, this game was won by the players making plays in spite of the coaching, with an assist from Favre’s tendinitis flare up after making so many throws in the 2nd half.
Now that you mentioned the 3rd-and-long conversions on our defense...
That’s been happening every game this year so far. But the thing isn’t just the fact that they’re blitzing… That’s a big part of the problem of course, but also the blitzes he’s been dialing up have been some of the most obvious blitzes in the world. What the hell happened to disguising and giving the offensve different looks and whatnot?
