Kerry Rhodes To Be Benched
Jay Glazer moments ago twittered that after talking to Jets players today, it is understood that Kerry Rhodes will be benched in favour of Eric Smith this weekend to play the Panthers.
If this is indeed true, then it comes as no surprise. Rex said that he wanted a defence that was ready to intimidate, ready to make people fear lacing up. Rhodes replies with getting run over by Maroney and Welker.
If your not making plays, your coverage is sketchy and your getting run over by slot wide receivers, it's probably time for you to take a seat on the pine and let someone else do their thing.
I have never been a fan of Eric Smith, but if anything, he can knock someone into next week. Let's give him a chance to show what he can do, and I personally think that the defence will be better for this move.
Maybe, just maybe. This is the wake up call that Kerry requires, he has been absent from Twitter all week, I have not seen or heard him on any radio show or TV spots.
Rhodes has been a non factor for two years, last year many, myself included thought that it was Mangini's system, obviously that's not the case. He talks a good game but unfortunately that's where his contribution ends. He said he would be a playmaker this year, and he has yet to do anything.
Last week it was reported that on their off day 40 odd Jets players turned up at the facility, I would be very interested to know if Rhodes was one of them, If I were a betting man, I would guess not.

Good
I havent heard his name in a game in weeks. Maybe this will wake him up a little.
I like Eric Smith, Hes a hard hitter and worker, talent level isnt there but but a pretty good replacement none the less.

Agreed
Eric Smith is nothing special, but then neither is Rhodes. I’m glad that Rex is doing something about a established player who seems to be taking his place for granted. Maybe this is the wake up call that ‘Hollywood’ needs.

I like it, however...
This move will force him to take Mark out of a game if he’s really stinking it up again. Otherwise he will lose credibility with his team.

I think most will recognise the difference
between a player with years of experience playing badly and not putting in the time and commitment, and a rookie who is first in at the facility, last out and is struggling. I really don’t think this move effects the way we handle Sanchez this year

I like that
Hes takin his spot for granted. He probably, in his own mind thinks Smith is shit and his job is going nowhere. In the offseason id trade him for a DE.

Agreed
A former scout of the Ravens tweeted the other day that he knows Rex and he knows the players that Rex wants and players that annoy Rex, and Rhodes ticks all the boxes. He also said he wouldn’t be surprised if he was moved this off-season, so it seems your idea might well happen

Can't afford to move him
I think there would be way TOO much dead money if we cut him or trade him… I’ll have to check the salary caps page.

12.6 million if cut apparently
Cap saving in total of $7.6 million….umm now this is a tricky situation.

I know, he must have been laughing
15 catches and a smack on the mouth.
He just owned the secondary.

Saw Him Yesterday on TV
On one of those shows on SNY. I don’t remember what he was talking about, but he was saying something about exploring his carreer possibilities after football and what he has interest in and he said (not these exact words) that he’s really in a catch 22 because if he didn’t put effort into something for after football, then people would think he’s stupid. I think that explanation is pretty stupid. I don’t see Kris Jenkins or Shaun Ellis who are further into their carreers and thus closer to their “post-football” carreers publicly positioning themselves for anything else.

I think that says just about everything
That right there is why he has fallen off so much, he has too much planning for post football going on. Not enough focus on his career and it will be a short one. Everything that is wrong with him.

I like Eric's physicality
Want to see if his coverage skills have improved though. Was never impressed with that area of his game

It's a very basic mistake
Nearly every coordinator makes the same mistake when they become head coaches, you would think they would of learned by now that they have to divide their time more equally.

Mr. Media
Kerry is everywhere it seems. Lockerblogger.com, commercials, movies… Maybe Ryan is trying to set an example. I enjoy Kerry’s antics, but he’s gotta make some plays for sure

Saw hat he created a Lockerblogger
I don’t think it is possible to do as much as he does and stay fully committed to football. The football season is not the baseball one, you get a lot of time off for football, do all your stuff then, between July and January just focus on the football side.
