The Facts about the Matchup
1.) The Patriots failed to dominate an offensive line that started three offensive lineman who were starting their first NFL game. The defense was a few illegal formation penalties on the same left tackle from being dominated. Take away these penalties and Fred Jackson has damn near 200 yards.
2.) Before Paul Posluszny broke his arm the Bills defense was holding down the Patriots Offense. This could have been for several reasons....
a.) Tom Brady was still getting his legs under him
b.) The Pats did not reach deep into their playbook until they needed to because they may have been disguising all they could from the Jets.
c.) The Pats offensive line may be showing its age
3.) The Jets held the third most prolific offense in the league last year TO ZERO POINTS...bottled up one of the best WR's in the league in Andre Johnson.....and stopped cold one of the more talented combination backs in Steve Slaton. Reminder to those that say "It is only the Texans"....the same people that were saying that were the same people picking them as one of the teams that would make the playoffs....I really love it how the so-called experts down play everything the Jets do well and focus on distorting comments of players to their own Boston bias(YES YOU ESPN).
4.) The Starting Jets Defense has yet to hit the field all at once....The Jets get Shaun Ellis back this week and Calvin Pace back in three weeks....
5.) The Pats do hold the advantage at Coach, QB, and WR and overall big game experience
The Jets hold the advantage in OL, DL, RB, DB, LB and home field advantage
I could go into this position by position but I am writing a blog not a book.....
6.) The coaches are polar opposites in the personality department
Belichick-close to the vest, cold-blooded, calculating, white collar, efficient and corporate
Ryan-heart on his sleeve, emotional, out of the box game planning, blue collar, loyal, inspirational
7.) One opinion sneaks in.....This is one of the most interesting Pats/Jets games in recent memory
Jets 31 Pats 20 or
Pats 21 Jets 20
8.) If the Jets can keep it under two turnovers and they can get to Brady more than twice they have a damn good shot at a win.
