Jets in Toronto
My son and I would like to thank John B and Gang Green Nation for the tickets to the Jets/Bills game. I don't think I can introduce anything new to what has already been written about the game, other than to say that to be at the game and watch Clemens masquerading as an NFL quarterback was something ugly to behold. Backups of lesser experience are many times called upon to fill in for an injured starter, such as Dennis Dixon of the Steelers, who had attempted one pass prior to playing against the Ravens game last week, and he looked light-years ahead of Clemens.
The on-field underperforming Jet of the night was Kerry Rhodes, who looked like he was afraid to get hit. Sit him down. Otherwise the team looked solid but as pointed out, left a lot of points out there in the first half. Not much chance of doing that in the second half without an NFL quarterback playing. Sanchez looked like Montana in comparison to KC.
John B was right about it being quiet. The place was full and apparently you couldn't get a scalped ticket after the game started but there were a lot of people that were there to just see what the big deal is about the NFL.
That's not to say that a lot of Bills fans made the drive up north and there was a good representation of Jets fans. There were lots of Jets jerseys representing many different eras. I loved the Al Toon jersey but couldn't get over how tough you have to be to wear the Vernon Gholston jersey. At one point I noticed how quiet it was, and thought that it was certainly an advantage for the Jets to play inside in December, and not have to contend with crowd noise the way they will have to in Indianapolis in a few weeks.
There was one larger corporate tailgating party sponsored by good folks at Bud. It had Madden competitions, football drills, bands, food and cheerleaders. Most Jets fans that I saw were visiting the bars and restaurants in the area, of which there were plenty.
More than a few big fights broke out in the 4th quarter throughout the Rogers Center. In Buffalo they don't serve beer after half-time but in Toronto, you could get beer well into the second half, which might have fueled the fighting, or It might have been the $10 for the watered-down draft that caused the fighting.
All in all, a great day for my son to go to his first game and see the Jets get a win. We had some great fans around us who helped my son with his J-E-T-S chant. I did have to get him to tone it down late in the fourth when it stopped being cute for some Bills die-hards. I can't blame them - it has to be tough to be a Bills fan these days.
Thanks again. It was awesome and we'll be going to camp next year.

Awesome!
Thanks for the recap!
Good to hear you guys had a great time, and happy GGN could make it happen.
Gotta start young being a ganggreen fan, so hope he enjoyed his first jets game! Things like that, we never forget.
Game will be even more memorable for him being that the jets got the win (something I never get to see at the meadowlands- lol).

You guys realize Clemens threw two times right?
Yeah, he looked shaky, but that’s what happens when you are too scared to let the backup QB just run the offense, and you start trying to protect him. Schotty sucks, he really does. Does anybody else notice that when the Jets run vertical pass plays they work? I’m not talking about 50 yards down the field, but 10-15 yard plays, 3-5 step drops, rhythm plays… they work! To Keller, to Cotchery, to Edwards, the problem comes when they run these short pass plays with 3 or 4 WR’s bunched up in a 10 yard chunk of field. Sanchez can make the throws down the field, he struggles more with the throws when the Jets are trying to protect him. If you have these guys as your QB’s, just let them play.
I feel very strongly that if Clemens was allowed to run the offense, throw down the field a bit he would have looked much better. Also, what was up with Rex Ryan seemingly purposely wasting a timeout on a horrendous challenge? The Jets coaching staff, mostly on offense, just seems totally clueless.

Calm down, man. The point of this post was to share his experience of the game in Toronto, which he and his son attended. We at GGN are happy Gus had some time to get his thoughts down and share them with us.
Appreciate your thoughts, but if you want to rip into someone or rant, please direct it towards John, David, or myself, and we’ll be happy to respond. Thanks!

Um, I wasn't ripping anybody in particular, hence, the "You guys".
It has been a common theme for people to rip Clemens the last 24 hours. Yeah, he looked bad, he also threw 2 passes, all his drop backs were max coverage with like 1 route being ran. This was Schotty, far more then Clemens. Run a normal offense instead of “protecting” the guy, and he looks far better.
By the way, I’m not allowed to rant about the offensie coordinator on a Jets centered blog? I have to direct it towards you? You make it sound like I am making fun of the author of the post. Did I disagree with his thoughts on Clemens and use them as a segway into my post? Sure, but it’s not like it’s personal.

Don't agree
The reason he only threw 2 passes was he took 3 sacks. He looked frozen when he dropped back.

I remember my father begging me to pick the Giants and avoid making the mistake he did back when I was like 8.

I started watching football on tv in 1991, unbeknownst to me the Giants had won the Superbowl the year before. I didn’t have a team until my dad took me to a game.
Couldn’t get Giants tickets in 1991, but Jets were available…
