Warm-Weather Sanchez Will Wear Wool in Helmet Sunday
On Sunday, Sanchez will be playing in his first game with a temperature below 40 degrees. The So-Cal boy's previous low was at home against Buffalo when the temperature was 44 degrees -- a game in which he threw five interceptions.
To help cope with the weather, he will be wearing a customized helmet which contains wool embedded into its padding. This soft material is very similar to the "Ugg" boots that women wear.
"We put some of the UGG boot stuff in his helmet, so he’s going to be warmer," Rex Ryan said, referring to the wool-lined footwear. "I’m not kidding. Look at his helmet. He’s got some of that in there. We try to make sure our guys are comfortable and healthy and protected."
Now they've thought of everything!

I’m sure some people will have a few snide comments about this, but whatever makes him feel more comfortable. Sure it’s not easy coming from California to play in conditions like the ones he will face on Sunday,

Haha, You’re probably right. We look at it as intuitive, they’ll spin it off as"soft" or that we’re pampering him.
Wont be reading the Pats’ blogs for the next couple of days — thats for sure. If they say anything, just ask them about Pat the Patriot and his sexcapades lol…. that oughta shut them up.

lol Well the league created a whole new rule to protect and make their QB more comfortable, if this is pampering, they will have to come up with a new word for the way Brady’s is coddled.

From Dennis Waszak (AP):
Sanchez not alone with wool-stuffed helmets. Other guys include BThomas, Pouha, Dearth, all other QBs and kickers, too.

Sissy...
C’mon this is football. Its meant to be played in bad conditions. Its a man’s sport. I can’t get on board with this. Uggs stuff in his helmet?? Are u freaking kidding me? Hand warmers are OK, gotta maintain a grip on the rock. All these guys with Uggs hats should go play field hockey.

Come on man, let’s not get into all this macho hyperbole, wanting to stay warm and comfortable so you can produce to your highest level doesn’t mean your a sissy, dude could wear high heels for all I care as long as it improves his game and helps the Jets win.

People are gonna say whatever they want, but none of that is gonna matter if we come out with a W. And especially if a couple of other contenders drop off, people won’t be talking about ugg helmets when they speak of the Jets.

What’s the difference between keeping your hands warm and keeping your head warm?

U keep ur hands warm so the ball doesn't get slick...
U keep ur head warm if ur apt to have dramatic mood swings at certain times of the month.

Quarterbacks have to play as much with their head as they do their hands ;-)

I played football from the age of 7 until I was 21...
I played on Long Island and up in Albany. Never once did my head get cold. EVER. I’ve never heard anyone complain about their head being cold.
Anyone thats played football knows that the ball gets slick when its cold outside. Anyone thats ever played football knows its tougher to throw and catch in the cold than it is in warmer weather. Your fingers stiffen and, again, the ball gets slick.
Anyone that lines their helmet with Uggs material is a sissy. And anyone who fails to see the distinction between keeping ones hands warm vs keeping ones head warm obviously has questionable intelligence.

The only person who has questionable intelligence is the one calling a athlete a ‘sissy’ for not being macho enough and putting his comfort before the image of being ‘tough’, will take a tough performance over the appearance of toughness any day of the week.
I agree with Fly, I think that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Agreed.
Crackback is just a big tough guy, I bet he doesn’t play with a helmet at all…Screw the cold weather, all the players should just go out and play in shorts and T-shirts unless they’re a bunch of sissys, right Crack?

I don't think any sport is meant to play in bad conditions.
Regardless, who cares if its “tough” we should want our quarterback to be as comfortable as possible.

It could be a little bit of a mind game with the Falcons, too. “Gee, it’s cold out here in the elements. I wish we had uggs in our helmets, too.” And now they’re dropping footballs and missing tackles.
