Laveranues Coles not happy with Jets fans

From the New York Post:

Former Jets WR Laveranues Coles, who hasn't spoken to Cincinnati reporters all season, snapped at a group of reporters after the game, saying, " 'LC' hasn't talked all year. You think I'm going to start on Jan. 3 after (the Jets fans) booed me? I gave them seven hard years and they had the nerve to boo me?"

I liked Coles, and personally I wish we could have kept him.  He played hurt and sacrificed himself.  I didn't realize he got booed.  On a day where many former Jets were being honored, I would have cheered for him.

Think he may be more motivated to beat his old team next week after this?

I can’t believe some idiots booed him. I’d be upset too. Guy deserved a nice ovation.

Didn’t realise that he got booed to be honest, stupid that he did. Gave a lot to this team, and a lot of good memories.

Totally agree

The guy was an awesome Jet, a tough guy who gave everything he had. Those who booed him are just jackasses, and not indicative of how most Jets fans felt about him. That’s a shame.

The people who booed him have probably been fans for about a month

Totally Uncalled for

That’s a true shame. LC was a loyal asset for us for a long time. People need to check themselves and show some respect.

Aw

That sucks he was booed. I definitely would have cheered him.

I feel for him.

He made an awesome catch as well, didn’t do much else, but that was a highlight style job he did on the catch.

But he should realize

He’s on the opposite side now. Anybody on the other team is always a potential target for the boo birds.

by FrankG929 on Jan 4, 2010 7:37 PM EST reply actions

I was always a big Coles fan

but I remember being really pissed when he went to Washington. remember the Jets drafted him after he was kicked off the FSU team, he still doesn’t say where he went to college when he’s introduced in the lineups. the jets had to trade santana moss to washington to get him back.

then when the jets tried to restructure his deal after last year he went to Cinci.

I like the guy so I wouldn’t have booed, but I don’t blame anyone who did. and he’s got to have a little thicker skin since its not like he showed 100% loyalty and was shafted.

by JetsFan1991 on Jan 4, 2010 8:48 PM EST reply actions

I gotta disagree with you on some points. He played really well with the Jets the first time around, and they showed him no loyalty by letting him go.

He came back and was a stand-up guy during the losing seasons. He sacrificed a lot and helped Chad have a great season in ’06. Then the Jets showed his good friend no loyalty by replacing him with Favre.

and the home of the... JETS!!!

I totally agree

I dont think these fans owe him anything. He voluntarily left the team twice, presuming to chase big bucks. I feel like he’s done well for himself and has played for 3 teams already, so I dont mind if people dont want to cheer for him (but booing is a little much…)

Pennington is another story, I would cheer for him since he got shafted by the Jets when they traded for Favre. Actually I want them to sign Pennington as the 3rd string, move Ainge up to 2nd String and let Pennington work with both Sanchez and Ainge all offseason (if he can move his arm) to improve their games. Both Sanchez and Ainge can through a long ball, but could benefit with the short, high percentage throws.

but not only did he refer to himself in the third person, but he used a nickname…really??

Unfortunately,

when you have the last game of the season at 8:30 at night, win and you’re in, and it is freezing cold out, you are going to have people drinking heavily before and during the game. It resulted in some funny “asshole” chants, and also worked in our favor as the crowd was going nuts the whole night, Palmer and JT couldn’t hear shit, and the defense was fired up, the negative part is that good guys like Coles who put in work for us for a long time end up getting booed. It is what it is though.

sounds like his heart is still here, so he was hurt by the boos. i definitely feel bad for him. i wish he had stayed too, but i think he’s just gotta man up in this situation. i wish him the best…. just not when he’s playing us.

LC did the Jets a favor by agreeing to part ways

His best years are behind him, and he seems to be surly at times too. I always liked LC but he wasnt the same player in his second stint. I dont think he shouldve been booed but I think that some “fans” are just that way.

by YankeesJets on Jan 6, 2010 3:01 AM EST reply actions

So what

Boo’s are part of the game. I would have not booed him but suck it up. You are a pro. You would not have gave u those hard years if you were not compensated.Give us the money back and we promise to take the boo’s back.

by BIG OH!!!!! on Jan 6, 2010 6:48 PM EST reply actions

I think LC got a bad rap

People called him a diva when at his very worst he was a malcontent. Not even two years ago he was clutch as it got, and was who Pennington and Clemens relied on. It seemed like every passing third down we converted that freaking year was in Coles’ hands.

I really liked him. He wasn’t my favorite Jet and now I don’t think I’ll ever like one more than Revis. But he was so clutch in his prime. Seeing him so far the depth chart in Cinci is depressing but inevitable. I thought he would really produce for them given how well he did for us and figured double coverage on ocho (johnson?) would free up a lot of balls for him. I guess the Jets staff knew the sun was setting and made a financial decision, possibly due in part to his perceived attitude or much needed cap space for people like Vernon mother effin’ Gholston.

I think it was pretty classless for fans to boo him given what he put forward but he took it way too personally. I can smell my own, and Jets fans are dicks. He should be used to this sort of thing by now.

I didn’t mean to suggest that the departure wasn’t mutual.
