Mark Sanchez's Status Up in the Air
Mark Sanchez will hit the practice field Wednesday. How he performs will help determine whether he will start.
Sanchez will return to practice Wednesday, Rex Ryan said late today in a conference call with reporters. Ryan, perhaps engaging in a little gamesmanship, wouldn't say if Sanchez will start Sunday against the Falcons. He said he wants to see Sanchez in practice before making a decision. Ryan hopes to have Sanchez and Kellen Clemens split the reps on Wednesday.
I tend to think the only way Sanchez isn't on the field is if there's a real risk of him injuring himself worse. After what we saw out of Kellen Clemens the past two games, an unhealthy Sanchez gives the Jets a better shot of winning.
What do you think the criteria should be to decide the starter?

As long as he can plant and move around the pocket then we have him. I think Ryan is just protecting against a aggravation, Sanchez said he could practise last Thursday, I think it’s 98% likely that Sanchez is the starter this week.

I agree. As long as he can plant and drive off that knee, he should play.
But, if there’s even a modicum of a possibility of re-injury or even the slightest of limps, let Clemens start. I think they are basically the same QB right now anyway. There a greater potential upside of Sanchez making plays, but there is also a greater potential of turnovers. With Clemens, the chilli is a little bland but u know what ur getting; no turnovers.
Whether Ryan and Turner play is going to be a major determining factor. If those guys play, i say definitely go with Sanchez. If not, Im comfortable with Clemens; let White go out on Revis island and lets see their backup QB make plays with Gonzalez bracketed by Harris underneath and Leonard over top.

We'll play more conservative if Sanchez doesn't start
Whether you think that’s a good thing is up to you.

Against a team like Tampa Bay absolutely, against a team that can force you to throw a lot, no thanks. Will take the turnover possibility, play making ability of Sanchez for this one.
