I'm Hungry
In the thoughts of Jets DT Kris Jenkins, "I'm hungry." Jets fans would say the same. Some were around in 1969 when the Jets did the improbable by upsetting the Baltimore Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III, which still stands as the greatest moment in Jets history. It's about time to create a new greatest moment.
Just like 1969, the Jets are underdogs against the Colts. We got through them once, we can get through them again. It's a daunting task, just like before. It's a star quarterback against a young quarterback, just like before. Who's to say we can't do this all over again?
The Jets will have to confuse Peyton Manning somewhat and make him feel uncomfortable. We've heard it all week. He doesn't like to move out of the pocket, but that's what the Jets specialize in: making the QB panic.
The Colts defense shouldn't be overlooked at all. There's no saying how the Colts will play the Jets running game, but we know at the very least they expect it. It will be up to Gang Greene and Thomas Jones. If the Jets can get the running game going like they do almost every week and like Week 16, then it could open some needed opportunities for Mark Sanchez.
The Jets secondary obviously will play a huge part in this game, which is why many Jets fans were frightened when we heard about the injury to Kerry Rhodes. However, most of you know that he is probable for this game, so you can thank the big man upstairs for that one. Reggie Wayne will most likely be on Revis Island for the whole game, so he can forget about paradise. The real keys are Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon and Dallas Clark. I expect Kerry Rhodes and at times some linebackers to cover Clark. But for Collie and Garcon, we just got to hope for the best there. It's a great rookie dual threat that I wish we had no part of.
Special teams will need to play a role for the Jets in this game, whether it's a good punt to pin the Colts deep, a kick return, a punt return or all of the above. Keep your eyes on Brad Smith. The Colts will try to limit him from big plays, but Smith will need some big plays on kick returns, and even in that wildcat formation that we just loved against Cincinnati.
So, it's a rematch of Super Bowl III. That was the Jets last Super Bowl win and last Super Bowl appearance. Looking at that, you can only say one thing. "I'm hungry."
