Jets Rate 8th in ESPN Power Rankings
8 (16) Jets 2-0-0 Rex Ryan has blitzed his way into first place in the AFC East. Division, beware. (Clayton)
This rating system is ridiculous. It factors in preconceived notions of how good teams will be before the season. If we're rating purely what's happened on the field, I find it tough to believe there are 7 teams that have looked better than the Jets. It's just the guy who compiled this list thought those teams would be better than the Jets back before the season started.
How crazy is it that media bias like this actually helps determine the champion in college football?

Ravens top
I understand that they beat the Chargers, but how does a team that has give up 50 points in two games come out on top, and still scratching my head as to how the 1-1 Steelers are above the Saints and the Jets. Just glad that when it comes down to it, these mean absolutely nothing.

Let The Media Stay Away,Please
Do u not remember last year when the media started falling for us? We were gonna play the Giants in the SB. As soon as the media jumped on our bandwagon, the season was lost. Let them be skeptical, I dont want them jinxing us again. Let them say we are pretenders this way it motivates the team. We dont need ESPN to tell us how great our Jets are, we already know.
Well
the reason we folded last year was because Favre’s arm was injured and Jenkins lost his effectiveness at the end of the season, it had nothing to due with the media’s love affair with the team.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Um
Even the players admitted to reading the clippings and believing the hype. These rankings mean nothing, let it go.
I'm pretty sure that was the point of my comment, that this means nothing.
I have a hard time believing that had Jenkins been conditioned better and Favre being healthy, we wouldn’t have made the playoffs last year.
"We must win and we must know how to win rather than win because we have statistical people."
Just so I know...
… what does ’Do not flame." mean?

It’s utterly insane is what it is. It’s like a man being tried for DUI by a jury of alcoholics. The media claiming to be unbiased is like a lion claiming to be a vegetarian. Why do you think my LSU Tigers had to share the 2003 BCS championship with USC? Did you notice the whole 5 seconds the media spent reporting on the Trojans loss to the Huskies? If the condoms had won that game, they’d have made a miniseries out of it and leapt to #1 in the polls. I bet they’d already started engraving the BCS trophy with USC.
The Steelers above the Jets? Who are they kidding? I was stupid enough to draft Ward for my FF team. Guess how many points he’s made me so far. Same thing with Heath Miller. I dumped Miller and picked up Chansi Stuckey. Snachez is the future for your guys. If you can wangle Crabtree a deal, you’d have a great combo that would be productive for years to come.
Great job putting those Patsies in their place. I always wanted to see what Brady’s face looked like when he was losing. What a great gift! Everything I hoped it would be. LIke somebody shot his dog and crapped in his helmet. Priceless! Can’t wait for the Saints to meet them later. Expect us to return the favor. BIG TIME!

It is terrible, you are right.
Same thing with College football preseason rankings. I don’t think there is anything more meaningless in any sport then those preseason top 25 polls. All they do is screw teams that are ranked too high up to climb into the top 10 no matter what they do. Is it really too much to ask wait until week 4 or 5 before the first top 25 poll? Like you said, no preconceived notions about who is what should factor in, only the games. At least NFL power rankings don’t mean shit, they just are annoying to us because they are wildly inaccurate, but they don’t actually mean anything. I feel bad for the college teams who run the table and don’t get a BCS game because some dipshit had them ranked 83 before the season started.
