Braylon Edwards Pleads Not Guilty to Assault
Braylon Edwards has pleaded not guilty to the assault charge he faces.
Edwards was arraigned in Cleveland Municipal Court on Tuesday. The 26-year-old was traded to the New York Jets two days after he was accused of punching a friend of NBA star LeBron James on Oct. 5.
James called Edwards' actions "childish."
Edwards waived his right to a speedy trial and was scheduled for a Dec. 12 court hearing. His attorney hasn't returned a request for comment.
I'd be surprised if there was any fallout from the league this year, but like the Shaun Ellis situation of 2008, stay tuned over the offseason depending on how this plays out.

learning from last year
if the jets end up definitively out of the playoff race – which frankly seems pretty imminent at this point – would it make sense for the Jets to suspend him for a few games?
last year they didn’t suspend Ellis so the league did at the beginning of this year. if they could preempt that…
(yes i know he’s a free agent, but if i were a betting man I say he’s back next year)

hmmm
i think it would look bad for management to suspend him for something he did somewhere else before the trade, especially with tannenbaum saying they looked into the situation with the police and with the league.
and the home of the... JETS!!!

fair point
but i think it would be worse if he got suspended at the beginning of next year when this team has a fresh start and a year under sanchez’s belt.
