Thomas Jones Misses Practice But Will Play Sunday
Thomas Jones sat practice out Wednesday. Do not fear, though. He will be in the lineup Sunday.
Coach Rex Ryan said Jones was held out of practice Wednesday, as he has for the past few weeks, to give the NFL's third-leading rusher a break. Fullback Tony Richardson was also given the day off.
Ryan said Jones was listed on the injury report with a knee injury, but added he could've practiced fully. Ryan said Jones has a bruised knee and there are "no problems at all with him."
Having Jones in the lineup is important, but I'm not sure it's as important as many would assume. At this point, one could argue Shonn Greene has taken over the leading role in the backfield. The coaching staff has been increasing his load since the Colts game. The only time it really diminished was when he gave the Jets a reason to sit him Week 17 with a fumble against the Bengals even though a penalty wiped it out.
Truth be told, Greene is a better runner right now. His power allows him to fight through tackles better, and he has a bigger burst when he turns on the second gear. TJ has a better reputation. The Jets surely can use him. I'm just not sure he's the top dog right now.
Which of the two should the Jets lean on?

It's hard to not be impressed with how Shonn Greene ran last week (big assist to awesome play design and a dustin keller block on the long run)
It’s clear at this point, as the younger, more durable back, that Greene’s going to get the bulk of the carries. In the NFL, you almost need two productive backs, given the beating they take.

I’m guessing that Greene will be getting most of the carries. TJ carried the ball a lot this year and while he might seem ageless, he’s obviously starting to slow down… plus, Greene is far more explosive a back and against a weak run defense you’ve gotta hand it off to the big bruiser who can gash them.
Dude, TJ is a work horse. He has thee best/hardest work ethic ou of every back in the league.
They say he is a gym rat and an animal in there. Look at his arms, He’s a savage beast.
Thomas Jones runs this league
I agree. Greene should be the primary guy.
He’s more explosive and he where’s down the defense. Jones seems more of a gasher. He seems better suited for late-game carries bc he can get down hill fast and rip 5-7 before the D can react.
Start TJ, work in Greene, go with the hot hand. Also dont forget the wild tiger on first down and 2nd/3rd and short.
you stole my thunder
I think this is where coaching comes in. Get a feel for the situation, see which rb is “on” and go with what seems to be working at that particular moment.
Chuck it from the Tiger this week?
Its about that time.
the bungals were as set up as a team could be for a pass from the tiger last week considering the success the formation had six days earlier. Did we see one? of course not. We did see the same 2 plays the Jets ran the previous game for big plays, both of which were completely shut down. (option and wildcat run out of 3rd and long) I would have definitely tested those plays again but not without some wrinkles added since the bungals d likely prepped those plays all week. Further example why Schott and the Jets O isnt as good as it could or should be.
Dont agree. Rex submarined it when he squawked about it during the week.
Now the time is ripe. Might be a good time to go back to a fake punt also. Weatherford’s heart issue may have established the perfect cover; seems unexpected from a guy who might keel over over on the 50 yard line.
