Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Two Jets Are First Team All Pro

A couple of Jets made the first team All Pro squad, and one was on the second team.

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis may have been robbed of the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award -- according to coach Rex Ryan, at least -- but he has rebounded nicely, being named to the NFL All-Pro team today along with center Nick Mangold.

Linebacker David Harris, who was a second alternate on the Pro Bowl team, was named to the second team All-Pro squad.

All-Pro honors are the highest an individual player can get because, in theory, the team is picked from both the AFC and NFC Pro Bowl squads.

It was the first All-Pro honors for both Revis and Mangold. The pair were also named Pro Bowl starters.

The Jets had plenty of standout performers this year, but this sounds about right. I don't see any significant snubs. These three were among the very best of the best.

Recognition at last!

A long time coming. Between the playoff contention and the all-star picks, maybe when we wear the jerseys it won’t be assumed they’re the Eagles!

nothing wierd about it.

Fans vote for PB selections. Most fans are idiots. Ergo PB selections make no sense sometimes.

I agree...

Harris should have made Pro Bowl. Oh well.

All-Pro selections are just as hit-and-miss as Pro Bowl selections imo

First of all, one guy who should have won pretty much outright: Antonio Gates. Dallas Clark should barely qualify as a TE, and while Gates isn’t really that great of a blocker he’s certainly at least better than Dallas Clark at it and is probably called on more to do it.

Secondly, this one might be a bit counterintuitive but Wes Welker really shouldn’t have been selected as a first teamer. Yes, he got like about a 438 catches this year and all, but he barely gets more than 10 yards per catch and moreover he works primarily out of the slot in single coverage while Moss gets doubled on the other side. Reggie Wayne or Larry Fitzgerald would have been more deserving. Second team though, absolutely without question. Nitpicking, but whatever it needs to be said.

Thirdly, oh my lord Vincent Jackson getting 2 votes is just absolutely criminal. Yeah, that’s the second Charger I mention and I just want to note that I swear I’m not a closet Chargers fan lol. I don’t dislike them, but I don’t really care about them either way. I am not their fan this week for sure. :P

Fourth, okay see this one’s anti-Charger: Nate Kaeding and even David Akers over Sebastian Janikowski? Those guys had great years, but all Janikowski did this year was just hit long field goals and drill them almost every time! If I want one guy to kick a 54 yarder against the wind for the win, who the hell are you gonna pick besides him? Also, I think Jay Feely should have gotten at least a vote. Maybe that’s me being a homer but come on that dude is probably the toughest kicker in the league. That should count for something. Also I wonder, does anyone have any numbers on tackles for kickers/punters? I’d imagine Feely would have been up near the top of that list this year.

Fifth, the OL voting in general… Ryan Clady deserved it last year, but THIS year? And what the hell, Brick got ONE vote total? Michael Oher had FOUR and the dude was like above average at best this year. And the whole right side of the Jets o-line got snubbed badly too. Last year I was always telling my friends how Brandon Moore was the most underrated lineman in the league, but I think that now you’ve gotta give that to Damien Woody. Admittedly, in the beginning of the year he was definitely the weak point of the line, but by end of the year he was… and maybe this is blasphemy… the 2nd best lineman for the Jets (I mean Mangold is just off the charts let’s be honest here). Absolutely the unsung hero of our offense imo.

If I think of anything else I’ll post here again >_>

Okay yeah lol

Elvis Dumervil… 17 sacks is a lot, and I congratulate him on that. But the dude was an absolute non-factor in the running game. In my opinion, the vote in general was a HUGE snub of LaMarr Woodley. The dude played tremendously against the pass AND the run with numbers. To me, him and DeMarcus should have been a no-brainer. But of course, I forget that people considered Dumervil an actual candidate for DPoY, which is hilarious. Of course, the major sports writers are still several steps behind true fans of the game who realize that there’s more to defense than sacks and interceptions.

This might be controversial, but Jared Allen probably shouldn’t have been a first teamer. You’ve gotta go with Freeney and Mathis there. Without those two guys the Colts defense becomes one of the worst in the league, and I’d say that even if Bob Sanders was healthy. Mathis really got the shaft in the voting there. But actually, I’m sort of forgetting Trent Cole here. Dude got 14 sacks AND is probably the best weakside DE against the run in the league. So… I’d probably go with him over Mathis, but it’s a tough choice. Allen is a beast, but this year he wasn’t much of a factor against the run. Maybe that’s because of the monsters in the middle of that d-line that ate up the runners, but you can’t give him credit for what he MIGHT have done but didn’t do. Sorry bro.

Also, an amendment to my previous post… Brick had 2 votes. Still, that’s half as many as Oher got and that bothers me. Oher definitely deserves a lot of credit, being a rookie and all and managing to be above average. But dude… when he had to play LT for a couple of games, he struggled. Brick played EVERY GAME at LT and EXCELLED. It just… like… UGHGHG! It sucks so friggin much!

Oh I forgot, another notch against Jared Allen is that he got 7 of his sacks in two games vs. one team with a really bad offensive line at the time and a QB that loves to hold on to the ball for too long. That is almost half his sacks right there. smh

by Exystence on Jan 15, 2010 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

True, but...

…he got like what 4 TDs total? And Reggie Wayne had more first downs and TDs and I think anyone in the world would rather have Wayne than Welker on their team.
