The Jets must have a pretty good football team because it takes quite a lot to win a game when making that many mistakes. This game should have been over in the first half. The Jets kept letting Minnesota hang around and hang around. They kept shooting themselves in the foot. Brett Favre got hot. It evoked reminders of the bitter home loss to the Falcons last year.

Then somebody stepped up and made a play, and the Jets are 4-1. Woody Johnson should be billed for any lost productivity in offices across the Tri State area tomorrow.

Celebrate the win below. A late night edition of the official recap will be up as soon as I can get it up.

Man, Jenn Sterger may have said no to Favre, but if he ever propositioned the ESPN announcers, he would score every time. That drooling over him was ridiculous. I had to turn down the volume and listen to the Jets radio broadcast down the stretch.

I was at the game, so fortunately I missed Gruden and co. They were that bad? Even with Favre’s miserable first half? He was scary when he got hot in the second half though, until Dwight Loowwerryy sealed the deal.

GOODBYE SOJ

This is the way great teams do it. It may be ugly but they always seem to find a way to win. I’m no longer thinking “Oh, here we go again the Same Old Jets.” But I’m calm and supremely confident that our team is gonna step it up when the game is on the line.

by dj_agni on Oct 12, 2010 12:47 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

Yep. Three times last year they let the other team take the ball down the field to win on the last drive. Now they’re confident and able to make the big play.

Yeah...

If he goes to hold out again, screw him. All that money so he could play wuss coverage against Baltimore (and be a major factor in the loss), go out of New England and find himself still playing catch up on game 5. And why? An injury that’s the result and sitting out during the preseason.

I hope he puts it together this week because Denver is pass happy and is no gimme game.

On the other hand, Cromartie was awesome and Wilson was even starting to show some sparks.

It’s so funny when you’re a Jets fan and have witnessed every form of bad luck that could be conceived by the human mind, how superstitious we’ve become. It seemed like we kept giving up big plays while I’m watching the game at the bar, but if I watched on a different screen we played better. So I start watching the game on a tv that’s 3 times as far away thinking it makes a difference.

Then we get a game winning interception.

The bald white dude...

I don’t know his name, but he’s the only person I didn’t want to beat down. He talked about how great the O-line was and how the game could have EASILY been a blow out had the Jets capitalized in the red zone a couple times.

by cult hero on Oct 12, 2010 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh and...

If I had to listen to one more Jon Gruden reach-around on Brett Favre I was gonna throw up.

by cult hero on Oct 12, 2010 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I thought they are suppose to be unbiased?

I mean Gruden and Co were openly rooting for Favre to get another shot with the ball. The were more happy with the 2 minute warning gaffe than the Vikings were. Never thought I would miss Dennis Miller in the booth.

by YankeesJets on Oct 12, 2010 2:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Only the really good ones are...

And they’re rare.

I hate Jon Gruden. I hate him with a passion. If he goes back to coaching, the team he coaches—whoever it is—will displace the Colts as my favorite to root against. The guy creams his pants over every franchise superstar QB out there. The thought of having to watch Gruden cover a game where two QBs like Brady, Favre or Manning are playing terrifies me.

I really wish they’d find guys with LESS personality and LESS opinion. I like my commentators cold, by the numbers and just the facts ma’am. I don’t want to feel like they’re cheering either side, even if it’s mine.

by cult hero on Oct 12, 2010 2:49 AM EDT up reply actions

I know all about Gruden, I live in Tampa, lol

You want to talk about wearing your welcome out. People hate him down here. Im the same way with broadcasters. I like the Vin Scully or Pat Sumerall type. I hate the rah rah wrestling announcer type.

You know...

I’d never thought about it, but that’s just what he sounds like… a pro-wrestling announcer. It’s pathetic.

There is no way he was averaging more than 3.3 yards a carry before his TD.

He had

1 carry in the first qtr for 3 yards,
3 carries for 7 in the 2nd qtr.
4 carries for 21 in the 3rd
and
2 carries for 26 yards and a td.

All of those yards came up the middle. Why wouldn’t you run a guy up the middle a little more when he’s gaining yardage on every attempt. He was never dropped behind the line. His worst run was a 1 yard plunge out of the wildcat.

You are by far the ultimate pessimist on these boards

He had a 5.7 yard average for the game. You want to take out his longest run, and then compare that to the others in the league. Either you’re so stubborn that you don’t want to admit you may have been wrong, or you’re just nuts.

by jetsbill on Oct 12, 2010 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions

since when does a running back get credit for always making positive yards.

He was very sluggish in the first half, and LT was dynamite.

"Sometimes it's the people. Any player can play defense, but not every player will play defense. Sometimes it's a lack of perseverance." - A. Johnson

by kv on Oct 12, 2010 2:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Why wouldn’t you run a guy up the middle a little more when he’s gaining yardage on every attempt.

a). Because you have 3 downs to get 10 yards, not to get 5 yards.
b). Because LT, your other back, was getting MORE yards.
c). Because what I said was that he had a pretty poor yards per before he got that TD (and LT would have gotten that TD just as well, as far as I can tell).

Thanks Mr. Pessimist

By the way…. 3.7 × 3 downs = 11.1 yards. The entire point of the comment thread was about throwing the ball 44 times, not taking carries away from LT. And if saying that LT would have gotten that TD too is your way of rationalizing your comments, good for you.

I seen that.

I’m surprised he threw so much. I think it was because he wasn’t having the best game he could of. One touchdown or long pass was all we needed at so many points of the game. He was letting it fly and we had chances to get those long balls. I think they kept him throwing because they knew if he found his rhythm the game would be over. We beat them with Sanchez having one of the worst games of the year. He had to slow down at some point, I’m glad it resulted in a win.

Gotta give my overall...

We played “okay” overall. This is the worst Sanchez has played since the first game and our secondary as a unit is still lackluster. Revis is a serious disappointment and will probably continue to be for a few more games. Also, the dropped balls were hurting.

Oh yes, and the clock management near the two minute warning about killed me.

Now, with that said…

Like the Dolphins game, this is the sort of game the Jets would have blown last year. They didn’t. While a lot of Favre’s mistakes saved them at the end, the Jets’ mistakes in the red zone kept this from being a slaughter so it kind of evened out.

The offensive line was killer. Cromartie deserves the game ball. I’m excited about adding Holmes to the mix. Folk is killing it. LT is unbelievable.

Sanchez wasn’t as bad as the stats suggest though and if THIS is a bad game, I’ll take it over 5 picks. The kid is coming along well. A great team isn’t a team that never makes mistakes. You’re always gonna have games like tonight. A great team is a team that pulls through anyway and that was the most impressive thing about tonight.

Way to go boys. J-E-T-S! JETS! JETS! JETS!
