Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

R.I.P. 2009

I hate to give up on the season, but today's loss probably finishes off any realistic hopes of making the Playoffs. The Jets are 3 back of the Pats with 6 to play (and a game and a tiebreaker behind Miami). Even winning out guarantees nothing. Based on what we've seen lately, there's not much indication that's a realistic scenario anyway.

All season long, we've complained that the Jets lost because they failed to execute in one phase of the game. Not today. They were totally outplayed in all phases (except maybe special teams). The Pats came out with a lot of intensity. The Jets did not. You have to like the fight Gang Green showed in the second half, but that's not much of a victory to take away.

The official recap will be up in a bit.

I saw the game

It was televised here in Hungary once again. I felt soory for the Jets.
I thought they can do a Colts-ish comeback on 24-14. I’m sad they can’t.
I hope the Jets will find the way how they played on the first 3 weeks; and can play winning football!

I would rather they didnt win anymore

Might as well get better draft position, they were never going to make the playoffs anyway. This team needs some winning ballplayers, cause they dont have many right now.

Rex needs to make his vision reality

""I’ve got a vision for our football team, and I want to be a team that you have to strap it up to play against. I know we are capable of having that kind of team, a physical football team, and clearly the last two weeks that [emotion] hasn’t been there when we came out of the gate. That’s been disappointing."

Your starting safety getting run over by Maroney and Welker doesn’t quite fit into that vision.

Just keep throwing Sanchez out there, we’d be sure to get a great draft spot.

Who do we send out there then? Clemens? Ainge? O’Connell?

Do you really think any of these guys is starter material?

Clemens had his chance

And if we don’t want our #2 out there, why even consider #3 and 4?
We rolled the dice with Sanchez, and we’ll just have to hope he learns.

totally agree. it’s not like we have a veteran lying around to put in so we can clinch the playoff berth. we’re not going to clinch a playoff berth regardless. this team is totally invested in Sanchez, there is no backup plan. He will get 3 years. So we better hope by the end of that time he looks like a QB, not Jamarcus.

I really like him, but we knew there would be lots of bumps in the road. He’ll be ok, just bear with it.

by JetsFan1991 on Nov 22, 2009 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

Totally disagree...

He can’t be above the team. Bench him if he’s stinking it up. It doesnt do him or the team any good if he’s not held accountable.

If Thomas Jones fumbled 5x, would u stand for it? How about 5 drops in a game for Cotchery, Keller or Edwards? How about 5 sacks in game by Ferguson?

We wouldn’t tolerate this bad a performance from anyone else, so why does Sanchez get a pass? He’s lost how many games now all by himself?

One or two picks — ok
3 picks — red alert
4 or more — adios amigos.

by Crackback on Nov 22, 2009 11:14 PM EST up reply actions

Disagree

Maybe keeping him out there is hurting the team right now, but what do we have to play for now. Taking him out would hurt the team long term, he needs to learn on the job, and like Rex said, he is the starting QB and you need to be playing to advance. He is making mistakes, it happens, give him time. Again what hurts us now may well benefit us in the future.

I’m willing to take the hits now for the plain sailing later on

agree

Hate to say we are already looking towards next year, but well we are looking at next year. Is Clemens or ainge in anyone’s plans for next year. I hope not. Sanchez is our QB so let him play. Get all those rookie mistakes out of the way now.

by Togaman7 on Nov 23, 2009 10:17 AM EST up reply actions

He's killing team morale...

There are 52 other guys out there who prepare all week and play mistake-free. They would be yanked if they played half as bad as Mark.

There has to be a limit. Yeah some mistakes happen for a rookie QB, but u can’t let him continually lose games for the other 52 guys that do everything right.

He has to know that he’s accountable to the team. If he stinks it up, he sits down.

U can’t continually throw picks like the one deep in our own territory. U can’t keep missing wide open receivers. U have to do ur job. If u can’t then somebody else will be given the opportunity.

It does him no good to be allowed to keep making the same mistakes over and over without being held accountable. Its about carrots and sticks. He needs to be whacked with a stick.

by Crackback on Nov 23, 2009 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

Play mistake free?

Sanchez didn’t whiff on the tackle on Ginn, and Sanchez didn’t get run over by Welker yesterday. let’s not start the he is the only problem with this team type talk. There are a ton of reasons why we are sitting at 4-6, it’s not just Sanchez.

Sitting him could permanently damage his confidence and the long term prospects for this team, and what for? to beat the Bills to 4th and get a draft pick lower all while stalling the development of a QB. It would be ridiculously short sighted to sit a guy.

By this account, Rhodes has to sit as well, he is not doing his job, missing tackles left right and centre. Izzo needs to be taken off the team, Edwards needs to be dropped for dropping passes, he dropped the 2 point conversion, fumbled against the Jags and dropped at least one yesterday.

