Schottenheimer Rejects Buffalo's Advances
Brian Schottenheimer is reportedly turning down an offer from the Bills to interview for their head coaching job.
Even though the Jets granted the Bills permission, New York offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer declined the chance to interview for the Buffalo head coaching job this week or after the season, according to sources.
Brian has commented on how much he is enjoying himself in New York. It's a good situation for him. Rex Ryan is very hands on with the defense, which leaves him a lot of autonomy with the offense. He's a young guy and knows he'll probably have another chance. The only thing he'll leave for is probably the perfect opportunity. I guess he doesn't think that's waiting for him in Buffalo.
I'm lukewarm on Schottenheimer. However, he has done great work as of late, and it's one less distraction this week.

Glad he came out and rejected it early.
It had to be a distraction, especially for Sanchez.

I want him gone
But only if we have someone assuredly better waiting in the wings, and he’s too smart to jump ship from a place where ownership likes him so sincerely to head for such a crap team like Buffalo. He probably realizes it’s career suicide.
Your Right
Callahan possibly taking over is a scary thought.
"So basically, the Stats make no sense whatsoever."
If he develops Sanchez into a great QB that will be one more notch on his CV, he knows that we are building something special here, and he has full control of the offence, I don’t blame him for wanting to stick it out a bit.

Dam, not only did we miss a chance to improve our offense, but we missed the possibility of Buffalo getting even worse for the next few years.

Disagree.
He is very good in developing young quarterbacks. He has also called 3 great games in a row. He’s not perfect and sometimes shies away from whats going and gets cute but IMO a very solid offensive coordinator.
I want Sanchez to have him as O-Cord for at least 1 more year...him and Shonn will benifit

I hope they do become the next Oak.
Isn’t there enough competition in this division with you, us and the Patsies gouging each other’s eyes out?
It all works in cycles. The Bills will be beating you guys again soon. LOL

Improvement
He has improved since last year under Mangini’s conservative approach. Rex has let him sort of run the show on offense. It worked well the first three weeks and actually it worked in N.O. but Sanchez blew that game with bad ball security. i think during the losing strech he let Sanchez do more than he was capable of at such a early stage of his career. In the last several weeks he has found a happy median that gives him just enough passing opportunities to keep him happy and not putting him in situations to make a costly mistake. we need to keep him at least next season to help Sanchez develop.
I have a little bit of a theory
I think he doesn’t want to coach in Buffalo because he sees that he’s gonna be up against the Jets for the next X amount of years and he knows he’s not gonna get any success against them! haha
That’s actually a good point. He knows how good his offense is right now and how much better it could potentially be. And then he practices against Pettine’s best defense in the league. That might have made him think twice about going to a division rival.

I have been one (and to some extent continue to be) of Schott’s biggest critics during his time as o coord. That said, I really like how he handled this situation, and it warmed me up to him in a lot of regards. One thing I like a bunch his how he cited his working relationship with Rex as a primary reason to stick around. Schott’s still growing as a coach and having a hc that he works well with is really important. However, he still takes too long to do effective things for the offense than he should. The plays that have been effective recently (namely in the pass game) should have been run far more early and often throughout the year. Play action? Maybe a whole bunch with their run game. The simple play fake, roll out toss to keller should be run 2-3 times A GAME. How about letting B. Smith throw it once too? (especially last week v cin would have been perfect) And can you get this team that excels at run blocking and pulls well to please be able to execute a hb screen? Not having that play in our arsenal or an effective draw is huge. Also, as mentioned, he overthinks himself to hell at times.
I read in an article where he said he has checked his ego at the door and simplified things for Mark.
