New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens Game Thread

New York Jets at Baltimore Ravens, Aug 24, 2009 8:00 PM EDT

Not that preseason really matters, but it would be nice if the Jets could at least hold their own against an elite defense on national television.

The most important thing really is the makeshift offensive line keeping Mark Sanchez in one piece. We'll see what the rookie is made of tonight.

Leave thoughts in the comments section.

Lowery’s been great in run support so far.

14-0 but the defense hasn’t looked terrible. One touchdown on a pick six. The other was the result of a Coleman-Mason matchup the Jets would never have in a regular season game.

I am loving Leon Washington right now. Good blocks being thrown by the OL right now

Definitely

The offensive line is controlling the trenches in the run game.

Worth noting Eli Manning had a 0 QB rating against Baltimore as a rookie.

I’m very encouraged by the pressure they’re getting to Flacco on the blitzes.

Leon Washington is the real bright spot

I’m pretty depressed by Sanchez’s outing though. Was hoping he’d be able to wrap this thing up tonight. Clemens isn’t dead yet.

So far overall

I am cautiously optimistic. While Sanchez is definitly looking unpolished, there’s been a lot to like overall

Glaring indictment of Mangini he only got one offensive touch in the Seattle game last year.

it really is

think about how ridiculous that is, to not even get him a single touch.

Finally a nice toss by sanchez

I’d have to think that throw wraps up the starting job.

really?

i thought this mediocre performance tonight reopened the door for Clemens.

by Charles Haley on Aug 24, 2009 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I do

I think for Clemens to have a shot, Sanchez had to totally fall on his face. The way he hung tough and finally hit that big pass is something I think the staff will like.

i think he's too fragile

no need to shatter the kid right off the bat… Clemens, by virtue of Sanchez not running away with it, has earned the job

by Charles Haley on Aug 24, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed, that was inexcusable

Very ugly early but he put together a nice touchdown drive his last series. Beautiful throw to Washington for a score.

considering our receivers, we might be seeing that combo a lot

by Doghnut on Aug 24, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

On third and long he checked down and flipped it to Leon who broke a big run. I really liked that. He didn’t force a ball down the field. He just gave his playmaker a chance to make a play.

He’s so much better than Kornheiser. I love Tony on PTI, but he said some really stupid stuff.

i always thought the jaws-vermeil combo was good

by Doghnut on Aug 24, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. I like Vermeil also.

It helps that they were a player-coach combo and knew each other for so long. A lot of it comes down to chemistry in the booth.

yep

it’s not terribly difficult to find people who know the game (well, maybe not as well as Jaws, but well enough) but knowing each other is something that only comes with time.

Tho the current booth seems to be doing well and they havent been working together all that long…

by Doghnut on Aug 24, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Chemistry is something you can’t manufacture, and it seems like these three have it.