There are a number of players not really doing their job out their, so let’s not pump it all on Sanchez.

seriously dude

We are all hurtin, but let’s not jump overboard. If we really had 52 players playing mistake free football we would be undefeated. Not even the Saints or colts can say they have 51 out of 52 players playing “mistake-free” football. There is a lot of blame to go around, and it ain’t just on the kid.

by Togaman7 on Nov 23, 2009 2:25 PM EST up reply actions

5 TUNROVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody dropped 5 passes, nobody got runover 5 times, nobody gave up 5 sacks, nobody got burbed for 5 TDs…

Im not advocating benching him for the season. But if he’s having a horribly bad day, then he needs to take a seat.

He should be on a 3 turnover limit, then he sits down.

Btw, nobody else made a mistake that gave the Pats 6 pts. That was Sanchez all by himself.

by Crackback on Nov 23, 2009 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

so ...

let’s say he throws two picks. Now instead of concentrating on what he is suppose to do, he is only thinking “I throw one more I get the hook”. Simple question but do you think that is effective for a quaterback? Just a question, not wanting to start anything here.

by Togaman7 on Nov 23, 2009 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yes it is effective...

Its better than “it doesnt matter how many picks i throw or games i lose i’m still gonna be the qb.”

Do u think it bodes well for his psyche to leave him in to throw 4 picks and lose a fumble? Having to go home after knowing that there is no way his team couldve won with all of his turnovers?

3 is more than enough. Obviously u take circumstances into consideration (like tipped balls, broken routes, etc.)

But the pick 6 followed by the rolling left and throwing it up for grabs pick would’ve been enough, in my opinion, to give him the Yank yesterday.

Yes he should start every game, but he should be held accountable like everybody else is. He gets some room to grow and make mistakes, but he needs to be held accountable too. He’s a big boy playin in the big league now.

Thomas Jones wouldn’t be left in for 5 fumbles.
B. Edwards wouldn’t be left in for 5 drops.
No d-back would be left in after getting burned for 5 TDs.
No O-lineman would be left in after giving up 5 sacks.

by Crackback on Nov 23, 2009 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

Cant believe it

Season gone. 5 games.

We start out so good! 3-0 and play tough New Orleans team. Its ok to lose,I assure myself. Drew Brees, Darren Sharper, Jeremy Shockey, Marques Colston, all very good players up against a rookie QB. We lose. Its ok.

Then we lose to the Dolphins in a game I quite literally cried my eyes out. Watching Kerry Rhodes make that tackle with like 6 seconds left gave me hope, and then Ricky Williams stole it. OK, Fine, Dolphins are not good team but the Raiders win sometimes too. Then lose to Bills, I am losing faith in this team.

Then DESTROY the Raiders. I am still the same, The Raiders are horrible, we beat a bad team, this is not important. Then lose to Dolphins again. Season over then. Then lose to Jaguars. Even the toughest of fans know its over now. Now we lose to the Patriots, if you still had hope, Well, The Jets took it, peed on it and stamped on it.

Nothing now. Not with losing to Dolphins 2x,Bills 1x and Patriots 1×.

If we won all the games we should have won, and still lost to the Pats today, We are 9-2 and still in first in the division.

(The Saints loss was acceptable. Sanchez showing he is a rookie.)

by david1 on Nov 22, 2009 10:03 PM EST reply actions

I Can!

After that 3-0 start, I am not surprised only for the fact how FAST they collapsed! The Pass game is awful and that is killing everything. Our D is strong couple of tweeks and Kris Jenkins coming back will be a plus next year! Mark Sanchez does nothing for that offense. They just do not produce enough runs to win. Not to mention playing comeback all the time. We are done. Now I can just miss the games and go on with my sundays!!! Oh well R.I.P 2009!!!!!

by OneShoT on Nov 22, 2009 11:28 PM EST up reply actions

Look at the games they lost

Besides buffalo (which was on Sanchez) and today (team loss)…. it was the defense/ST that blew games and couldn’t make a play when they really needed to. When the offense needed to come up big in the 4Q, they did.

MIA (defense not being able to get a stop late)
MIA 2 (Ted ginn nightmare)
Jax (defense not being able to get a stop after not allowing a first down all half)

If the defense that Tanny built comes up big, we’re 7-3 right now.
It’s unfair to expect big things from Sanchez in his first year. Not every rookie is a flacco or a Ryan.

Fireman Ed is the man!

by Matt Birch on Nov 22, 2009 11:37 PM EST up reply actions

The Jets will be better as Sanchez grows

That is, providing they decide to stick with this core. He’s shown flashes of being a solid quarterback and I have liked what I’ve seen from year one of the Rex Ryan era as a whole. I still think this team has a bright future.

