Jerod Mayo Has Sprained MCL
Patriots second year linebacker Jerod Mayo has a sprained MCL.
One source said Mayo is expected to be out 6-8 weeks with the Grade 3 MCL sprain, but the other source said the timetable is "not that bad’’ and the 2008 Defensive Rookie of the Year could return sooner.
He'll definitely miss Sunday's game, though. Tough break for the Pats. Their game plan is likely to key on stopping the run and forcing Mark Sanchez to win the game. They lose one of the game's emerging stars at a position they don't have a large amount of depth.
I'm not going to say this is good news for the Jets. I'd rather face an opponent at full strength. It takes some of the fun out of winning and adds extra sting to the loss if they're shorthanded. With that said, life just got a whole lot easier on the offensive line and Tony Richardson. Mayo is a stud.

Something tells me...
the pats fans weren’t getting teary-eyed over the fact that Calvin Pace wasnt going to be around this weekend and how that could potentially make a victory against the Jets less significant.
Injuries and depth are part of football. I hate it when our team has injuries but you can’t “what-if” the last five games of last season with a healthy Favre.. that’s not football.. What makes football football is that injuries and suspensions and disgruntled players and the like are common to each team and how they handle that adversity and play as a unit with interchangable pieces makes the sport wonderful.
Some teams may get luckier than others this year, but I have a feeling that over time injuries and other distractions are pretty normalized from team to team… and if it isn’t, well then it may come down to drafting upstanding people, strength and conditioning, building great protection for your QB and RBs (ie a solid O line), or whatever, which again, is all part of the game.
