Jets Flight Connections 121109

Rich Cimini writes that FS Kerry Rhodes "admitted that he yelled at Thurman" yesterday.

Kerry says it was not an altercation.

HC Rex Ryan won't commit to who will start at free safety on Sunday.

Rhodes thinks it will be him.

DC Mike Pettine says it all depends on Tampa's offense.

LB Larry to the Izzo goes to the IR.  (I like saying "Larry to the Izzo.")

CB Darrelle Revis is constantly in touch with Sean Gilbert, Deion Sanders, Broncos CB Ty Law and DB Coach Dennis Thurman, who keep reminding him that he can still get better.  Scary, ain't it?

It's amazing to think that Darrelle is fourth in the ProBowl votes so far this year.  Fourth.  Revis Island is fourth.  He trails Champ Bailey, Nnamdi Asomugha and Antonio Cromartie.  Oh, and that's only in the AFC.  Take the whole league, and he goes lower than that.

As for RBs, Thomas Jones is not even in the top three.  You can also vote for him as the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.  You only have a few hours left, so hurry up and do it.  *UPDATE:  The poll is now closed.*

More connections after the jump.

Star-divide

Filip Bondy says that sitting QB Mark Sanchez is a good thing.

The Sanchize is just too damn competitive for his own good.

OC Brian Schottenheimer says that because they were leading against Buffalo, they were being conservative with QB Kellen Clemens.

He's been a patient back-up, and a Jets win would be good for Clemens.

Kellen will be ready.

RG Brandon Moore knows the game plan is to run, and OL Coach Bill Callahan shows some love for the underrated lineman.

The Buccaneers will have to deal with the Jets' strong rushing offense.

The Buccaneers will have to deal with the Jets' complicated defense.

Former Jet SS Victor Green now works for the Bucs.

Former Buc Warrick Dunn gives back to Tampa Bay.

Former Jets HC Eric Mangini keeps doing good for New York.  The world champs have been taken down a peg.  A whole peg.

Patriots LB Adalius Thomas is not so happy with his head coach.

We did make Dolphins QB Chad Henne look like Dan Marino, didn't we?

Who the heck is Aaron Maybin?

We shouldn't look ahead yet, I know, but is there a chance we won't be playing against Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux?

And lastly, the Jets playoff push is codenamed "Mission: Impossible":

and the home of the... JETS!!!

gonna be honest

i dont think tj is a very good player

What?!!!!!!!!!

He’s flashy, Ok. Doesn’t rip off the highlight gallops, I’ll give you that. All he does is finish near the top of the league year in and year out. He just produces on a consistent basis. He never fumbles, never gets injured, and goes out and gets yards. And if you don’t honor him, he slashes you to death.

Give me a Thomas Jones or a Curtis Martin, you can keep your Frank Gores and Adrian Petersons.

please

tell me you did not say that thomas jones is A) comparable to curtis martin or B) better than adrian peterson. by the way, yards is a meaningless statistic if you have a lot of carries

by enron4515 on Dec 11, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

i agree

i think thomas jones is IN THE SAME VAIN as C.Mart. that’s not to say there is a comparison – there is none. but i watch TJ run up the middle, get an ugly 5 yards. run to the right, get an ugly 6 yards, run to the left, ugly 4. never really breaking an 70 yarder off; or snapping someone’s ankles a la AP when he runs; not running over ppl like big boy Jacobs. just plowing ahead, getting his yardage, and going back to the huddle. in that way yes, he is in the mold of mr. martin.

and yards aren’t meaningless, but yards per carry are the more telling stat. Anything over 4 per is good, 5 great. he averages 4.5, so i think he’s doing quite well, and not getting the love he deserves from Jets fans who are still mad about that 1 TD season.

Thomas Jones and Curtis Martin are comparable...

They are/were both guys who consistently produced, never got injured, and never fumbled. And i will a guy like Jones over an AP. Yeah AP cracks off a couple jaw-dropping runs a year. But at the end of the year, Jones’ stats are comparable, and he does it year in year out. And Jones will continue to. He uses his line and takes what the defense gives him. He’ll be workmanlike, whereas guys like AP thrive to be spectacular. Guys like AP have 2-3 good years. Guys like Jones have 5-6.

No.

Adrian Peterson is a complete back. Only one weakness is fumbling. Gains more yards after contact then Jones. more explosive. can get to the edge. and a better reciever. TJ is great. But AP is better. and he’s played 3 seasons worst season was 1300 yds? DAMN

by Jerrad p on Dec 12, 2009 12:17 AM EST up reply actions

Thomas Jones got 1000 yards...

in 2007!!!

Come on. Who was on the O-line that year? Adrian Clark. Will Montgomery. Jacob Gender Bender.

That’s a major accomplishment right there. And then he keeps doing it year after year.

and the home of the... JETS!!!

There’s some middle ground to this debate. He’s not better than Curtis Martin or Adrian Peterson, but I’m not sure how you can say he’s not a good player. Look at his production the past two seasons.

TJ is great.

But he is no Martin. Probably a peg below. Im appalled Revis is 4th Cromartie is still living off his 10 ints 2 years ago. I didn’t expect Jones to be in the top 3? Benson, Drew, Johnson and then TJ.
