Goat
And I don't mean greatest of all time. There's plenty of blame to go around in this loss. Nobody deserves more than the kicker. Realistic Playoff dreams died today. The game would have never been in doubt had Jay Feely done his job.
You know what else? This team doesn't deserve to go to the Playoffs. A Playoff team doesn't keep having losses like this. This has been the story of the season. Another opportunity to win squandered.
And now a trip to Indianapolis comes. Wonderful.
Try and make sense of this below. The official recap will be up later.

We were pretty much given a gift wrapped opportunity today, should of been out of sight but a combination of stupid penalties, obviously Feely and Sanchez have killed us. Absolutely ridiculous really.

Fuck this shit
seriously, so incredibly disappointing.
I swear, the Ravens had better get the wild card. Thankfully Miami lost but if they somehow manage to get it I think I will give up on football forever

That’s what makes it even worse, Jaguars lost, Miami lost and now if the Ravens lose (Although they are up by 7 early) it will be such a wasted opportunity

I can't blame Westoff.
He didn’t drop a snap. He didn’t miss a kick that was under 40 yards. He didn’t have multiple high snaps or kick it high enough. Too many opportunities. Defense once again can’t get a stop when it really counts. Revis played a great game but he could of iced it with an int. Agree totally with John B. playoff teams don’t make these mistakes. Honestly, we would need a full out miracle to make the playoffs now. Division race is officially over now.

How many games have we lost on the final drive this year?
Even being a jets fan, this shit is so F*cking disheartening.
- defense in the NFL, yet we cant get a stop when we really need it.
Granted, the defense was phenomenal today until the last drive and its the special teams that killed us. But another game lost on the final drive nonetheless. One play away…

That's bullshit
You can’t blame the defense for this loss at all. They were bound to give up points eventually, it just came at the worst time. They gave up ten points all game, this “when it counts” is bullshit, the offense should have scored more than ten all day.

Ask any defensive guy, what the most important time for a stop is
If this was baseball, the Jets defense is more like Brad Lidge in the ninth than Mo Rivera. Both have had nice careers but Lidge is garbage under pressure, just like our Jets d with the game on the line. The Falcons became Albert Pujols on that last drive.
by YankeesJets on Dec 20, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That baseball analogy is worthless in your argument.
In baseball where the numbers in clutch situation are clearly defined and you’ll see that almost any player you look at has similar numbers in clutch situations as they do in low pressure situations. For instance, Mariano isn’t better under pressure than Lidge, he his just better. Even Jeter who is famous for coming through in the clutch isn’t any better in those situations, he is the same, which just happens to be excellent. For instance, his career OPS in the regular season is .847, in the postseason .863 and with RISP is .832. The difference between those numbers is negligible. Despite the popular belief clutch is not a repeatable skill, in any sport.
The inevitable happened at the worst time for the Jets so it seems bad. If they had given up the touchdown in the 3rd quarter, no one would be saying anything right now. The Falcons called the right play and found a hole in the zone, it happens and it’s not the defense’s fault it happened on the last drive.

Okay the Jets D was Mo 2001 Game 7
Mo is the best but he like the Jets D today, blew the game. You can take all your stats and put them in the garbage. Number 1 ranked defense forgets to cover the best TE off all time, and they knew before hand thats where the ball was going. That is inexcusable. Lets end all this great defense talk, look at who they have beat of late, terrible teams. Stop drinking the kool aid, this d has cost us 3 games now. Great D’s dont cost you 3 games in a season.

Feely yes
But arguably we would have won if Clemens was not on the roster.
I think while we have a complete team, trade rhodes and gholston for a player or draft package. Jettison all of our QB’s and get a vet like Leftwich and a lower round draft prospect. Let them battle it out because their worst will more than likely be better than this. I know it’s fast but Sanchez is NOT the guy for us, but I believe Rex is. Use high round picks to draft defense defense and more defense! Use the altered salary cap atmosphere to sign whatever big name in free agency, and you have a superbowl team.
We don’t even need a good QB with this team. We need one that makes smart decisions and doesn’t turn it over.
I am not jumping the gun. This team is so talented and it’s stupid to waste any more time on these quarterbacks. don’t even finish the year with Feely on the roster, cut him loose.

Best 58 minute defense in football
The Jets define why stats mean nothing. #1 ranked defense? What a joke. They cant get to QBs and they never create TOs or score off of them. Can Revis or any otther defender catch anything. All world or not, Revis drops picks almost every game.

Even Rex said it was bad snaps and holds. I was cursing Feely at first but it really wasnt his fault. You want to place blame, how about the defense. I dont care how great they played, how do u leave TG wide open? The worst part is they knew the ball was going to TG, and they let him win the game. Yeah what a special D. When your QB is immobile via two knee braces, Schotty is kind of limited in what plays he can call. Of course ATL was going to stack the box, but he had to call a conservative gameplan.

Schotty was the biggest problem
When will he learn that Sanchez is not Drew Brees or Philip Rivers yet? Why does he continue to go away from what has been the winning formula, run, run, and more run? If he stayed with the run, u control the clock, tire their D, and keep our d fresh. Instead he keeps unleashing Sanchez, who is actually learning nothing. Double coverage Mark? Really? Jets need a traffic cop, seems Mark blew threw a bunch of red lights today. Maybe he should Yield to someone else.
by YankeesJets on Dec 20, 2009 5:19 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Got to admit that I’m getting a little frustrated with Mark’s obvious lack of learning. Their are interceptions and then their are INTERCEPTIONS, the latter are the ones floated into double coverage that he continues to put up. Heard so much about his football intelligence coming out of USC but have really not seen it this year.

Agree definitely.
This defense is built on heart. This defense is built on guys that play hard, and have great mental toughness. That’s why theyre the #1 defense in the NFL.
But when I see Rhodes try to tackle by doing his usual “side-nudge” or whatever you want to call it, and not wrapping guys up, it makes me want to puke. He really does shy away from contact. It’s sad when your safety, the glue who holds your last line of defense together, is as soft as play-dough. Just look at this comparison. Look at how hard leonhard plays, and how much ground he covers, and look at RHODES. What a joke
Both Rhodes and Gholston are so f*cking soft its disgusting. We dont need guys like that on our defensive unit. Ship them to clev and let eric deal with them.

I’m one of Rhodes biggest critics, but he played an alright game today, he had a poor coverage on White where he didn’t look for the ball at all, that went for 10+ and he missed a tackle on a run, but other than that he was solid and actually made some plays. Didn’t play great but he was as solid.

You hold a team to 10 points, you should win. Unbelievable. How many times did we start near midfield? Believe me I’m no NFL coach but I could even predict the Jets would try to run up the middle on first down. Sick.

is just what the media says so they seem relevant. If they gave up a touchdown in the second quarter, and made a stop on the last drive, they’d have still lost.

Now I know why they didnt cover the greatest TE ever. They thought to themselves, “we already played a great game, why should we make a stop with the game on the line?” Whether they missed 500 FGs and Sanchez threw a 1000 ints, the Jets gave the Defense a lead, and they failed…AGAIN. Win as a team, lose as a team
Yes, the defense broke down on the last drive (again). But the offense turned the ball over, and the special teams blew the FG tries. Some of those things work, we’re up by more than a score and the last TD becomes irrelevant.