2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: 11-5?
2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks: 57-25

by Grady90 on Nov 22, 2009 11:49 PM EST reply actions

Starting 3-0 Was The Worst Thing To Happen To This Team

They were picked to be a last place team with between 6 and 8 wins going into the season, and that was with a healthy Washington and Jenkins, and without Braylon Edwards. Once they had a hot start, everybody is thinking playoffs. The Broncos and Ravens were awesome too, now they probably wont make the playoffs either. Sanchez has been really bad at times, but I also watched both Mannings as rookies and hall of famers like Aikman and Young struggle early on too. Playing Clemens or any other backup is not going to change anything, the Jets are what they are. The Jets will be better next year.

On the Jets Stinking, general Jetsters talk, and On QBs....

OK. Mangidiot is gone. Brian Shotintheheadenheimer is still there mucking up the works. The Jetsters are still the Jetsters (Jetsters, get it?) Hmmmmm…. And last year at this time the big Jetsters scapegoat was about to become? Who? Trivia question for all you True Green Jetsters out there!! Ummmmm…the Jets fans began to pile onto him EXACTLY one year ago this upcoming football week…. (see answer at the end). Soooooo…. Hmmmm….. Chad Pennington….Kellen Clemens….Brett Favre…..Mark Sanchize…..WHO is looking like the Franchise QB out of those four names now? Hahahahahahahahah…SAME OLD JETS!!!!!!! The ONLY Franchise QB there EVER will be out of those four is FAVRE—the GREATEST QB of ALL-TIME!!! The Jets are a terrible organization and always will be. And it is not even the fault of Ryan or Sanchez. BUT, I LOVE seeing Brett Favre go to the Super Bowl this year and get an MVP and his second ring in three Super Bowls while the Jets embarass themselves weekly—and all those Jets fans that TRASHED and lied about a HURT Favre playing for Mangidiot and Shotintheheadenheimer can cry in their watered down over-priced beers watching….. Hahahahahahahaha…how sweet it is for Favre fans, Viking fans, and even PACKER fans!!!!!!! Read it and WEEP!

Grady90--the Dallas Cowboys???

The DALLAS Cowboys??!!! The team that just BARELY beat the powerhouse Washington Redskins by a Yankee game score— 7 – 6 THOSE Cowboys? The Cowboys that just LOST (and got SHUT DOWN SOLIDLY by) to the Green Bay Packers a week ago? Those Cowboys? The Cowboys that some think will lose to the Oakland Raiders on Thanksgiving? THOSE Cowboys, Grady?? PLEEEEEASSSSEEEE. Wait until the Cowboys play the Vikings or Saints (and the ONLY reason the Cowboys will ever get that far is because they have the Giants and Eagles and Redskins in their division!!!!!!!! Ha!

Cute comments, FlyNYJBoy...but no facts to back it up, boy.

You have a ton of posts, FlyBoy, but only one fact did you mention so far. Boy, come up with some specifics please—if you are capable. The only FACT you have mentioned is that Sanchez lost 4 games single-handedly. Where are your facts? I have FACTS in my posts that you have not countered—so YOU fail, Flyboy. Have fun watching Brett and Adrian in the playoffs and the Super Bowl while the NYJBoys are long gone and wondering why they have Mark Sanchize and Kellen Clemens instead of a McDonald’s Franchize. NYJ quarterbacks make Chadly Penningtwit look like a MONSTER—when injured every week Penningtwit was actually a pathetic excuse for a pro-football player. Watch Brett and learn!

No one gets it

But I’ll just have to wait until next season when hopefully the front office realizes Sanchez isn’t going to cut it. I know rookie QBs make a lot of mistakes but look at the picks he throws, most aren’t bad reads or decisions, they don’t have enough zip to get to the reciever before the defender does, and that says a lot because for him to succeed they’ll have to change the offense to dink and dunk to make up for the lack of arm strength. This is the NFL were not just some, but all the players are fast and strong and the window these guys have to throw in is small andif the ball doesn’t get to a guy in a hurry it’s going to be picked off plain and simple. I know Mark will get better at reading defenses and he’ll play smarter by throwing the ball away instead of just heaving it downfield but how much better is he going to be is anyones guess and I may be negative but I expect to see some improvement but I end up seeing the exact same thing everytime this team is down by more than 7 points, and what I see is sandlot, backyard style of play and unless I see improvement I can’t get behind him even though at the start of a game I do try. Like someone else said, 1 or 2 picks is expected, 3 picks we all know he’s a rookie but 4 or 5 and is unacceptable and most of those picks are on him, not deflected passes or a bad route or anything like that, it’s lack of arm strength trying to go more than 10 yards.

by smalljaw on Nov 23, 2009 9:27 AM EST reply actions

Also

In the past games, Mark has been lucky where he throws it right to the defender and they just couldn’t grab it.
Yesterday, it was against New England, and they held on to them.
