Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets Game Thread

Atlanta Falcons at New York Jets, Dec 20, 2009 1:00 PM EST

And a happy Sunday to those of you like me who awoke to around a foot of snow in the local area. Hope you got your shoveling done early. Once again our heroes take the field looking to keep their hopes alive. A win guarantees a .500 season at worst, which is nothing to laugh at with a rookie head coach and quarterback. Our hopes run a little higher at this point, though.

Can’t wait for this game, really hoping for a good performance. Chauncey Washington and David Clowney both inactive for today’s game.

I thought I read somewhere that they have to keep Chauncey active for three games, for some reason. O-welles.

Falcons' fan here

The beginning of this season was so promising to both teams, but things turned sour very soon. Your team is somewhat similar to the 2008 Falcons – relying on power running game, with rookie QB and head coach. The difference is D, obviously.
I’m sure the Jets are heavily favored today, with all this #1 defense, no Ryan-no Turner, and bad weather talk. I think it will be a close game nevertheless and the kickers and punters will decide a lot.
Good luck, but hope we win and make a decisive step toward getting this big monkey off of our shoulders. We win by 3

Absolutely, best of luck and I think it will be a close one, but can see us coming out with a 20-17 type scoreline. Will see which Sanchez turns up

Moscow? Wow

Are you originally from there?

actually, originally - from Uzbekistan

which may sound even more surprising. I live in Moscow at the moment, but went to business school in Atlanta -so there are the roots of being a Falcons’ fan.
returning to the game – I am amazed by how true my prediction was, we won by 3. but you guys should’ve done much better this year with your defense! you gave up only one big play – that TD pass on 4th and goal. Maybe Sanchez grows up or you find a better kicker like we did not long ago – Jason Elam cost us several games…

First botched FG shouldn't have happened

3rd and goal from the two, your defense has snuffed them on all bu the INT drive. Go for it on 4th down. If you don’t make it you still back them up to around the 1-3 yard line. They go for it and don’t make it, I say they’d get a safety out of it.

Rex should be pissed for a number of reasons on that play.

Have to burn a TO. Didn’t slide.

I'd like to think we're fine at QB

He’s been a rookie. I’m accepting that. I’m counting on him playing better next season.

But the Jets have a bitch of a time scoring. New OC? Add a WR? Something.

Feely had only one miss on his shoulders.

by bm01bath on Dec 20, 2009 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

agree -

can’t blame kicker for the block and botched hold

the one FG Feely missed was 38 yards in a bad wind and was close

"Atlanta came out strong"?

They played terrible. We should have won by 10. Get a clue.

In all honesty we don’t deserve to be in the post season, way too inconsistent

Sanchez is a pick machine, can’t protect him anymore. Anyone wish we had Pennington

This game and the other two have been unbearable

I honestly wish we had lost all of them by 30. In each case, I would have gotten to enjoy my Sunday instead of sitting here feeling nauseous.

This is a bold statement:

But we need to jettison all our QB’s in the offseason. Keep Ainge if you have to retain somebody. This is a complete team short maybe a more solid slot receiver, a kicker, and a QB.

by Bro Namath on Dec 20, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions

picked off by the Tians, Tenn is deep in Miami territory.

Now we only need like 7 teams to lose next week

by Bro Namath on Dec 20, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

And Baltimore still to lose this week.

by FrankG929 on Dec 20, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

Yup, just makes it sting worse.

You are right in that we have the makings of a great team. Not calling for anyones head by any means. I still like Feely. I would be happy though if we could ship kerry rhodes and gholston in the offseason.

But still cant shake off how this season his gone….. what a rollercoaster ride. A bad one.

Great!!! At least if Bal losses we still have a chance but we don’t derseve to be in the Playoff

Great defensive game by both teams

Ryan should make sure Jones runs more and Sanchez passes less

Only difference was Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez did his thing with a clutch TD on 4th down

True it was a bitter way to end the game.

Jets D played great all day

Without Jenkins Jet D has had one great year

Even in this loss only gave up 10 points

Got to figure TG or White would get one TD at some point

Poor offense and special teams play was the weak point in this game

by WarWolf on Dec 20, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

"Poor" would be a severe understatement describing our special teams play.

(aside from Brad Smith returns) 0-4 field-goals is unacceptable
