Jets Open as a Large Favorite for Next Week's Game

When you control your own playoff destiny at home in your first Sunday Night Football game on NBC --- in the final game to be played in your stadium, against a team that is mediocre on the road who has already locked up and clinched their division...... do you have a large advantage in that game?

Las Vegas thinks so, as oddsmakers have opened the Jets as a Nine-Point Favorite (-9) for Sunday Night's game.

We don't usually do stories like this, but in week 17, the opening line is a great indication of a team's intentions going into a game. It is clear, from the opening line, that Cincinatti will be resting players. Unfortunately, being seven days away, we have no idea who will be sitting yet.

"I know one thing, rest does wonders," Bengals running back Cedric Benson said. "Sleep is like magic."

Yeah I was shocked the number was so high also. Expected 6.5-7, considering that we’re 1-4 at home since October.
That being said, it looks as if we’re turning things around.

The Jets have only been more than a TD favorite once this year, and it was against Buffalo in the game they lost in OT. They were 9.5 point favorites in that game. Let’s hope Sunday’s game has a happier ending….

Bengals missing their middle linebacker

Run like hell down the middle with our two big backs and shake it up with a woodhead screen then cotch at the edges and a crossing pattern to dustin, finally fade to Braylon in the corner. OVER N OVER again. Playoffs, maybe the pats and January is fun again.

No they aren't.

Dahni Jones is our MLB. Malaluga is our outside backer and will be replaced by Jeanty who is a veteran and pretty good. We are deep there with good players. Do you guys really feel good about backing into the playoffs like this? I know you should be happy about getting there by any means neccessary but curb your enthusiasm a bit. Your D is great but your O is only OK even with your running attack. I do like Sanchez and he will probably be a very good one. A little, just a little humility and appreciation of these final 2 weeks of gifts would probably be in order. BTW we know Edwards very well and well….he doe not scare us. We have a prety good D too and and when we fire on all cylinders a better O. You will probably see that in the first round of the playoffs if I understand things correctly. Looking forward to it.

you do have a point

I for one, and this may or may not be the only one who thinks this but I do believe that the 6 best teams in each conference should make the playoffs. Yesterdays game left a bad taste in my mouth. I am also hoping we get the best of the Bengals as a win there would prove that we are one of the best 6.

However what do you guys have to play for? There is a strong possibility that we will not get the best you have to offer.

So what should we do, be like Marlon Brando and refuse the Oscar? Should we write a letter to Goodell and say “you know what, we really don’t deserve it. Give it to the next team”? We play against whoever is in front of us.

No Toga, you just stay humble and .......

tell people that you have a lot to prove and intend to do it. Then go out and root like hell for your team. It is just the chest beating from some that irks me. You are getting a pass into the playoffs. It isn’t your fault but you you have to understand that if you are one and done it will not look good. BTW you probably will have a chance to get the best of the Bengals here in Cincy in the first round. I expect it to be a very tough game BTW.

Yeah I thought the number would be banged down as well, but if we see good ol JT O’Sullivan in for Palmer, with all the injuries the bengals have on D… that might keep it where it is.

Speaking of rest...

Rey Maualuga is done for the year after breaking his ankle in yesterday’s game. Think the Bengals won’t be cautious after that? Also, Carson Palmer and Cedric Benson are banged up, too, aren’t they?

Yup, rey rey is done for the year now.

Have heard carson has had a nagging sprained wrist injury since week 4-ish, and he can no longer hand the ball off w/ his primary hand. Would be shocked if they didnt rest him.

Also Benson has been such a workhorse for them this year, maybe theyd want to give him a rest also since hes had that nagging hip injury over the last two months or so. He’s taken a LOT of carries this year and its gotta take a toll. Apparently he was pulled in yesterday’s game due to injury, but then later returned and torched the chiefs.

On defense Crocker and Peko will both probably sit, and on top of that, like you said, Rey Rey.

Carson is fine. He has had that injury for 7 weeks with no impact.

He hands off fine with his right hand – no problem. Benson is fine too but probably will see limited action as a precaution. LJ will fill in just fine. Crocker and Peko could play but probably won’t. No need.

Benson will probably take a few snaps. Then it will be LJ and Scott

with a little Leonard thrown in. Don’t under estimate Leonard. He is a football player in more than name only.

That’s weird. I have a friend thats a huge bengals fan and said he sprained his wrist in week four and has been having trouble with handoffs sporadically all season. Guess he was wrong.

I have watched every game Carson has played.......

and I don’t recall a missed or insecure handoff. It doesn’t seem to be a problem. In fact I think it kinda helps his disguise on play action passes a bit.

A lot of Bengals pundits and fans here are saying that this is a favorable match up for the Bengals. I don’t think so. We have a very good D, even with the injuries but you have a great D. Our running attack is very good but you may have a better one with our only advantage being that we have 3 RBs that can all take it to the house which means we can keep them fresher and we have Leonard who, like I said, is a real football player who gets the tough 3rd downs with unbelievable regularity.

Both of our O and D lines, when Peko gets back, are pretty well as wash. The only real advantage I thing the one we have is Carson Palmer. I know his stats are down but he is a real leader and in a crunch can play as well as anyone. Our passing game can go from pedestrian to great in a heartbeat. Nobody here can explain it. One series he can look like Brady Quinn and the next series he can look like Dan Marino. Sanchez is a guy who appears to be a natural leader. I really like the guy and I think he is a winner. Next year I expect big things from him if you can improve your receiver corps a bit. Our WRs are very good and Chad really is about as good as it gets. Many DBs we have played against this year have said that he is the best they have faced. Revis should be able to contain him about half the time but as I said that should be the feature match up. Who ever is better that game will win that battle.

I don’t know your team as well as most others as we don’t get to see you much. If you think I have some misconception please point it out. I am here to talk football – not smack. Playing in the AFCN I hear enough of that “Bungle” stuff from trolling arrogant Steeler and Raven fans. Hell we beat them both twice and they say it was luck and the refs gave us the game. Beating them once could be luck but twice means we are better.

Jets are being given a gift.

Due to our HATRED of the Steelers, we will take a rest, and have you guys boot them from the playoffs.

Myself I would rather go to Indy as the 4 seed and play a rusty Colts team with 2 1/2 week layoff, then to go back to SD and play a team who is as hot as they are now.
