Jamaal Westerman has made headlines all through preseason. The undrafted rookie is a lock to make the team. The Star-Ledger did a profile of him yesterday with some telling comments from the staff.
With Vernon Gholston not exactly lighting the world on fire in the preseason, Westerman has emerged as a valuable piece to the defensive puzzle.
"He's going to be a big part of our sub package -- third down stuff," Pettine said. "That's the one thing he has a knack for: He can rush the passer. He's got a special talent that way."
Take this to mean it's possible Gholston is on a short leash. He'll be starting for Calvin Pace in Houston, but the Jets have Westerman to start taking his snaps if Vernon doesn't produce.
